Horribly ripped skin during a Professional facial wax, please help! Pics attached.

Hi everyone, (pics attached)

I decided to have my face waxed by a professional because doing it myself is a fiddly job at best.

Before booking, I spoke to the beautician and I said I've gotten a scar before on my face with OTC wax strips and she said it should not have happened if done right because the skin needs to be pulled taut to prevent that.
I agreed and said that's why I need a professional to do it this time and she's been doing this for 10 years.

Started off with a mind numbingly painful Hollywood wax - I was literally seeing stars - followed by tummy and then face which was a neverending nightmare too. Problems:

  1. The skin was not stretched before pulling on the strips.
  2. So this meant pulling the cloth and my skin pulled along with it and no wax coming off my face. Cue several more one handed push and pulls to get it out.
  3. Final rip that hurt so bad.
  4. I felt a very thick layer of wax was used so the pulling just stretched out my face and copious amounts of wax like pulling on gum (it hurt).

But no stretching - lots of pain and MANY SCARS. See attached pics.

Why didn't I say anything while she was doing it? It was the last treatment of the session and I kept asking her to do it in the beginning and put pressure on after the rip (ladies you know much that helps) but eventually she just kept forgetting and did it her way and after the nether bits waxing - I was literally seeing galaxies of stars.

I rang her just now and all she had to say was "My apologies and try keep it clean and fingers crossed, it will heal over the next couple of days". I said I could send her photos but she wasn't so keen - said I could if I wanted to. Should I?

She is the owner of her business too. WWYD please? (Please be gentle, I've been up all night in agony and I'm going to see a GP today)

How is your face healing OP? I hope the solicitors have some luck

Itsfreetobekind · 07/06/2017 13:36

Hi TheWitch the scabs have all fallen off as gross as it sounds. They disappeared after about a week.
It's been about 3 weeks now and 3 patches have left what looks like permanent marks on my face. I'm gutted.

The solicitors have reached her insurance and have asked for pictures of the injury which I've sent. This was last week. Hopefully it keeps moving along.

Thanks so much for asking!!

Please keep us posted, OP. I hope you are almost healed!

hollyisalovelyname · 08/06/2017 20:49

That's awful OP. You poor thing.
Have you been using Retin A ?
I got horribly scarred when using it and getting lip waxed.

Itsfreetobekind · 09/06/2017 10:23

Hi hollyisalovelyname, no I have never used Retin A. My skin isn't sensitive tbh so that's why I felt the damage x 1000000 because it was proper ripped. Yeouch.

PocketNiffler · 19/07/2017 22:15

How are you getting on op?

Patriciathestripper1 · 19/07/2017 22:19

Gp then Solicitor.
She shouldnt be In Business if she does that to people.

Itsfreetobekind · 19/07/2017 23:14

Hi PocketNiffler and Patricia.

I've heard back from her insurance and they have completely denied all responsibility as a first response.
The sequence of events and all the facts have been changed from their side. They claim she plugged in the heater and didn't do my face at whereas if you read my posts above, you'll know that's not what happened. I am livid. Why would I do this to myself?! And how can people be so dishonest?!

I have sent my responses to the lawyers and have yet to hear back.
It's been a few months now and I actually have a permanent mark on my face.

MaitlandGirl · 19/07/2017 23:27

I was thinking about you the other day, I'm so sorry that she's not being being more truthful.

TheCraicDealer · 19/07/2017 23:46

That's really standard- issue a denial and hope it goes away! But the fact that you've literally had skin ripped from your face (supported by a GP visit w/24hrs and photos) says it all and ties in with the allegation that the wax simply wasn't hot enough. Even if it was a reaction as she seems to allege, surely as a "trained professional" she should have realised your skin wasn't handling it and stopped, instead of continuing?

Your solicitors will advise you of what direction they want to go in now, but if it were me I'd be trying to think of one or two places I'd used before and seeing if they'd be willing to confirm in writing that they'd performed waxes on me previously with no ill effects.

I realise it's very hard to sit and basically hear someone else calling you a liar, but she's just covering her own arse. Try not to take it personally.

PocketNiffler · 20/07/2017 07:58

Sorry to hear she's being an arse and that the marks seem permanent. Do her texts to you support your claim she waxed your face? I hope your solicitors will be able to sort it out.

confusedandemployed · 20/07/2017 08:07

Just a thought, but if she's changing what actually happened to suit her story would this thread be useful as a contemporaneous record?

