I'm so jealous of naturally slender people in this weather.

You can only really look stylish in the heat if you're naturally very slim, I reckon. There are several mums at my DD's school who have that tiny-framed, small-breasted, gamine look going on, and they look wonderful, drifting about in loose-fitting, floaty clothes that makes anyonre bigger than a size 10 and a B cup look like a ship in a ship in full sail.

It's definitely a shape thing, not just a weight thing. Even at my thinnest, when I was a size 10, I could never have pulled off that look, I was still too curvy.

So jealous. I want to drift too!

OP I couldn't agree more.

I'm a 10/12 and feel rubbish in very hot weather.

I don't like showing my upper arms, I have big boobs so floaty /spaghetti type tops are out.

Also have chub rub so need to watch that too.

Dresses are fine as long as they aren't too short and have sleeves that are not the dreaded bat wing ones. Finding dresses like that is a pita.

It's 13 degrees here today so I'm in jeans, cowboy boots, roll neck and biker jacket Grin

AllFurCoatNoKnockers · 26/05/2017 14:56

@MorningGlory17 I'm on something called ustekinimab (sp?) which gets injected every 3 months. It's the only med I haven't built up a resistance to. This weather is horrible with psoriasis, any kind of sweat really aggravated mine.

Deathraystare · 26/05/2017 15:18

It is my own fault I feel crap in the heat. Every summer I vow to lose weight but do I? Nope. With bra cups the size of dinner plates I get very sweaty and uncomfortable.

yummycake123 · 26/05/2017 15:31

I agree with you OP!
I'm 5ft4, size 14 with D boobs... it's a nightmare. In my imagination I look cool in my jersey trousers and floaty top but when I catch a glimpse of myself on a mirror I'm like "WTF? I look like a ball!!!"
Also, people usually have something "good" going on: ie. if you have a tummy maybe you have good legs; or if you have short chubby legs you might have nice toned arms...
I have short chubby legs, a tummy, and chubby arms!

JaceLancs · 26/05/2017 17:25

I'm a size 14 5'4"
I've felt very cool at work today in a cotton wrap dress with flat pointy shoes
Just bought a linen dress from M & S of all places which will tick similar boxes
I seem to get hotter in shorts and vest tops which doesn't make sense
Cotton Lycra t shirts or linen vest tops suit me best worn with tube skirts
I've also found some lovely floaty thin material but not see through vest tops in tkmaxx recently
I'm past 50 and don't care about my bingo wings anymore
The hardest thing I struggle to find is comfortable shoes and sandals as I've got small narrow feet and slide through most things!

I agree with OP. Last year I lost a little weight and for once wearing enjoyed summer clothes. I swore I would never put it back on, but it's crept up and am now watching what I eat and upping my exercise again. Winter clothes are so forgiving!!!

SouthChinaMorningPost · 26/05/2017 20:10

Furcoat - I'm utterly fed up with it, enough to consider biological, presumably this is the new immunosuppressant? I try to look decent but am losing heart. i feel so scabby! did you ever try diet? Ive been diet focussed for years now but think I should just throw in the towel and go conventional

OCSockOrphanage · 26/05/2017 20:21

Dieting is evil and saps anyone's will to enjoy life. Choose small plates, don't overload them, turn down snacks, especially cakes, biscuits and cheese. If you want a treat, have less than 25 grams of it, a few times each week. More veg, some lean protein. Eat slowly. Get out and walk. Walk up stairs. Get off the bus a stop before home. Get a dog, or borrow one.

TisapityshesaGeordie · 26/05/2017 21:07

Not sure where dieting was mentioned, other than SouthChina's post, and that was in reference to psoriasis.

I'm a reasonable weight, ish - high end of a healthy BMI, so yes, could be thinner, but I have an ok diet and am not prepared to deprive myself of the few treats I do have to achieve that. And even if I did, it wouldn't give me a gamine figure - I've always been curvy, even when very slim.

Yes windward I have to encase my feet in summer or else my heels crack etc. We all have issues... Yes those women that drift around all ephemeral and Long Islandy are essentially a different species.

SafeWord · 26/05/2017 21:15

I think I look lovely in my summer clothes. Im not perfect but I dont care.
I feel good.

SouthChinaMorningPost · 26/05/2017 22:25

just to clarify, by diet, i meant cutting out food groups, not losing weight. ive been every size going and had far more confidence when i was much heavier and had no psoriasis. i prize healthy skin above everything else though.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/05/2017 09:19

Actually, i tend to agree but not because of looks as it is for comfort. I am a 12 and on a good day a 10 but its more to do with shape for me. My mum tum irritates me and i have overhang :( I had no chest until children and it has progressively got bigger. I hate it. I find I am less able to wear strappy tops but mostly because I hate wearing underwired bras that dig in in the heat. I have a cleavage at the back and despite being fairly slim and having slimmed I just cant get rid of it and yes I have done bra intervention. As i have got older the dreaded inner thighs are not as toned and chub rub pursues!!!! [despite having lost weight]So yes, I would also love it if i was like my sweet dd who shoves on a pair of shorts and a vest and looks lovely, no lumps or bumps catching things :( I had forgotten that the heat makes me feel double the weight that I actually am!!!
On the other hand I do love the sun and generally it does make me feel happy :)

neveradullmoment99 · 27/05/2017 09:20

*strapless bras not underwired!!!

Crochita · 27/05/2017 09:52

Everyone is naturally slender, excess weight/fat is a choice!

Body shape is something you can work around short legs, long arms, tall of short height, big breasts, small breasts etc you can dress to suit your shape.

Rockaby · 27/05/2017 10:24

I disagree croch. I have been borderline underweight before now and still am not what I would call "slender" at that weight; I naturally have broad shoulders, am tallish and have huge norks (f cups at my slimmest). I still struggled in the heat at that weight too. I love the gamine look, but I'll never be that shape Sad. I work with what I've got though and feel pretty great.

TisapityshesaGeordie · 27/05/2017 11:25

Exactly Crochita, I have been extremely slim in the past, with a tiny waist and very slim arms and legs (when I say I was a size 10, I mean an actual dressmaker size 10, not a vanity size 10); but I still had hips, a round bottom and big boobs. I've not been able to go without a bra since I was 14.

I'm talking about a very specific type, that very few people have, especially once they have kids and get into their late 30s-40s.

OP posts:
TisapityshesaGeordie · 27/05/2017 11:25

I meant to agree with Rockaby, not Crochita.

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 27/05/2017 11:48

I also disagree rockaby. I have been extremely slim when i was an 8 but still had a pear shape. Also, what do you suggest if you have had twins and have excess skin on your tummy? No amount of exercise will shift it, god, ive tried over the years. I can make it look better but its still there. A tummy tuck is not an option. My body has been completely mishapen due to my children.

toffeeboffin · 27/05/2017 14:36

I am not naturally slim and never will be.

I'm medium build, my shoulders are broader than my SIL's for example. You can't change your bones.

Which is fine : I embrace my hourglass figure and accept the fact that gamine just isn't me. It's easier to do in winter though!

toffeeboffin · 27/05/2017 14:37

Even at a size 8/10 my inner thighs are big. Less big, but they still touch.
