Sort of tight underneath the scar and chubby above

I think it's down to the level of skill involved. I had an emergency section and my tummy is perfect, is as if it never happened, apart from a very tiny hardly noticeable scar.

JaceLancs · 08/04/2017 21:56

2 c sections 26 and 25 years ago and hysterectomy 15 years ago
I have no feeling at all below navel and a noticeable overhang
My weight has varied between size 8 and 20 and it doesn't make any difference
Currently a size 14 and trying to get back to a 10 - wish I could afford surgery

chloechloe · 08/04/2017 22:00

loopyhead the bigger ribcage is definitely a thing - I think it's because all your internal organs get squashed upwards by the baby making your ribcage widen. I think that's the price I had to pay for two tiny baby bumps!

ShowOfHands · 08/04/2017 22:22

I am a size 8, exercise each day, have a good 6 pack.

I also have an overhang and a too tight scar from 2 emcs. The lower bit of my abdomen will never change without surgery.

It's pure luck I think.

I've had 2 csections. I have a big overhang and it looks pretty awful. But I've just got used to it. Not many people have to look at me naked.

Oblomov17 · 08/04/2017 22:29

Yes. 2 later and my stomach will never recover.

doggydaft · 08/04/2017 22:55

I have had 2 sections, one emergency under general anaesthetic and 1 elective. 17 and 15 years ago.
My scar is very small and low down but my stomach is a mess. I have a fair sized "apron" and a lot of stretch marks. I'm not particularly overweight (5ft 5, size 10-12) but I never tuck anything in and need to wear spanx type underwear under dresses.
I always wear big knickers as smaller ones get stuck under my overhang and cause irritation.

To be honest I've just learned to live with it but would definitely have a tummy tuck if someone was giving them away on the NHS Grin Grin

Flowerydems · 08/04/2017 22:55

Yep

elephantcuddles · 08/04/2017 23:57

Omg. That sounds awful but I can't help but lol 😂

elephantcuddles · 08/04/2017 23:58

My reply was in response to bialy btw

Allthebubbles · 09/04/2017 07:48

Two sections here but I think it was my second pregnancy with less resilient already stretched skin that has led to overhang, my scar is lower.
After my first pregnancy my stomach was ok-ish, at about 8 1/2 months pregnant with my second my baby must have done a flip or something and I was horrified to see a flap of skin at the bottom of my bump. I think as I looked at that I knew it was never going to spring back. I think now my stomach looks better naked when I'm heavier when I lost weight it looked a lot saggier.

Middleoftheroad · 09/04/2017 07:52

Yes
11 yrs on and I still have a stomach that only a baby marsupiel could love

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 09/04/2017 08:03

1 EMCS - scar invisible under pubes and flat above and below (the rest of the stomach is not as flat as it was due to a combination of menopause and sugar.

LardLizard · 10/04/2017 06:31

Thanks for the replies
So varied and sounds like down to lots of things like skill and luck and what your skin is like

I'm also wondering if the lower down the scar the more likely it is to be flat as mine isnt as low as some people's

Pregnancy often does widen the ribcage, it depends on the size of the baby, but mainly on how small your lower ribs are. My ribcage at the bra band was 25" and I hence I had a 23" waist. I am still narrow where my bra band is but my ribs had to stretch out at the bottom to accomodate a baby, so now even if I lost weight, which I do need to do , i would never have such a tiny waist again as my ribs are more splayed. If you are narrow-ribbed then it is likely your waist and lower will get wider after pregnancy. If you are slightly wider ribbed then you might not change at all.

I do agree with the pp who said that the skill of the surgeon makes a difference. My friend had a jagged first c-section scar (emergency), but at the second one the surgeon said he had made a neater scar and structured everything so that she would have a better result, and she did. I had the opposite experience, annoyingly, a very good surgeon the first time, and a mess of a scar, plus shelf, the second.
