Colour consultation is it worth it?

Ive been thinking about having a colour consultation with either Colour Me Beautiful or House of Colour - has anyone done this if so what did you think?

Are they one to one consultations (it looks like it with HOC but cannot decide with CMB)

Has anyone used a Berkshire consultant?

Not being funny Annie but some people in the fashion industry wear things because they are "fashionable" rather than they look good in them!

No bad thing to know what suits you and go for it...despite fashion.

Look at some people who work in trendy clothes shops some of them look a complete dogs dinner.

Why are they anti it? Fashion industry as in designers or shops?
I bought a lipstick off my consultant and it was great - poor lipstick choice is the thing I am most scared of stylewise.
What have you got to lose? Lots of people would be prepared to spend the same amount having their palm read which gives them nothing concrete for their money . Ask for vouchers this mothers day.

They are probably anti it because it means that you cant wear "this seasons IN colour" personally I rather not if it made me look jaundiced!

I dont think your 20 stoner in lycra leggins is going for colour consultation though do you?

I guess I know what shapes suit me, or more to the point what to avoid. I just wonder if im avoiding some colours which I COULD wear because I am unsure (and there is no one in the world who could tell me not to wear black and get me to listen - LOL)

Well, CMB now have 6 groups and within each 2, so that's 12 in total. I think you're bound to fit into one of those. Also I think there's yet another subcathegory I'm not too sure about. For example I was told I'm deep and cool and also bright, which means I suit dark colours, not colours with yellow tones and bright colours, as opposed to muted. So there might be even more than 12 groups. Also the consultant I saw was really flexible and told me that if there was something I really liked or wanted to wear I just had to make sure there was a 'good' colour next to it. For example pale colours are not in my palette, but I can wear them as long as it's not on its own as a block colour next to my face.
As for black (which luckily is one of my best colours ), if you have a look at the CMB book it shows how all groups can wear black, even if it's not in their palette, by mixing with other colours or softening down with black and white, so it's not restrictive at all.

Bucketsofdynomite · 08/03/2007 18:40

You can wear what you like, just some are not so good near your face. I don't think many people would bin half their wardrobe just because a CMB lady told them to (unless she was very bossy.)
I've never actually noticed colour changes in high street shops. I'm sure nobody would find there was nothing out there in their best colours.

I know it's not random, should hope not with the amount of money flying around the top end! Just that I've never had a problem finding the right colours for me, esp after being CMB'd.

Oh yes there are definately colours that are "in" and ones that you cant get for love nor money. I know what to avoid like the plague and always find it really annoying when they are deemed to be "in" and the shops are full of them!

With regard to decorating how many of us succumbed to day glo orange or neon lime a few years ago, at the moment everything seems to be "neutral" and I am shocked by the fact that the 70s woolly checked sofas are BACK in the Argos cataloge!!

Tugamommy - I am the same colouring as you, deep and cool and bright . I also agree with what you said about how you can wear colours that don't suit by mixing them with the ones that do or keeping them away from your face. There is a huge range of colours in the palatte too and personally I would rather not wear a colour just because it was fashionable if I knew it wouldn't suit me (like that funny greeny yellow that was filling up Wallis recently)
Having said all that I would also like a friend like yours Anniemac to sort my wardrobe out
