I've run out of my usual and fancy a change. Any recommendations to help me stop looking like I've been punched in the face and make me look a little less old and haggard..

Does anyone use Lush face creams? What are they like?

murphys · 13/06/2017 07:09

I usually use the Clarins extra firming range. But over the weekend I went to the shop where I usually buy (not in UK but its a bit like a wholesale type place) and they had the Vital light sets going so cheap. I haven't used this range before, but I used the day cream and night cream for 2 days now, and really, its already made a difference! The only problem is, typically, is Clarins have discontinued it, so its going cheap if you can find it. I bought two sets (which worked out cheaper than one pot of extra firming day cream), but tempted to go back and get another now. That should last me a good year then. In the set is full size day cream, the 50ml tube of night cream and a serum. For about 25 pounds!

I have tried other brands in the past, but everything else seems to flare up my eczema (which unfortunately I only seem to get on my face), so although I would like to try some Korean brands, I am a bit nervous to. Anyone else have eczema and use Korean brands?

Nivea in the blue pot, or whatever's on offer!

beekeeper17 · 13/06/2017 07:14

I was using Liz Earle for the past couple of
years and it is very nice but then I was on a bit of an economy drive and picked up some Nivea q10 in Tesco, they frequently have it on offer at just £5 a pot, it's usually £10. I actually prefer it to my Liz Earle stuff, it's great!

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/06/2017 07:53

Ooh I'm going to need a bank loan testing out all these. I want them all Grin

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference which is excellent. I use the face wash, Toner and day cream and I use Garnier Ultra Lift (red pot) for a night cream it literally gets rid of any fine lines and tightens after a week or so of use. Even the rep at Elizabeth Arden said she can't fault the Garnier Ultra Lift! I'm 37 and don't have any wrinkles or fine lines.

Iamastonished · 13/06/2017 08:02

I'm 58 with normal/combination skin and have used many face creams over the years. Quite frankly, unless you have problem skin or very sensitive skin it doesn't really matter what brand you use. I am using Boots no7 Protect and Perfect these days. I like it because it doesn't make my face feel greasy and it has a nice scent.

I haven't noticed that any cream makes a difference to lines and wrinkles though, but I am short sighted and wouldn't be able to see it anyway.

Onceafortnight · 13/06/2017 08:28

The Nivea range is the only one that doesn't give me random spots or affect my eczema. I am currently using Nivea daily essentials anti age day cream on offer in asda.

BusterGonad · 13/06/2017 08:29

I personally think that the key to not getting lines and wrinkles is to keep your skin hydrated, I may be wrong but richer creams seem to smooth my skin out very well.

welshmist · 13/06/2017 08:44

Use a tresonic regularly to clean your skin no cream can work well on clogged up skin.

VintagePerfumista · 13/06/2017 10:56

I've used Lush in the past...they used to do a fabulous one whose name escapes me but it smelled divine. Discontinued. I did have a pot of Skin Shangri La but it was no better than any other I've tried.

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/06/2017 11:01

Unfortunately when I regularly use a cleanser it seems to give me really bad skin/spots.

It's keeping out of the sun and not smoking that makes the biggest difference.

O/p i am spot prone and am better with the burts bees. My kids both are sensitive to petroleum though so it's not a stretch to think i am. My skin is definitely softer and i don't get that really tight feeling after i've washed anymore.

coffeecakemum · 13/06/2017 14:11

I love Estée Lauder day wear. A friend who travels a lot for work uses that and ANR serum has amazing skin for early 50s. I am similar age to OP. Now with childcare costs I have switched to Nivea and haven't felt nice of a change. I use anti cellular range. Again £10 on offers. Another good friend swears by cetaphil and sun cream and has lovely skin. Partly genes play a role. I find BHA every other day also helps decongest skin. But of trial and error with creams. Best is to get samples from everywhere and try

coffeecakemum · 13/06/2017 14:13

Apologies for typos. I tried replying on phone

BusterGonad · 13/06/2017 14:18

Really I agree but facial sunscreen gives me eczema and can be really problematic, and I didn't mention the smoking as that is obviously the no1 preventative. For me a moisturised face really is a smooth face!

LoupGarou · 13/06/2017 15:33

I agree with Buster, when my face, and actually all of my skin is well moisturised it looks so much better than if its even marginally dry. I'm going to give Astral a try, thanks for the recommendation Smile.

I also think the best face wash I've ever tried is the Tony Moly banana face wash, it smells like banana milkshake (which I love, not great if you don't like bananas though!) and it so hydrating and lovely but doesn't clog my skin at all. I use that and then just a cheapo Clearasil type cleanser, then my serum, face cream etc and it works well for me.

Loup Astral is very old school and smells lovely imo but it's not for everyone though, another great one is Aveeno but it's not as rich and old fashioned as Astral. I'm moving next week and will have to restock all my creams etc so I've already told myself I'm buying a huge tub of Astral to use on my face and body and it's so cheap!!!

LoupGarou · 13/06/2017 18:31

Thanks Buster, I'm currently using Nivea blue pot and I get on well with that so Astral sounds good. I react very very badly to Aveeno so always steer clear of that now. I shall have a hunt for Astral, I'm pretty sure i've seen it in grocery stores (I'm in the US), if not I'l lorder some from Amazon Smile

Allice · 13/06/2017 19:06

I use l'occitane Divine but have stopped using it in summer as it doesn't seem to have any spf in it. I quite like it but not keen on the fragrance.
I use Clinique super defence in summer, has 20 spf, will go back to divine for the winter though.

BusterGonad · 13/06/2017 20:02

Oh well Loup you know the score, just out of interest is your Nivea blue the German made one or Mexican? I'm intrigued by the online debates about which is best!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/06/2017 20:04

Divine is a night cream, doesn't need SPF.

LoupGarou · 13/06/2017 20:50

Thanks Buster. I've currently got the Mexican one but I went to the palava of hunting down the German one a while ago and I couldn't tell even the slightest difference between the two in terms of how good it was for my skin or its texture/smell/colour - I coukdnt tell the two apart, but I love trialling and experimenting Grin
