Can I do anything about my red face

TheoriginalKB · 31/05/2017 21:31

I have a very red complexion which gets even redder as soon as I get a bit tired, a bit hot or have a drink.
In group photos my face always stands out as being so much redder than anyone else even with make up on.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the redness? I also have very sensitive skin, anything I put on it makes it more red and stingy except for a little bit of E45 cream used occasionally.

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate the help and suggestions.
I use olive oil on my (also dry and sensitive) legs and arms and that does not sting.
Do you have recommendation for an oil cleanser to try or it is literally just using oil from the kitchen cupboard Confused

facecaretalks.com/best-essential-oils-for-sensitive-skin/

This link should help.

TheoriginalKB · 31/05/2017 22:01

Sorry cross post again, I will start with dermalogica and see if I can get some samples and then take it from there.
Thanks again for the help, I don't come on to S&B very often and am pretty clueless about skincare Blush

If you pm I will gladly send you out any samples I have when my stuff finally arrives...

Look at the barrier repair product from dermalogica. It's amazing!

Hotwater bottle. Cc creams are everywhere now, maybelline do a decent one that doesn't cost the earth!

What is IPL?

Kez0777 · 31/05/2017 22:07

Hope it's ok to justo the post but batbie1 I have a really good skin care routine, cleanse tone, serum and moisture morning and night and my skin is really red. It's worse when I get out of the shower and things like that. Do you think mine is moisture? I have actually just recently ordered some astral to try do you think that will help? Thanks

cheminotte · 31/05/2017 22:10

How old are you OP? Could it be rosacea? I've been a bit red in the face for a few years but it's got a lot worse in the last few months.

Barbie1 · 31/05/2017 22:10

Kez, sounds like your routine just needs tweaking. Might be one product that is causing the reaction. Try the astral minus the serum for a few days..see how you get on.
I'll keep checking back to help

Barbie1 · 31/05/2017 22:12

Kez, water is actually drying to the skin. I can't tolerate water on my face. Feels right after Hmm

I would keep your face routine separate from the shower, cleanse using a cream cleaner and cotton pads or a hot cloth cleanse but with a cooler cloth

Kez0777 · 31/05/2017 22:20

Thanks barbie1 I'll give that a go, do you think it's worth me trying a cc cream too? Would that replace moistureriser and then foundation on top?

Barbie1 · 31/05/2017 22:22

Personally I would always apply moisturiser and wait at least 5 mins then apply the cc. I haven't found either bb or cc to be moisturising enough to use on its own

LoveBeingAMum555 · 31/05/2017 22:22

I have the same problem which has slowly worsened as I have aged. At 45 years old my skin is truly awful, red, blotchy, sensitive and prone to spots. Outdoor sports such as running and cycling aggravate my skin.

Clinique redness solutions is my life saver, a pot of their daily relief cream lasts me months and is worth every penny. The instant I put it on my skin feels better. I find that making sure I gently cleanse my face really thoroughly helps too.

My son's hospital consultant once said that E45 cream should never be put on the face as it is vastly overrated and not kind to delicate skin. Don't use it myself but it's worth mentioning!

flamencia · 31/05/2017 22:47

I'm only just working my way through products which might help but I like Aveeno Ultracalming Daily Moisturiser. I buy it off amazon. Their wash is okay too but I ran out and I'm currently using micellar water. I also started using a serum from The Original called azelaic acid which can be prescribed at a stronger strength but this is just bought online for 10%. It's really helping me. Unfortunately I started it at the same time as micellar water so I'm not sure which is the one that is working.

Yika · 31/05/2017 22:59

I use Bioderma Atoderm for dry sensitive skin. Very gentle and the moisturiser locks in moisture incredibly effectively - skin feels plump and soft.

PacificDogwod · 31/05/2017 23:03

Have you had a doctor look at your skin?

Sorry, I have no advice on overpriced and overhyped products.

Consider vegetable oils to cleans and moisturise with meantime.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/05/2017 23:33

Aveeno cream and a light dusting of Lily Lolo Blush Away.

Soozikinzii · 31/05/2017 23:35

My husband has had rosacea for years and tries everytreatment going but has recently has hifu treatment which has definitely worked . I don't know how or why but it has worked xx

ggirl · 31/05/2017 23:41

I use Ariane Poole face tint to cover my redness
saw her using it on you tube

I love it , looks very natural , am planning on getting her concealer for the redder bits

As for rosacea treatment , look up Dr Sam Bunting on you tube , she's done some good videos on it.

TitaniasCloset · 01/06/2017 00:12

Just a suggestion but Lush do a hot cloth cleanser called Ultrabland which is very mild and they are usually good about giving samples.

teta · 01/06/2017 05:54

I have very red cheeks too.I use Cetaphil or Clinique cleansing balm and Clinique redness reducing creams.I've tried so
many products over the years and have reacted to nearly all.Astral and Nivea would be like a red rag to a bull as they're so highly perfumed. Increasing the amount of oily fish you eat, Max EPA or Flax seed oil capsules will help damp down any allergic reactions. However Ipl has been the only thing that has removed the redness for me for a number of years.I think this has to be done by a dermatologist not someone unqualified.

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 01/06/2017 08:29

I have similar.
I minimise it by the following
Alwayswear sunscreen
Never paint myself green ( pastel Hulk is not a good look on anyone)
Never use products that contain mineral oil or alcohol.
Do not exfoliate , scrub, peel or brush your face.
Never ever believe anything will make it go away completely. ( This will save you a fortune) the redness is blood near the surface of your pale slightly translucent skin. Getting this to go away would involve cutting off the blood supply. ( Unless it's caused by irritation / inflammation - in which case get seen by a doctor not someone trying to sell you moisturiser)
And if it really bothers you avoid things which dilate the capillaries..like drinking alcohol.

aliciagardner · 01/06/2017 08:39

Hotwaterbottle just checked for you. It's bourjois, not garnier, sorry! Bourjois 123 perfect cc cream. I got it from boots I think.
