Just got contact lenses....help!

Wasn't sure where to post this so sorry if it's in the wrong section!
I've just left Specsavers having got my new contact lenses and been taught how to put them, remove them and clean them etc.

However, I cannot see that well. Is this normal? I don't feel any benefit whatsoever at the minute. Is it because my eyes are still adjusting? They said it can take a while but I just wanted to know anyone's experiences of this.

My prescription is quite small so I can see "quite" well without them so this is why i'm able to type this but the words on the screen are blurry.

I have another appointment in just over a week....

That doesn't sound right to me. I'd call them/arrange another appointment if your sight is still blurry tomorrow.

Tanfastic · 07/07/2017 14:20

When I blink the text sharpens for a few seconds then goes again. I can see better without them in.

I did explain this before o left but they said it can take a few days.

Are they toric lenses?

I don't know what they are, toriic rings a bell though. I have no literature to say what they are. Solution packaging says easy vision ...sorry to sound useless.

I think my sight is better without them in to be honest...I shall persevere

What's your prescription? Mines -2.25 and -2.75 and I my sight improved immediately with my contacts. My partner had his lasered (-6.25 and -6.75) and needs eye drops to clear his vision most days. Might be worth trying drops.

wineusuallyhelps · 07/07/2017 14:43

I've worn contact lenses for nearly 30 years (currently in daily disposables from Specsavers but have had all kinds in the past).

After initially putting them in, they should settle down within a few seconds or so. I've never experienced the vision taking much longer than that. If they're right, they're right. Obviously, if you're new to lenses, the comfort side will take longer to settle.

Are you long sighted or short sighted? What is your prescription?

Tanfastic · 07/07/2017 14:46

I don't know my prescription off the top of my head as it's at home but been told it's very small 1. Something. I have astigmatism and a bit of something else. They've done one eye reading and the other to correct astigmatism but I can't see a bloody thing. Been about two hours now.

I'd definitely ring them and ask to be seen asap. A week is too long to wait.

SerfTerf · 07/07/2017 14:49

It could be that they're not sitting where they should.

SerfTerf · 07/07/2017 14:50

They should check them for you as a walk/in if you're having a problem.

SorrelSoup · 07/07/2017 14:50

That's not right. It could take 30 seconds maybe, a bit of blinking to settle them in but that's it. I trialled some new ones recently and I couldn't see with them. They were a new type. Don't be fobbed off.

eurochick · 07/07/2017 14:51

Are they inside out? This is easily done...

LastOneDancing · 07/07/2017 14:56

They said it could take a while

I can understand it feeling a bit funny at first, but your vision should be tip top straight away IME.

Can you take them out & go back?

changingShorts · 07/07/2017 14:57

I have astigmatism and contact lenses. The toric lenses sometime take a minute or two to find the right place on the eye as they are not perfectly spherical. But not any longer than that.

I would go back. It's possible if you are new to lenses that you've put it in the wrong way round (inside out) or torn it.

LastOneDancing · 07/07/2017 14:57

You've definitely got the correct lens in the correct eye?

Liiinoo · 07/07/2017 15:11

It sounds like they are the wrong way round. If you hold them on the tip of your finger if you invert them one way they look vaguely saucer shaped, if you invert them the other way they are rounder, more like a cereal bowl. Your eye is more round than flat so you want the round side in contact with your eye.

If that doesn't work, they may not have got your size right. It happens sometimes. Go back and get them to check. As other people have said, wearing contact lenses should be a 'wow! That's amazing experience'. If it isn't there is something wrong.

Daisy2315 · 07/07/2017 15:11

My thoughts are either wrong eyes or the wrong way round as already suggested.

Also I have a slight astigmatism and tried lenses to help this but I found my sight to be worse then normal contacts and I was advised that with the astigmatism lenses they can sit wrong which means vision not as clear.

Tanfastic · 07/07/2017 15:11

Yes they are in correct as I put them in under the instructions of the lady at specsavers. Unless she's put them in wrong. They are completely comfortable, I just can't see very well. My colleague has said my eyes look a bit sore though but o think that's because it took me about six attempts to get the damn things out when I was practicing with the optician.

I've just rang them. They said with toric lenses can take a few days and if they aren't right in a few days to go back. I'll give it a couple of days and if not right go back after the weekend I think.

StarTravels · 07/07/2017 15:13

I had a (perhaps) similar problem when I tried the acuvue lenses. It was a few years ago but I think the optician said it was a reaction to my tears building up on the lens after just a short wear time. I think it was because they were extra moist / permeable. I switched back to my good old focus dailies and never had the problem again.

Did you trial these lenses before you were sent home with them?

Tanfastic · 07/07/2017 15:17

I'm on the trial now. Eyes tested last week. My appointment today was to try them on and be taught how to put them in and take them out and. Lean them. Then they send you home to get used to them, go back in a week (or in my case 19th Jul).

Been wearing glasses for years but thought I'd try lenses

OlennasWimple · 07/07/2017 15:20

If they are too big they can slip out of place so don't make as much difference to your vision as they should - the fact that you get clear sight when you blink (and therefore the lenses move) strongly suggests to me that this is the case.

Don't wait for your next appointment to resolve this - your vision should be pretty much 20:20 straightaway

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 07/07/2017 15:38

I have never got on with toric lenses. Thankfully my vision is corrected enough with normal ones to be able to drive and stuff.
They can take a bit longer than normal ones to get used to but I just never liked them much always feel my vision is better without the astigmatism corrected than with.

Tanfastic · 07/07/2017 16:11

Well I've fucked it now. Couldn't see at work so took them out, one dropped on the floor. Now I can't find the fucker....Confused
