Burberry Trench - yea or nay?

bananafish81 · 21/05/2017 16:42

It’s been a phenomenally shit 2 years, have burned £40k on fertility treatment and now at the end of the road, and starting to emerge out of the dark and try to find a new normal

Trying to revamp my wardrobe to a more capsule style, with fewer + better quality pieces. If I’m going to be barren and childless, I’d like to at least be stylish.

My 10+ y.o. French Connection trench finally gave up the ghost, leaving a black-trench-shaped hole. I’ve got a very basic M&S black trench as a stopgap - it’s perfectly serviceable, but it’s not the most flattering on my small frame (5’8” and size 6-8). So I’m on the hunt for that perfect, slim fit, good quality trench that will cinch in at the waist, and last me for years to come.

Meeting a friend yesterday, I saw her Burberry trench up close.

DROOOOOOL.

It really is epically stunning. And so very flattering on her.

Am finding myself seriously debating whether to spring for a Burberry trench as a lifetime investment piece (my 65 y.o Dad has had his for over 40 years)

It is a completely insane amount of money to spend, obvs. Utterly obscene.

Would I be completely out of my tree?

I so would, if I could remotely justify/afford it.

You deserve it. Wink

KimJongCunt · 21/05/2017 16:48

I've worn my Dads from the seventies since I was eighteen.

I'm five foot nine size 10.

I always get compliments on it and if funds allowed I'd buy a new one.

Go for it!

AdoraBell · 21/05/2017 16:52

Yes, go for it.

I have coveted them for years.

AyeAmarok · 21/05/2017 16:53

It sounds like it would be perfect on you; you're frame was made for a Burberry trench!

Do it. You won't regret it.

AyeAmarok · 21/05/2017 16:54

Your**

CricketRuntAndRashers · 21/05/2017 16:57

They're nice. Go for it :)

Funclesmuck · 21/05/2017 16:58

Until I met someone who had one, I would have said you would
Be mental to spend all those pennies on a coat. But, after seeing a close friend with one, I would rip it off her in an instant and not feel any guilt whatsoever. Go for it, they are a thing of beauty and stand out a mile in a sea of trench coats.

Funclesmuck · 21/05/2017 16:59

Also, Harrods do good Burberry sales.

IHaveTwoKidsWhoLoveWatermelon · 21/05/2017 16:59

Yes, treat yourself!

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 21/05/2017 17:00

Definitely. Huge advocate of them. But go to Bicester - HUGE selection there for up to half the price.

Swimminguphill · 21/05/2017 17:12

My friend has one and it looks a million dollars on her. She is 5'10" size 6-8. She always looks amazing and well groomed. I would look like a homeless person in it, as I do in all trenches 😂. Her husband, who imo always looks a bit grubby, also has one and it does smarten him up a bit too! If you can afford it, look good in it and want it I would say go for it!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 21/05/2017 17:24

Definitely do it, it sounds like you know you'd wear it loads.

I got mine (the honey Kensington) in the sales with 30% off as an impulse buy, but if I were you I'd go to Burberry and try them all on. I wouldn't go to Bicester, I'm never sure whether they're the same quality (Burberry never discount the heritage trenches so why would they sell them at a discount in the outlet store?) and when I went there they were all still £900. If you want to try and find a discounted one then at least you'll know which style you're after. FYI mine came from Flannels.

Go for it, and enjoy Flowers

caffelatte100 · 21/05/2017 17:28

If you can afford it and love it, why not. The lighter colours get more stained though so maybe a darker one would work well. I have a Tommy Hilfiger one, also very stylish, and I get a lot of nice comments. I got it at an outlet mall, think that it was around 170 pounds...

libertydoddle · 21/05/2017 17:34

If you can afford it then go for it! I have one and wear it 6 months of the year and always feel great in it.

MacarenaFerreiro · 21/05/2017 17:40

I was all ready to come on and say nooooooo that check is so awful. But those are all lovely coats.

if you can afford it, go for it.

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 21/05/2017 17:42

@BlairWaldorfLovesShopping - if she's in the area I think it's still worth the trip. I was there yesterday and the range is enormous. I have two - one from Harvey Nicks and one from Bicester. It just depends on desired style, ultimately, and where it's available.

jenniuol · 21/05/2017 17:44

Oh yes op, go for it. You definitely deserve it. I would adore one.

iamreginaphalange · 21/05/2017 17:48

Great investment piece I think.
Go on treat yourself 👍🏻

Launderetta · 21/05/2017 17:50

Do it.
You owe it to yourself.
Enjoy it!

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 21/05/2017 18:11

Oh definitely treat yourself. They are gorgeous and you deserve it Smile

pasturesgreen · 21/05/2017 18:20

Do it!! You so deserve it!

I got one from the Burberry outlet in London after my graduation, have had it for 10 years or so, still looking pristine.

My dad is 71 and has had his since the 1960s.

bananafish81 · 22/05/2017 23:48

Thank all, you wonderful enablers!!

Really appreciate your thoughts - I am so totally going to splurge. I have a weekly meeting on Regent Street so I feel a diversion to the Burberry flagship store in my future...!!

AdoraBell · 23/05/2017 00:02

Oh yes to the flagship store, lovely shopping experience Grin I was offered champagne when I bought little trinkets a Thomas bear.

IJustLostTheGame · 23/05/2017 08:11

Get a secondhand one on ebay, mine was £50 and it's beautiful.
I feel like audrey hepburn/kate moss/Alexa chung when I wear it
even if I look nothing like them

SesameSparkle · 23/05/2017 08:37

With some understanding of what you've been through and how much it cost, I say do it! Grin
