If you wear a lot of black, what do you wear in summer?

I'm going to a really hot country on holiday and I have no idea how to dress 'summery'. I'm normally in skinny jeans, leather jacket, boots etc. I'm thinking denim skirt, vest top etc but that seems a bit boring Confused

Hi, I'm Greek. Greeks love black and only the (English) tourists wear florals 😂. They also wear a lot of white. You can mix it with some grey, khaki or navy.

hollieberrie · 21/05/2017 21:26

I wear mainly khaki, black grey and navy all year round. My only nod to "summery colours" is white plimsolls. Grin

picklemepopcorn · 21/05/2017 21:39

Black linen wide leg trousers and cropped trousers. Linen tunics

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 21/05/2017 21:51

I'm going to fit right in then marakiGrin I'm really excited now Grin

I'm also like you who wear a lot of black. But when it's really hot, I wear white shirts, or striped black/white shirts during summer. Denim skirts. Shorts.

metalmum15 · 22/05/2017 07:26

Love black! I might wear more summery colours when it's hot, but still wear black /khaki denim shorts, vest tops, light floaty dresses /playsuits, short minidresses with black or navy cropped leggings. I quite like a bit of red/purple /green for a splash of colour, really don't do pinks /yellows /pastels etc.

herecomesthsun · 22/05/2017 07:32

I wore black a lot more when I was younger. Black linen is fine in summer and good for travelling in an interrailing/island hopping/enterprising sort of way. I accessorised a lot with chunky jewellery.

White cotton and black linen can go well together.

Iamastonished · 22/05/2017 07:45

Pastels don't suit me either, but I can still look summery. The key thing to remember in very hot weather is to wear loose clothing. Skinny jeans are incredibly uncomfortable in the heat.

poppym12 · 22/05/2017 07:54

Black Confused. I never wear pastels or bright colours and the 'summery prints ' that get trotted out each year nauseate me. I wear various shades of grey, blue, black and white all year round just in different style clothes and fabrics.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/05/2017 08:24

Pastels and florals are just not me either. When I was out shopping last week it was a sea of neon and pom poms Confused I think online shopping might be the way to go.

Navy.
I'm abroad now wearing a joules harbour dress
I've got a couple of gap navy dresses with me and a pair of cream shorts and a couple of black teeshirt.

On the rare hot days we get here, Scotland, I always feel like everyone else is instantly looks bright and summery and I'm stomping about looking like a harbinger of doom. Grin I definitely need to do some swaps, boots and jeans just won't do. I've ordered some khaki shorts and a dark denim mini. I've got some sandals so getting there.

Navy is a good alternative, I actually suit it a bit better than black tbh

Stomping about looking like a harbinger of doom 😂😂

I still wear my black skinnies here in (cooler) summer weather, but team them with a bright vest top, funky printed cardi (I have a red one with skulls that I love ) and black or pewter pretty sandals. Don't look quite so much like the grim reaper then!

quirkychick · 22/05/2017 10:39

Haha, has anyone seen the thread about wearing black to a wedding? Lots of people think you should wear bright florals in summer, it's not really my style.

Linen and cotton are great in the heat. Oversized shirts go well with denim shorts, skirts etc.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/05/2017 11:03

Yes I have wore black to at least one summer wedding Blush I feel very rebellious, didn't know it was a faux pas.

Pewter? I hadn't thought of that, would be a change from gold and silver.

Shiny silver

Quirky that thread is hilarious. I'm actually really surprised by the number of people who genuinely assume nobody wears black full stop in the summer! And that all summer weddings have to have a pastels theme. I'm assuming these people never actually enter a clothes shop in the summer months as they're still full of black clothes, just more summery looking.

metalmum15 · 22/05/2017 12:10

Lois I've got some lovely pewter sandals from Primark, they cost me about £6 and have been out every summer for the last 4 years!

quirkychick · 22/05/2017 13:15

Lois pewter is gorgeous, pewter snakeskin sandals? Some monochrome pattern are nice such as, stripes and today I am in grey leopard harems (not cotton, sadly). Tkmaxx has loads of sandals atm.

metalmum5 great name btw, I do think the very English floral style for summer can look awful. I'm just not a very girly dresser. I would wear a peasant/boho top with jeans or denim shorts but nothing flouncy. A lot of Mediterranean countries wear very chic, neutral looks for hot weather.

This blog www.un-fancy.com has lots of minimal hot weather outfits (she's in texas).

MaQueen · 22/05/2017 13:39

I still wear lots of black & grey...I have lots of black/grey jersey sundresses from Esprit which are really good quality, and drape nicely. I wear them with silver, flat sandals and silver gypsy bangles.

Nice. Cool. Simple. Smile

I'm also a huge fan of the Holiday Capsule Wardrobe - so my suitcase is filled with black, grey, white, navy and a leetle bit of red. Job done Smile

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/05/2017 13:53

I feel a bit daft now. It's not like they would stop me at customs saying "You can't enter Greece unless you are wearing that pink dress from M&S"
Grin
Lots of ideas, thanks again everyone.

Some people look good in bright colours/florals - but I'm not one of them.

metalmum15 · 22/05/2017 16:07

Quirky thank you. Probably a bit obvious because I like black Wink
