Anyone have problems with self tan but found an amazing one??

I have hated all fake tans that I have tried despite following the correct guidance, exfoliating etc etc. I have tried at home and also had spray tans. Always the same. Horrible smell you can smell for ages and ALWAYS horrible at the knees and goes patchy or streaks.

Do I give up forever or has anyone actually found one I should try? I have pale skin that does not tan so I wouldn't want to be too dark?

That's a great colour kenneth!

Another vote for clarins drops. The only one I can use with my sensitive skin and fool proof. (I also don't smell like biscuits after Grin)

Cocoa Brown. The only one I can apply without looking like a giraffe! They do a nice one called Gentle Bronze which you can apply daily and build up the tan. Or a one hour one which works more quickly

Haha a giraffe!! Yes that's me! Very good word to describe fake tan fail!

So really don't moisturise before putting it on?? Iv also put it on just before, let it sink in and then put the tan on! So if I exfoliate and then moisturise in the morning, then fake tan on in the evening WITHOUT putting any moisturiser on again, would that work?

Maybe Purlplerainbow. But I know I've moistursised in the morning, fake tanned at night, suffered the dang loathsome smell all night and the tan never took. It might depend a bit on how much oil/fat/petrolatum/wax etc in the moisturiser. An oil-free moisturiser might be ok. I don't know. But to be sure to be sure, I would wash off the morning moisturiser before tanning, or not apply moisturiser that morning.

Please can someone help me understand exfoliating Sad. I do body brushing, is this exfoliating, or do I need to do a scrub as well?

I have never used fake tan. I am bridesmaid to my friend next week and I don't want the pictures to look like a row of bronzed women and then me as a ghost at the end. I am startlingly pale.

JohnCheese · 22/06/2017 15:00

Body brushing is just a good ole scrub, to get rid of the drier, older, uneven top skin cells, so that you're left with lovely smooth healthy skin and your tan will take evenly and last longer. Or so the theory goes. I think your body brushing will work fine.

However, if you've never used fake tan before and it's for a special occasion, I would go to a salon. Much more guaranteed to get a good result. If you're v pale, make sure they just give you a nice glow.

Thanks JohnCheese (great name). I would book in for a spray tan, but I am honestly so embarrassed about my body, I feel terrible doing so!

JohnCheese · 22/06/2017 22:00

lanouvelle try not to be embarrassed. I think therapists have seen it all and more. And you could cover up as much of you as you like e.g. wear a cami, or shorts or whatever. I don't think they give a fig.

Just been online and I see st tropez has more products than they used to. Is it just new packaging or has the ingredients changed does anyone know? I haven't used them for about 5 years but can't bare the thought of the smell and bad knees!
