Is wearing black to a wedding a big faux pas?

Going to a wedding on Saturday.

Planning to wear black (not all black, but mainly)

DP says it's a no no as too funereal.

Whadda ya reckon?

I think not any more.

Mumpbump · 20/03/2007 16:48

I wouldn't - I agree with your dp, but I am very traditional...

Mossie · 20/03/2007 16:49

I think it's fine but then again I wore black to my own wedding so I'm biased!

hippmummy · 20/03/2007 16:49

I've worn black to a wedding before - I didn't know it was even an issue!

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 16:50

See, I wore a black dress to be a bridesmaid some years ago, but DP seems to think it's a wrong thing to do.

I'm far too fat for colour

nope - not an issue! when my sis was a bridesmaid for me she wore pink and black and she looked great!

collision · 20/03/2007 16:51

I think it would depend on what the accessories are like.

a black dress with a fab hat or a fascinator would look great.

does anyone really care what anyone else apart from the bride is wearing??

ScottishThistle · 20/03/2007 16:52

I'd wear black & intend to wear black to my Cousin'd wedding at the end of the year though I'll probably wear coloured shoes!

beckybrastraps · 20/03/2007 16:52

I did notice that both Sarah Brown and Samantha Cameron wore black to the same wedding a week or so ago.

So depending on your thinking...

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 16:52

I'll go with my original plan then.

DP has about as much style sense of a beansprout anyway.

The outfit I have planned makes me took the least wide out of all the possibilities

Also, my Boss is a legendary Fashionista & she wore black to a wedding not that long ago!

collision · 20/03/2007 16:53

How wide are you?

and what are the accessories?

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 16:53

Brill, I'll tell DP to shut his big unfashionable gob then

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 16:54

I am w i d e.

I'm not sure about accessories yet. I'm not a jewellery/shoes/bags kind of girl

Personally I hate all that wedding pastel coloured thing people do, it makes me feel sick!

ScottishThistle · 20/03/2007 16:55

Ooooh you need fabulous shoes!

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 16:56

me too.

Plus pastels are impractical when 2 small children under 2.5 are factored into the equation

chocolate fingerprints anyone?

OP posts:
IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 16:57

I only have 4 pairs of (black) shoes. I also have to time sans children and no money to go shopping before Saturday, so black shoes it is.

I have about 900 pairs of flip flops though.

OP posts:
ScottishThistle · 20/03/2007 17:03

Ok black shoes it is, do you have a coloured jacket/pashmina?

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/03/2007 17:06

have got a pink pashmina. kind of light pink

I wore black to a wedding once. A lovely dress with high black shoes. I wore no other colours with it. I looked rather fabulous if I do say so myself!

CarGirl · 20/03/2007 17:15

I think provided that you are clearly happy for the couple black is great! Think I would be a tad upset if non-approving friends/realtives wore black......

MrsBadger · 20/03/2007 17:16

will be fine so long as it's not all black or eg a black work suit.

think hard re pale pink and black though - tis not a combo that is universally flattering

maybe time to buy a lovely wrap and a bag...

LilRedWG · 20/03/2007 17:17

My MIL wore black leather gloves, black shoes and her hat had a black band around it.
