Colour consultation is it worth it?

Ive been thinking about having a colour consultation with either Colour Me Beautiful or House of Colour - has anyone done this if so what did you think?

Are they one to one consultations (it looks like it with HOC but cannot decide with CMB)

Has anyone used a Berkshire consultant?

Yes, it's very worth it. Totally changed the colours I use and effects the clothes I choose - hopefully in a good way though those who know me might disagree!

danceswithnewboots · 07/03/2007 17:38

Do they advise on make-up and hair colour too or just what you should wear?

twojags · 07/03/2007 17:39

Nope - had mine done and didn't actually like any of the colours that are supposed to suit me!
Sorry can't learn to love bright turquoise just because it is supposed to bring out the colour of my hair

TenaLady · 07/03/2007 17:41

Well, it sounds a good idea, how much, how long does it take?

iris66 · 07/03/2007 17:43

Don't know CMB but HOC do colour of make up/hair too and style of clothing (for instance, loose & gypsy & flowery or fitted & block coloured)based on your personality/lifestyle. I've only had the colour bit done (it's quite expensive)but it's saved me a fortune in clothes that don't go with anything. HTH

I did one years ago, and I think it's worth it. Certain colours may drain your skin tone completely. Although I'd always known that browns look good on me, it was a surprise that I can also wear certain oranges, reds and pinks (I'm a redhead). Although I've lost my swatch now, I still go out shopping looking at colours more than anything else.

hugeheadofhair · 07/03/2007 17:48

And yes, miraculously all the colours go together!

Who was it who got bought their session at last minute dot com? How do you know where it will be?

SoMuchToBits · 07/03/2007 19:00

I've had mine done with CMB and thoroughly recommend it. I never buy things in the "wrong " colours now, and it makes it much easier to choose stuff and see how to put things together.

They do makeup advice and style consultations, but not as part of the colours, you have to book them up extra (although they can all be done on the same day IYSWIM).

It's a really nice thing to do to feel a bit pampered, and then of course you can go and treat yourself to some new clothes in your new colours (if you've got any money left!)

One of the best things I found was it encourage me to try colours I might not have thought of wearing before.

Skyler · 07/03/2007 19:04

I had mine done by CMB and it was def money well spent. It has given me confidence when I go shopping. I thought it was so good I actually went the whole hog and asked for the make up and one of the scarfs from them for Christmas. Mine was one on one with CMB, but you can get friends together if you want. I really enjoyed an hour all about ME!!

RubberDuck · 07/03/2007 19:08

I loved mine - had it done a couple of years ago now. Is great to be able to choose clothes that you know will suit you (I had the style consultation as well as the colour consultation).

Had no money to buy clothes afterwards, but hey ... can't have everything

GRUMPYGIRL · 07/03/2007 19:46

Far from the days when id spend hours going round the shops for clothes, I now have to rush in & panic buy in the very little spare time I have.

I figure if I can discount a % of the shop because it is not in MY colours then hopefully I should start to get SOME success with this style of shopping!

I had it done last week and also think it was the best money dh ever spent . He ordered it through lastminute.com for cmb and then they emailed me a list of consultants so i could choose the one closer to me. It included make up and clothes colours. Even though it's only been a week shopping is already so much easier!! I can tell in a few seconds if there's anything that suits me or not and not spend money in things that not only don't suit me but also don't match with each other. Of course there will be colours in your palette you won't like. I also have turquoise and hate it as well as royal blue and true purple and forest green and many other yucky ones but I can see now that pastels and faded tones are wrong for me and I can just avoid them and look fab!!

Bucketsofdynomite · 08/03/2007 11:02

Really useful, at the very least it will reinforce your natural tendencies and give you confidence to try something new. I'm a winter too Tugamummy so was pleased to be finally vindicated about why I always hated my Brownie uniform!

I had mine with ColourMeBeautiful but her kit was a little outdated, some of the hot pinks were very Howard's Way!

LaCerbiatta · 08/03/2007 11:55

Well Buckets, unlike you I'm a brown lover and therefore half of my wardrobe will have to go... At least I can still wear dark brown... Are you cool or warm?

GRUMPYGIRL · 08/03/2007 12:18

I have just found out there is a House of Colour consultant about 5 minutes from my house. Only thing Im worried about was on their website they talk about an annual clothes budget for £1-2000 pa - which makes me wonder (as she does classes rather than 1-1s) will all the others be 50something ladies who lunch?
