Very dull shoe question - people with low boredom thresholds required

I work in a very formal office and keep some pairs of skyscraper heels to wear there.

I need something to walk in for my commute (at least 2 x 10 minutes but often lots more depending on school run/errands, including hills, cobbles, grass) but not trainers because I frequently and unpredictably need to go to other offices or social events and travel home from there, so I need my commuting shoes to be adequately respectable.

In the winter I just wear riding boots with insoles which are perfect, but not in May. I currently have a pair of cheap fugly M&S footglove wedges which are showing their age. Does anyone have any suggestions for comfy supportive respectable-looking black leather work shoes? Cheap would be good but expensive is possible - both my knees and my feet are playing me up at the moment and need some TLC.

Camper
Naturista

Nice and also v supportive.

CaulkheadNorth · 05/05/2017 08:05

What are you wearing with them? Would brogues work (can be worn with black tights or trousers) or do you need more summery than that?

Maudlinmaud · 05/05/2017 08:07

Pavers? I needed practical shoes too with a bit of height and bought some low wedges from there on monday. They where not black though.

PragmaticWench · 05/05/2017 08:07

I was about to suggest wedge shoes, they're my compromise when I need to walk further than heels allow.

I'd look for something in leather for longevity, and add a leather insole if there isn't one already.

CormorantDevouringTime · 05/05/2017 08:10

I mostly wear skirts at the moment. I do possess several pairs of brogues from a trouser-wearing phase, so I should really try them on with a dress and see whether I can get away with it shouldn't I?

Clarks have black wedge shoes, not at all glamourous but look practical, would get you from a to b.

Jones do lots of walkable shoes or did. I've got a pair of loafers with comfy soles.

Geox are another brand - lots of styles from wedges to shoes, all really comfy. I've got a ballet pair of shoes from there very comfy that I wear to work. Not cheapest but seem to last. French friend with office manager job and feet needing support buys Geox too.

Clarks and m&s foot glove are also worth a look. All the Clarks shoes I've had are comfy and two friends swear by them for comfort.

Tods. Super comfy, smart and respectable

OCSockOrphanage · 05/05/2017 09:05

Some of the shoe style FitFlops are quite presentable.

Paul Green www.paulgreen-shop.de/en/womens-shoes/heel-high/
... the only heels that don't kill my knees despite being worn all day

OlennasWimple · 05/05/2017 15:39

Mostly quite dull shoes, but not completely, Gabor are pricey but comfortable and smart

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/05/2017 16:11

I've been playing basket dancing with the Geoxx ballet shoes for weeks now.

Otherwise, I'd just get something plain and fairly inoffensive from Clarks.

CormorantDevouringTime · 05/05/2017 16:23

The Dune ones are lovely but I'd destroy the satin within weeks which is not OK at that price.

I might try Clarks and Geox at the weekend.

I'm trying to get my head around skirts and brogues - there's no doubting it's sensible....

United Nude fold shoes. Made of what appears to be an industrial strength elastic and come in 3 heights. I can't wear heels for more than a few hours and certainly not walk any further than around the building at work, but I can easily get to and from work, including a walk up a steep hill in the mid height ones.

They come in many colours, not just black My current favourites are a lovely red

CaulkheadNorth · 05/05/2017 17:05

Skirts and brogues do work, and are quite "in" atm but does remind me of a librarian.

I wear fly London a lot, but they aren't to everyone's taste.

blodynmawr · 05/05/2017 17:55

I have these Clarks.

Dull but like walking on air and on the odd day where I need to be standing for the entire time, can go 12 hrs+ in them with not foot or calf pain.

Wow those are ugly. But my feet are swooning at the very sight of them...and they're leather and on special offer.

Not in any way pretty..I know..but SIL is a nurse..12 hour shifts on her feet..and all the nurses swear by these and buy them time after time because they are so comfortable.

CormorantDevouringTime · 05/05/2017 18:34

Bloody hell, I take back everything I said about blodynmawr's wedges.

Unless I take a radical career change into nursing and require more extreme comfort those Un-Loop's are definitely where I draw the line.
(But thanks for the suggestion anyway - I'm sure there are hundreds of lurkers looking over our shoulders in search of respectable comfortable shoes who'll find them just right).

Whilst I like brogues on others I look like a twat in them. What about loafers? am making no comment about the Clarks links

I have a pair of heeled brogues from Clarks that are super comfortable - Clarks generally are comfortable in my experience, even those with heels.

skyzumarubble · 05/05/2017 21:26

Clarks brogues, flat ones. I have a lovely pink suede summer pair with holes cut out of the sides. So bloody comfortable and they look good, I don't bother hanging into heels any more. I have a lot of hamble oaks.

Blazedandconfused · 05/05/2017 21:26

If you have a matalan near you, pop in. I only wear flats- knee issues. They have real leather, supportive soles in some lovely styles. Cheap too.
