Your best cleansing balms

I've used Clinique and loved it but at £23 it seems a rip off - though did last 6 months.
I currently just use micellar water but don't think it really removes all make up - prefer to use it after another cleanser.
I like the friction of using a wet facecloth as it's a great exfoliator.

Looked in Waitrose today and saw they do their own for around £5 or they had Balance Me at 20% off. £16 for 125 mls.

The thing I like about the Clinique is it melts on your skin whereas Liz Earle rubbish pongs, is thick and a bugger to remove. Hate it.

I think I remember reading somewhere that you can save money on your cleanser because it doesn't stay on your skin for long, but to splash out on your moisturiser.

Clearly this depends on your skin type, but I find that this is true for me.

Do remember that often M&S have 20% off beauty a few times a year and Emma Hardie products are included. If your local store does not stock you can always get it delivered to them.

I don't work for M&S but I do get their 20% off vouchers every few months!

PollyPerky · 11/07/2017 17:37

Ok J Lewis has 10% off Clinique today so I've ordered the Clinique TTDO.
It's not too pricy though I am a believer in 'any old cleanser is fine' as long as it does the job. I'm not looking for a cleanser that's special, just gets rid of make up (I use sunblock under foundation and full slap- powder and blusher, eye make up etc, daily.)

I am happy with micellar water for a quick clean but find I need 3-4 cotton pads before they come clean.

With TTDO I find the flannel does the job really well and remove eye make up too.

Interesting to see other suggestions though.

I love no7 hot cloth cleanser £10 for removing make up and generally use at night, in morning i use temple spa cleanser that lasts 4 months for £20. Normally get the no7 on offer at fiver with voucher and stock up, tends to last a month to 6 weeks

allthingslipsticks · 11/07/2017 20:13

Neal's Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm is pretty good.

OCSockOrphanage · 11/07/2017 20:17

I have had a couple of free samples of the DHC oil cleanser (Escentual are pushing), and used it travelling at weekends, but have not bought a bottle to try long term, although my initial reaction was to like it. Probably next time, though I have the Merumaya equivalent and it works, but am not keen on the smell.

MakingMerry · 11/07/2017 20:23

I use also the body shop chamomile balm. It's nominally £10, but the website has constant offers - it's £6 at the moment.

MamehaSan · 11/07/2017 20:52

Can I ask a question about cleasinig balms? I had a sample of the Clinique TTDO a while ago but I wasn't really sure how I was supposed to use it. I was using it like I would my usual foaming cleanser (blob on fingers, lather onto damp face, rinse). It didn't seem to rinse of properly, though. Are you supposed to use a flannel / muslin with it to take it off? I ended up using a foaming cleanser afterwards as my face didn't feel "clean".

LeannePerrins · 11/07/2017 21:06

mameha massage into dry skin, wet a flannel with warm water, remove. Definitely needs a cloth of some description.

PollyPerky · 11/07/2017 21:12

mameha I apply with fingertips- you only need a tiny amount and massage in lightly. Then I soak the clean flannel in hot water and press it against my face (using 2 hands), then start rubbing gently one cheek then the other, then the rest of my face. Rinse the flannel out and wipe over again.

I love TTDO, and really love Emma Hardie, but am quite impressed with the Aldi one, I find it very similar to Liz Earle. I like to have a few on the go depending on what my skin feels like.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 11/07/2017 21:20

I'm with @TheBitterBoy on the M&S Pure one. Love it.

JulesJules · 14/07/2017 06:56

I love the EH. Had a tiny pot in the beauty advent calendar box and bought the big pot with 20% off at M&S, nowhere near finished yet over 6 months later, so it does last for ages.

maggiso · 15/07/2017 16:11

I also love the EH Moringa balm (also got a small pot in an advent calendar)- but it is too expensive for regular twice a day use so I keep it for my when I have time for a longer soak in the bath- and use it more like a facemask. I love the Ren rose hot cloth cleanser - also a bit expensive except on offer but am mostly using the M+S formula hyaluronic acid hot cloth cleanser which is £11 for 200ml (£8.80 when 20% off as happens from time to time ). I rarely wear makeup (as I have sensitive skin) and if I do its not a lot so I cannot comment on how efficient it is at removing stubborn mascara etc. I like the bottles pump action - I don't have to pick up the bottle - just press and catch. Its quite thin and wipes off easily.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 16/07/2017 13:27

Currently using the Emma Hardie one which is lovely, it has lasted ages but but am getting low. As I have just changed the rest of my skincare regime to Elemis (which is fabulous) I've treated myself to their balm as well.

mrslebon · 17/07/2017 14:01

The Eve Lom one is good, but smells of fish to me Confused

MaximaDeWit · 17/07/2017 15:34

Body Shop camomile one is a bargain and feels just like the Emma Hardie or Clinique one.

I know she's not popular on MN (but I love her) but I've been using the Caroline Hirons + Pixi double cleanse - solid oil (balm) and cream

AUsernameThatNooneHas · 17/07/2017 19:25

I like Elemis because it smells so good but I prefer EH as it performs better as a cleanser but the elemis one is really good too.
I didn't like the Eve Lon - it didn't agree with my skin and I realised why. It's choc full of mineral oil which is actually a very cheap ingredient

AUsernameThatNooneHas · 17/07/2017 19:25

Have you tried Merumaya

AUsernameThatNooneHas · 17/07/2017 19:27

As Jules has said I'm using the big 200ml EH pot and opened it just before Xmas. I still have at least a third left.
I used a micellar water first to remove makeup then go in with the balm
