I have finally given up and ...

bought clothing from the local market!

I got a pair of knee high stripey socks, with purple and black stripes, and Jolly Rogers on them. (Ok, DS1 helped pick!) They are much more comfy than I thought, and fit fine, so I might get some more sometime - I figure I can wear them with the long shorts I have, rather than wearing tights or leggings underneath.

And I got an empire-waistish sort of top with a nice high neck, and a lovely loud Pucci-esque print. Very pretty.

do you wear an eyepatch and carry a sword aswell ?

expatinscotland · 10/03/2007 22:48

Are you drunk?

simplycontrolfreaky · 10/03/2007 22:49

blimey nockney...... are you sure those socks are allowed on a STYLE thread??

Nockney · 10/03/2007 22:49

Who are you asking, expat?

I'm certainly not drunk.

OP posts:
Nockney · 10/03/2007 22:50

I'm not sure I'm allowed on a Style thread, never mind the socks, tbh.

Um, what sort of knee high socks are stylish then? With long shorts? In cold weather?

OP posts:
brimfull · 10/03/2007 22:51

How long are these shorts?

brimfull · 10/03/2007 22:52

How long are these shorts?

fishie · 10/03/2007 22:52

unless they are ankle length this is going to be a very distinctive look.

Nockney · 10/03/2007 22:53

Somewhere between 'just below knee' and 'ankle length'.

OP posts:
Nockney · 10/03/2007 22:53

Sorry, between 'just below knee' and 'mid-calf'. Not ankle, nowhere near.

that was a bit mean of me. i am a bit jealous actually, i love socks and have an enormous drawer devoted to them. what shoes though?

brimfull · 10/03/2007 22:58

Then boots would look better imo,or thick dark socks that go over the knee.
But I am sure the stripey ones look great-do they really have jolly rogers on them?

Nockney · 10/03/2007 22:59

Trainers. I am always in trainers - I bike or walk everywhere, so girl shoes aren't much of an option. (I own one pair of boots, purple DMs, and they aren't comfortable. Oh, and hiking boots, but I'm guessing they're not quite what you meant?)

Yes, they really have Jolly Rogers on them. Purple and black horizontal stripes, with big white Jolly Rogers. They cost £2, 3 pairs for £5. If they wash ok, I will go buy three mixed pairs next week.

Nockney · 10/03/2007 23:00

Oh, these probably will cover my knees, which is good, as I don't really want to have to shave my legs until summer.

Nockney, we bought bikes today.

Thats all over and out.

brimfull · 10/03/2007 23:01

Can see a new trend staring ,I'm ordering mine now!

Nockney · 10/03/2007 23:03

Ah, I knew you'd see sense.

Sherlock, bikes - so for you, your DS and DH? Planning on biking locally? Or what?

fishie · 10/03/2007 23:04

which market, roman road? i may send dp for some (his stuido in bg).

simplycontrolfreaky · 10/03/2007 23:05

are you channeling sue pollard nockney????

Flamesparrow · 10/03/2007 23:07

They sound great

Nockney · 10/03/2007 23:07

Who is Sue Pollard? I'll do a search (I'm not British.)

Yes, Roman Road market - the sock guy is on the left hand side, I think right after the old African guy with the plantain etc. Socks are hanging up on left side of his stall - he also has hats etc I think. I was afraid they'd be only fit for 12-year-old girls, but they fit me fine, and I'm a healthy size 16. (I'm sure they'd fit someone smaller, they are v stretchy.)

OP posts:
Nockney · 10/03/2007 23:08

Hmmm, I'm not sure that was an entirely kind reference there ... my glasses are definately nicer than Su Pollard's anyway ...

Yes, the local forest has bike paths, and once DS is proficient we will venture further afield.

Ds's bike is just a tiny bit to big for him, about a month or so should do it. But in comparison to the rubbish he was on this afternoon, sans stabilisers it is soooooooooo heavy.

I am going to buy a tag-a-long attachment so when he is tired, we can tag him on.

My longterm plan is to take him to school a lá the tag-a-long through the park on my day off.

I can dream can't I ????

Nockney · 10/03/2007 23:10

How far is school?

The tag-a-long thing is great, you can go through heavy traffic with no real fears (ok, other than your child falling off - but my DS1 has never done this, and he's been on the back of the bike since he was four, I think).
