If you don't go down the surgical route how do you stop your face from drooping ?

Some people age like their Mums - me - I get to look like my Dad !! Consequently, my jowls are droopy and my neck is really scraggy.

DH hates that I want surgery to fix this. It's not that I'm that vain, it's just the face in the mirror doesn't match what's in my head and it's depressing when I'm getting ready to go out and I'm dressed up and made up I still don't look like me. The idea of fillers frightens me - so what do I do ? I know the grown up thing to do is rise above it and not be so shallow, but I'm just not ready to look like an old hag yet.

Any advice ?

Stop thinking that old woman = hag.
Change your thinking and not your face.

Timefortea99 · 21/07/2017 22:06

Smile a lot

namechange20050 · 22/07/2017 08:27

How old are yo op?

HappyGirlNow · 22/07/2017 09:01

Filler lifts the face, cheek filler and filler in chin/mouth area will help jowls.

YoureNotASausage · 22/07/2017 09:02

Try stopping time. Ad no, sorry you don't like it but I think you should try to find a way to make peace with yourself rather than being miserable about it.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/07/2017 09:03

CACI.

Floisme · 22/07/2017 09:31

You may find a temporary fix through some procedure or other but ageing isn't just one symptom and your face is never going to stop changing. Zap those jowls and before you know it there will be something else driving you even more crazy. I choose clothes and a good hairdresser over needles and scalpels, much more fun:

Longer hair drags my face down. Chin length is the worst. When it's short, you notice my cheekbones rather than my jawline.

I don't wear earrings, polo necks or high necks. Scarves are only for when it's cold. They don't hide my neck or my jawline - they just draw attention to them. I believe in hiding in plain view.

And then something to draw the eye up and distract from that area. I love glasses for this. At some later point I may take a hat - all those ladies in the 30s and 40s knew what they were doing.

I know it was meant light heartededly but please don't call yourself and, by extension, other women 'old hags'. Not cool.

dudsville · 22/07/2017 10:12

Or embrace the term hag as our was described in the book Women Who Run With The Wolves.

IrritatedUser1960 · 22/07/2017 10:16

You can't, I'm 55 and I'm having a facelift next year because I'm beginning to look like a bassett hound Grin
I'm not doing it for a man, I'm permanently single, I'm doing it for me because it will make me happy.
I'm all for a nip and tuck if it makes me feel good.

QuiteChic · 22/07/2017 10:57

You all make sense !

Bizarre as it may sound, I don't see 'old' as being 'hag' (and I don't think I've ever described anyone else other myself as a hag - there's a self esteem issue if ever you saw one ! ), and does it make sense that it's not about age so much, because I'm embracing the grey and the lines around my eyes and I've made peace with body, it's just this excess skin round my mouth makes me look sad and grumpy and I'm not and I do smile alot and laugh out loud (even if I'm on my own !!)

I tried CACI about 8 years ago (I'm 55 btw), I can't say I noticed any difference then. I think I was hoping that you had all found some miracle cream to lift and separate !

I'm so glad Courtney Cox has reversed all her fillers, she looks like herself again. She has said she will accept the inevitable drooping now.. Her face getting older is far more beautiful than an unrecogniseable alien looking hollywood droid.

I think you can be chilled about ageing and still find some aspects of it distressing. I don't really care about wrinkles and I can laugh about jowls and sagginess but now I'm hitting hair loss and that's a real bastard.

Truckingalong · 22/07/2017 14:14

There is no miracle cream. It's Botox, fillers and surgery (or acceptance of course). Tiny amounts of fillers and Botox by a skilled doctor makes a world of difference.

akkakk · 22/07/2017 14:17

walk around on your head for half the day Grin

I use these guys - they're amazing at what they do. You can follow them on Instagram and their work is the best in the business.

There is a review in the beauty bit of The Times magazine today about a facial machine that is apparently pretty amazing. Boosts collagen and some such. Was flicking through it while at a cafe this morning so can't remember what it was called but do remember that it was £240.

HappenstanceMarmite · 22/07/2017 16:38

That's easy when you look like her to start with though! She doesn't have droopy anything

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/07/2017 16:40

I read that review too. Would be too good to be true though.

HattiesBackpack · 22/07/2017 16:45

Stop assessing your worth by how you look?

Accept that ageing is inevitable- and hey what's the alternative to aging ?
Know which I would rather do!

buggerthebotox · 22/07/2017 17:14

Yes, ageing is inevitable but some aspects are more distressing than others. I think flo upthread mentioned thinning hair. That's really tricky - not sure how you'd deal with that one!

I feel slightly better about my jowls - I really think weight training has helped me tone up in that area. Must be all the grimacing!

However having lost a bit of weight I now have saggy, wrinkly skin on my arms.

Yes, you zap one bit and then another one comes to the attention. Like painting the bloody Forth Bridge.....

Floisme · 22/07/2017 17:32

If the thinning hair gets really bad, I will get my head shaved. I've already told my hairdresser! I'm not there yet and hopefully won't be for a few years yet - if at all - but just having a plan makes me feel better about it.

HarryBiscuit · 22/07/2017 17:56

Am I the only one who thinks that woman looks better in the before picture of thAt Consulting Clinic picture? Confused

Ohyesiam · 22/07/2017 18:07

Tried face yoga, a bit nothing. Tried Carolyn's Facial Fitness, and people stated asking if I'd been on holiday , why I looked do will etc. 15 mins a day, results on a few weeks, and nobody knows I do it. Except you lot.

A brow, Jowl or face lift is the only way to completely remove droop. Face or neck lipo may make a difference.

For any of the younger posters, I read a book by Joan Collins decades ago and have always done facial exercises daily on her recommendation and the gurning really does help! It also helps to maintain a healthy weight as fluctuating weight may cause your face to droop later on.

Stay slim, always wear a sunscreen, use make up with SPF if possible, avoid going out Innuit sun between 11-2, moisturise and avoid stress!

Stress aged me terribly during a nasty break up with my last ex but I'm now recovered and you can see the difference in my face.

I've stopped having botox and and just use lotions and potions.
