Not the best photo but hope you'll get the gist of it- is a dark shimmery blue, almost French navy.

I'll be wearing it in October to DDs wedding, with silver sparkly low heeled sandals. I tend to wear either cropped/bolero or hip length cardies and soft jackets as I have fairly big boobs, a high waist and no bum- dress is ruched at the back which helps. Was thinking perhaps a silver grey something but not seen anything right yet. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Do you have a hat? TBH if you need one I'd find that before buying a cover up.

Rioja123 · 02/05/2017 22:00

A pashmina will look best I reckon

hooliodancer · 02/05/2017 22:01

You look fab in that!

Yes, a wrap or stole over it.

marriednotdead · 02/05/2017 22:12

Not wearing a hat, my hair is hard enough to manage!

The only thing about a stole/wrap/pashmina is that they tend to need to be held on- I want to be 'hands free' IYSWIM. I have a little beaded bag with a wrist strap. Hmm.

Thanks Hoolio, it was made for me without a proper pattern, she just made the best of my shape Smile

You can tie a pashmina at the back - the effect is wrapped sleeves and you're hands free. Do a google images search for 'pashmina tied behind back' and you'll see examples.

MrsLettuce · 02/05/2017 22:24

Yeah, wraps are hard work to wear. Bad enough for an evening but too much for me to stand for a whole day. Make me faff.

It's a beautiful dress, is the maker still about? I'd be very, very tempted to have her make a little jacket from the same fabric if that's be at all possible.

PickAChew · 02/05/2017 22:35

You can fix a shawl with a shawl pin or brooch. You can get some really pretty ones, like they have here.

She's very much still around and being kept busy.
I found the fabric myself after a lot of hunting but don't expect to see again- it was a year ago. Might be worth trying though.

How about a sort of brocade jacket made by your dressmaker? Maybe in silver.

marriednotdead · 02/05/2017 22:55

If I'm honest, I don't want to spend quite as much so ideally want to find something off the peg.
Hoping the dress may not date too quickly and can keep changing the accessories

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 02/05/2017 23:13

Yeah, that's understandable!

I love this but it might be a bit too glam/boxy
this would work as a cover up but no good for adding warmth
will have a better look

marriednotdead · 02/05/2017 23:29

Thanks MrsLettuce, love the first one but agree it is too square. Definitely want some warmth- having the same fun and games looking for something to go over DDs wedding dress!

How about a top?Maybe? this sort of idea

this for example, although it's maybe a bit long

MrsLettuce · 02/05/2017 23:35

x post.

bojorojo · 03/05/2017 00:47

It is difficult to turn an evening dress into a day dress. It just doesn't work
in my view. You could look for a little "fur" jacket for glamour. Or silver velvet maybe? Hats and long dresses are a bit odd so have a good hairdo. Alternatively, don't wear long.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 03/05/2017 07:06

OP, you look fabulous! Must you have a cover up at all?

SorrelForbes · 03/05/2017 07:08

I saw some really nice little silver shrug things in Monsoon at the weekend.

Fur bolero

marriednotdead · 03/05/2017 19:58

Sorry, been at work.

Bojo The wedding is mid afternoon in autumn so it will be dark within 2-3 hours, the reception and ceremony are in the same place. I wasn't aiming for a day look and trust me, I will not be overdressed! Silver velvet sounds doable though, will have a scout round Smile

Lady Thank you. I'm a wimp who gets cold so something I can keep on would be ideal. We did look into putting sleeves on the dress originally but it didn't work.

Sorrel Will investigate!

Euphemia Sadly not, it was a venue Grin

Master Think it would be too warm/bulky to keep on.

Nancy Mac do some lovely little velvet jackets. Might this count as silver?

marriednotdead · 03/05/2017 20:31

That's a lovely jacket but I think it may be too long. The more I look at it, the more I'm verging towards cropped and lightweight. The dress is so fitted on my skinny bum that anything structured or loose will just make me look like a rugby player.

getdressednow · 03/05/2017 20:40

Would something like this work, but more silvery?
