Sandals like Saltwater but not Saltwater

I am looking for sandals that have Saltwater uppers but proper comfortable soles. Do these exist????

OP posts:
bingohandjob · 02/04/2017 20:47

I've got Saltwater sandals - I'm really heavy on shoes and really bloody fussy about comfort. They are FAR more comfortable than they look. Have tromped about in them every summer for last three years..no blisters, they still look like new and, I think, look lovely with loads of summer gear and with jeans. I love them.

Firstaidnovice · 02/04/2017 21:13

This thread has just prompted me to look for a new pair for this summer. Has anyone tried the new slide style? Debating between those and the rose gold ones....

cuirderussie · 02/04/2017 22:59

Must add, I have shite feet as well, bunions, flat, wide. All the more amazing that Saltwaters suit me. Give them a whirl OP Grin

marriednotdead · 02/04/2017 23:20

The Toms Fairylea mentioned are called Zoe. A colleague wears them after struggling with the stiffer sole of the Saltwaters.

LBOCS2 · 02/04/2017 23:52

I've just seen on FB that Toms have bought out a wedge. I can't decide if it's the solution to all my wedge based problems (I can be a touch on the ambitious side when it comes to height) or if they're just an odd size/height and will just be like clumping about on a paving stone.

Also, now I want rose gold Saltwaters to go with my extensive Birkenstock collection. 🙄

Rinceoir · 02/04/2017 23:56

Also fussy about shoes- saltwater are the only sandals I've ever loved. I walked all day in them last summer and never felt uncomfortable. However I think Birkenstocks are torture devices. I get the worst blisters in them, both on sole and top of my feet.

MirandaWest · 03/04/2017 00:00

I have two pairs of saltwaters and love them. Have happily walked all over New York in them.

oobedobe · 03/04/2017 00:28

I have saltwaters and they are pretty comfortable, though not sure I would do a full day's sightseeing in them.

A couple of years ago I got some like this, they are very soft leather and a moulded footbed so more like a walking/action sandal but nicer looking. They have lasted really well too.

Not sure how easy they are to find in the UK though.

eyespydreams · 03/04/2017 10:06

Salt waters are bizarrely insanely comfortable! Just getting two new pairs as the last pair looking v scruffy as worn endlessly in London. Everyday for about 6 months, bliss.

AteRiri · 03/04/2017 12:50

I agree with Saltwater. I also had doubts, which was why I resisted for so long. But when I finally did, I was surprised they were so, as eyespydreams say, insanely comfortable.

I have wide size US10 feet.

NevermetaGilesIlike · 03/04/2017 13:11

Yokono ones are good-supportive but not as clumpy as Birkenstocks

Mrs9C · 03/04/2017 19:44

Saltwaters are comfy, the only time I've had issues with them is when walking on pavements all day..they did hurt then! Gave me blisters on the soles of my feet. If you have feet that need support they will probably not be the best, as they are completely flat. The soles are hard (but flexible) though, so you do not feel every stones thought them.

LaPampa · 04/04/2017 23:16

Another vote for saltwaters being most comfortable sandals. I trek all over London in them and wear them all day and the sole (or raised stitching) has never bothered me. I just bought the rose gold slides and they are lovely. I've now got 3 pairs in different colours and then first pair from 6 years ago is still wearable.

DelphiniumBlue · 04/04/2017 23:20

Those Taos sandals look great and also comfy. Do you know if they come up reasonably wide?

user1471583707 · 05/04/2017 07:51

I have the clashes Tustin linked to above in tan
They look similar but have a cushioned sole so they are amazingly comfy and I got them in the sale in July for £20!

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2017 07:58

I bought a pair of saltwaters a couple of weeks ago, I haven't walked miles in them but they are comfy, the sole is thin but solid and the uppers are soft. Unless you're walking for miles over rough terrain I'd say they would be fine. These are mine. Love them.

Bluntness100 wish I'd seen your post last night! I placed an order for these slider style, I'm a UK5, my normal saltwaters are a 5 (printed 5 on the sole), and the size guide I printed off the site suggested I order a 5 so I did....but the blurb said to size up, and suggested a 5 was actually a UK4....what do you think??!!

Haffiana · 05/04/2017 09:53

Saltwaters give me cracked heels if I wear them for several days running. I prefer a more cushioned sole.

Mrs9C · 05/04/2017 10:00

They crack my heels too Shock when worn a few days running. Maybe all sandals would, not sure.

Still searching for comfy sandals...

TanteJeanne · 05/04/2017 19:55

I like Birkies but you cannot beat Fitflops for comfort and choice of styles. You just can't. You can wear their sandals all day long from the very first wear and they are super comfortable. Saltwater look like they have relatively thin soles

dotandstripe · 05/04/2017 20:16

I found Saltwaters not great and sold mine on eBay... Mostly the problem for me was feeling my feet slid around in them because the inner sole is so smooth - I don't think my feet are particularly sweaty but on hot days I definitely had that problem. And on rainy days, obviously, even though they are meant to be designed for wet conditions. And also the lack of cushioning because I mostly live in trainers and stompy boots in the winter.

My favourite sandals are from Art. I also have Birkies.

HopefulHamster · 05/04/2017 20:51

You often need a size up from what the sole says. I am a 4.5 and buy the fives but if I was 5 I would want to at least try the 6. The issue is if the shop is clear whether you're buying the number on the bottom or the uk size!

BLONDIEMUMMY · 05/04/2017 21:03

I have 5 pairs and adore them! They're the only summer shoe for me, they've seen me through LEGOland whilst pregnant, park trips, beach trips all sorts! Very comfortable despite the look of the sole. I'd urge anyone to try a pair. Though, buy trough saltwater directly as their customer services are great, buy through another stockist it's not so good.
