I was in the Kew branch and found smart t-shirts in Autograph and Limited Edition that I really liked. Also trousers in Autograph. There are good things in the stores but you have to wade through dross to find them.

I quite like it Blush

I'm not sure where I'd where it though - bit fancy for day to day, but not what I'd where out.

I agree with Abra - hideous dress but plenty of perfectly normal, wearable stuff in my local branch. I've got my eye on some linen shirts in Autograph that feel like a reasonably decent weight.

I posted in another thread about how awful that dress is. I was in M&S yesterday (headed to the food hall! Grin) and there is was on a mannequin, pride of place in the middle of the shop. It's haunting me!

Close up it is even worse, the fabric reminds me of 1970s clothes, like the party dresses that gave you electric shocks. It looks like a 1970s maternity dress. The hem hangs very awkwardly, the stitching is bad. Do you think M&S ordered way too many, thinking it was going to be the dress of the season, and now they are trying to shift them all by paying the fashion columnists to rave about it?

What has happened to Jess Cartner-Morley? Last weekend she was advocating pink velour trousers, now this? Has she been replaced by a Stepford-wife?

It's quite Abigails Party. I might even like it. I like a bonkers dress though Grin

Abra1d - yes when I was in M&S yesterday, (after my eyes readjusted from the horrible 1970s party dress section), I did notice a section of more stylish clothes further back in the store, and made a mental note to return. It's a shame if the naff stuff puts people everyone looking at the other clothing sections, I wouldn't have notice them if I hadn't been cutting through to get some lunch!

. This is that elusive dress, straightforward enough to feel doable when you have a long day at work to dress for, but has enough about it that you could go out for the evening and not feel too Cinderella-ish in your office clothes.

She can't even figure out what it is that she supposedly likes about it. Confused

'Straightforward enough to be doable'?
'Has enough about it'?

WTF?

redshoeblueshoe yes I see that comment under the white dress Shock
I can't even imagine why anyone would choose clothes on the basis that you can get dressed without waking a sleeping man Confused

I had a laugh the that DVF quote so the wrap dress is the ultimate walk of shame dress, according to her!

I think if you replace the words 'long day at work' with 'very bad bloat' and 'go out for the evening' with 'could still make it to your sister's fancy dress party as Grayson Perry' it would make sense.

abra glad to hear some Autograph has returned to the Kew store. Was annoyed when it disappeared from there.
Grazia this week also featured the pink dress in their 'pick if the week' list. On the page before was the full pageM and S ad featuring The Dress. So no connection there then ...

Goodness, I cannot believe it. I haven't seen this but I am sure I have not missed anything! Its as if they are aiming at a young, sexy market but have no idea how to do it. why don't they get back to what they used to do well, providing clothes that any age can wear - the middle of the road market. Their materials are cheap rubbish and the colours and patterns are, in the main, awful.

We have one of those massive stores and it has been in the window for weeks. I mentioned to the staff that mumsnet hate it en masse but she said loads of people have come in to buy it as they love itConfused
I could solve their clothing woes in one fell swoop and tell them where they are going wrong as most of us could. They need to go back to sensible classics and aim their clothing at either the middle aged traditional m& s shopper or go for the younger trendier market! Though i think they are on a hiding to nothing going down that road!
But at the moment they are a mishmash and cant make their minds up.
Also they are that bit too expensive for a lot of people who dont want (or cant afford ) to pay £ 40 for a jumper or £50 for a skirt. On top of that they obviously need to stop trying to sell hideous clothing !