Itsfreetobekind · 20/07/2017 09:52

Oh I didn't mention the kicker last night:

I filled out a consultation form when she came over, just standard stuff, name and whether I had any illnesses, meds or allergies....
I've received a black & white scanned photocopy of it with the responses and a note has been added to the top of it to the effect that I have had a history of reactions and have still agreed to go forward with the treatment and also that she (therapist) has explained that changes in pregnancy hormones may cause effects.

This note was never written in my presence nor did she ever say anything to this effect. Heck, she didn't even know about sensitivity during pregnancy till I mentioned that pain receptors are usually more sensitive. And she blamed my previous mishap on my lack of knowledge on how to wax.

Mysteriously, my initials have appeared at the bottom of this new note followed by her signature and date!!

How's that for forgeries hey?

Thanks for thinking of me MaitlandGirl.
I do tend to take these things personally and was pretty much seeing stars when I got the insurance response TheCraicDealer. As for getting previous places, I've moved over here from overseas so I didn't have it done from anyone the UK till now. Granted I've been waxed all my life and never had this happen. In Dubai where I was before, women get waxed in every nook and cranny and don't look like accident victims for weeks after.

PocketNiffler yes my texts would said the areas I requested so hopefully that comes up. The complete twist of the events have had me just stunned at how far people will go to cover their own!

Confusedandemployed I had to look up with contemporaneous meant and I hope it does because this is pretty much still a blow by blow of what happened. I have provided the solicitors with a link ages ago, I hope they make use of it.

AndNowItIsSeven · 20/07/2017 10:03

Wow I hope she gets charged with fraud also.

TheCraicDealer · 20/07/2017 10:37

I think if she's done that and it's convincing enough then next step would normally be a medical- a consultant dermatologist would look at the photos, your GP notes, medical history and listens to your version of events and then takes a view on whether the injury is in line with what you've alleged.

I also really want to know what sort of "reaction"causes patches of skin to fall off instantaneously. She sounds like a real peach.

Itsfreetobekind · 27/07/2017 18:29

Tell me about it. It's been conveniently left out of the statements that this "reaction" is caused by injury to the skin.

It's just good ol' regular scabbing thankyouverymuch.

JustDontGetItAtAll · 27/07/2017 18:53

Jesus! What did your Solicitor say about their responses and her forgeries? X

Itsfreetobekind · 27/07/2017 21:17

JustDontGetItAtAll no response yet unfortunately. I'm hoping that means they're diligently following it up!

OP posts:
JustDontGetItAtAll · 27/07/2017 23:51

I admire your calm attitude. I'd be boiling over with rage. Still. Well done for not contacting her anymore and flipping your lid! X

MeanAger · 28/07/2017 00:12

Shock this is just appalling! I can't believe how low she has gone to wriggle out of this! Her insurance would have covered it, why didn't she just admit liability and have them pay out? It wouldn't have been out of her own pocket. I assume she is insured?

I am really struggling to understand why she unplugged her wax pot. Confused the wax has to stay at the right temperature which is controlled by the thermostat on the pot. I mean that is day 1, page 1 of waxing unit when you do your training. If you unplug it it cools down and is useless within minutes. I don't understand why she would do that.

ophiotaurus · 28/07/2017 00:20

That's awful she's obviously trying to cover her arse.
Can't believe she's amended and forged the form!!

PotOfYoghurt · 28/07/2017 00:37

That's atrocious. What sort of woman can knowingly do this to someone?

Windbeneathmybingowings · 28/07/2017 00:58

Just to say, OP that I once fucked up my upper lip with a home wax kit. I still don't know how, my technique was the same as always but I had similar result to you - the skin came off. I just used oil to keep it supple and once the scabs came off I wasn't left with any scarring. Although yours is far far worse than mine. Hope you heal fast and get an answer Flowers

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 14/08/2017 07:49

How are things going op?

Itsfreetobekind · 15/08/2017 13:58

Hi everyone. I've not heard back anything since my reply to the denials.
I'm hoping this means the lawyers are doing their best on my behalf. I may follow up soon, just been so busy with being pregnant and constantly tired!

Don't worry I'll definitely update here the moment I hear anything. I won't leave all you lovely people hanging. Your support has been wonderful. Thank you all.
