Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Pupsie re hair; I'm ignoring it in the hope it'll grow more to get my attention. 🤔 Not sure it's worked yet.

Seriously though, it's just been pinned up and in a ponytail all week as I've been at home and doing some diy bits when I can. Haven't tried styling it or anything but will have to next week, might try waving it. Think I'll try out a Redken heat cure mask tomorrow.

EnidButton · 11/05/2017 01:53

Good luck Olli FlowersCake

Ollivander84 · 11/05/2017 05:58

Thanks. Praying I don't get bumped off the list today!

VictoriaandBump · 11/05/2017 07:13

Thanks for the advice re retinol Olli. In the past I've used Cerave as a buffering layer for retinol in the same way you describe. Useful reminder about needing dry skin, I'm inpatient so tend to slap things on immediately! Wishing you the best of luck today.

Bo I've been reading a bit more about the Ordinary 1% and the research does seem to suggest there is little benefit to using such high strengths. I've used the PC Resist retinol serum which I really liked but can't afford to repurchase right now. I've also used retin a 0.025, but I'm uncomfortable with buying again as I think buying it off eBay is a bit dodgy! Do you know of any cheapish retinol products? Otherwise I think I'll try the Ordinary 2% retinoid a go, which contrary to its name seems to contain less retinol than the 1%!

Nickpic you're skin looks much improved already! Pupsiecola you look fab, looks like it was worth every penny.

Ollivander84 · 11/05/2017 07:42

I switched to the 1% as wasn't really seeing results from the 2% and wanted to try it. Seems to be individual, some people have got on really well with the 2%

Pupsiecola · 11/05/2017 07:49

Bo does the Poppy Austin Vit C look any good?

Good luck Olli x Cake

JDSTER · 11/05/2017 08:35

All the best olli
vic I would suggest the 2% retinoid from TO as a good safe bet. It's less irritating than the 1% but since you've used retinol before I'm not sure you'll see any major results. I'm using 2% one but will be looking to upgrade to an alternative

Pupsiecola · 11/05/2017 11:12

Has anyone had any treatment for thread veins?

wiltingfast · 11/05/2017 13:51

@botemp The dosage recommended for ALA was 600mg x 2!!

And inositol was 2g x 2 Smile

Would be v interested if anyone has had thread vein treatment. Am thinking it might help my red cheeks... though skin is calmer looking now I've given up on TO map and am just spot treating with the TO alpha arbutin.

Dulcimena · 11/05/2017 17:27

Vic further to TO retinoid conversations, the 1% is retinol, the 2% is retinoids. They're actually different ingredients rather than comparable strengths. The 2% is formulated to be less irritating but I think Deciem claim it gives better results.

Wowsers. Well done Olli!

Can someone please remind me of the SF cleansing ritual? I can't find my notes on it. Thank you!

EnidButton · 11/05/2017 18:11

4 hours in surgery??! Shock Jeez! I hope you're feeling ok now. Not too much pain. FlowersFlowers

JDSTER · 11/05/2017 18:11

Ahh glad you're ok olli and maintaining a skin care routine Grin
pupsie do you mean 50 shades of snail one?

Ollivander84 · 11/05/2017 18:14

I have a side room with a sink so I'm happy! They've discovered my love of tea and are bringing it two mugs at a time
Little sore but manageable

olderthanyouthink · 11/05/2017 18:21

Glad your good, Olli and Grin at your tea and skincare.

working925 · 11/05/2017 18:22

I love this thread but can someone just sum up which products I should buy. I am 45, combination skin, wrinkles and broken veins appearing fast. I need to stop this ageing thing! Please someone advise what works. Thanks so much.

olderthanyouthink · 11/05/2017 18:28

Hi working, I'm a noob but I'm guessing someone's going to say La Roche-Posay Toleraine cleanser and SPF (more specific than that, I can't really help).
Also fill in the form in the OP, is doesn't take long and it helps people give you suggestions.

EnidButton · 11/05/2017 18:55

You need to fill in the mini questionnaire thing on the first page Working. It covers all the bits needed to work out what'll be good for you. Cake

Olli A side room is always good, I hate wards. The nurses sound nice. BrewBrew

Ollivander84 · 11/05/2017 18:58

I am not listing what I had for tea Blush they had extra so I've had double portions of everything and it was so good!

Treeballarae · 11/05/2017 19:38

Just catching up....

Olli glad the op went well

Bo thank you, yes Mumset should have a rewards system in place for drawing members in! I am happy to share my notes with you, they are hand written on paper though, not electronic. I could start typing them up, it will take me a while to do that but I could send them on as and when. How best to get them to you after that? Can I attach documents to PMs? I'm afraid my technical knowledge of things like that is poor.

Mint you asked about the collection concealer I think, I have it and I have 1 Fair (I am very pale, alabaster in Bobbi Brown) and it's nice for the price. I use it under my eyes - I have purple/blue circles and it has brightening effect but it does tend to settle in my lines because it is thick and I have to make sure I've moisturised well underneath or it looks awful.

otyt yes the samples are dangerous, I thought I'd just do it once, but I received my third month's samples this morning.

User I'd be interested to hear what you use from the Tarte and IT cosmetics lines as I am tempted by those brands too. Someone had said the Tarte line is quite perfumed and so I wonder if I'd get on with that as perfume in make up makes my eyes stream.

If off to have a think about my Empties, Trials and Planned Purchases.

Shop · 11/05/2017 20:12

Glad it went well Olli Flowers

Mint the collection concealer isn't great, it doesn't go fair enough for me and tends to settle in lines, not sure why it has such good reviews perhaps if you're not very pale and don't have lines it ok, I love the bourgeois radiance one though, absolutely brilliant.

olderthanyouthink · 11/05/2017 20:39

Are these the collection concealers? The labels gone on mine but I think they are.

They were ok but the best part was that they are about the only cheap concealer that was a half decent match for my "ethnic" skin #everydayracism.

They lightened my under eyes and hid red spots a bit but they will not cover love bites very well... especially very obvious ones one your face Blush

Shop · 11/05/2017 20:46

I think so otyt that's what mine looks like now!

Ollivander84 · 11/05/2017 20:56

I like the collection illuminating touch which is under eye. Slightly orange coloured so neutralises purple/blue circles
