Balayage

Has anyone had this? I've always had foil highlights but am considering this for a more natural look. I'd you've had it done have you been pleased with the results?

Yes I thought dip dye too originally! I think my hairdresser's been trying to talk me into this for ages so I'm hopeful she knows what she's doing with it. I have a colour appointment booked for next month. Going to go for it!

RedMetamorphosis · 19/03/2017 17:58

Autumn - balayage is hand painted, no foils etc. Gives a much more natural look that grows out, as opposed to a straight line.

Yours looks lovely Davethecat. What happens if the brown begins to fade though? Whenever i get brown dye it fades and goes brassy. I dont know if they could put tint over balyage. I'm seriously tempted after seeing yours though.

hollieberrie · 19/03/2017 18:41

I really want to do this. I have slightly stripy growing out blonde highlights though... Blush
Do you think i need to grow them out for a while before a hairdresser could do balayage?

Susiethetortoiseshellcat · 19/03/2017 18:47

Excited now! Definitely want to do it. I can post a photo once I've had it done.

Yes please Susie! Smile

Thank you user. So far the brown has stayed true, although I have only washed my hair a couple of times since having it done. The colourist said the lighter bits may look lighter as the toner wears off, but so far it all looks the same as when he first did it. I notice that there is still a hue of the old red there in parts, but I'm not surprised given what I have heard about red being a bugger to get rid of!

The thing I think is going to be a pain for me is the amount of grey I have now, it's going to look very obvious as it grows through so I ma going to have to invest in having the roots touched up every 4-6 weeks or so.

hollie I think balayage would work on previous highlights, in fact it might help blend them in so as your hair grows it doesn't look stripy. Just make sure you find a good recommended colourist smile

My hair took nearly 6 hours and cost me £212!!! Eye watering I know but worth it as I am really happy with it.

Look at Samantha Cusick on Instagram, the most gorgeous balayage creations. Unfortunately I'm nowhere near London.

Ffswtf · 19/03/2017 21:51

Another fan here! Been colouring my hair for years but was getting to be a chore going every 6 weeks. Wish I'd had balayage done sooner in all honesty. My hair looks healthier, and I love the new look. And it costs a lot less time and money to maintain.

aniceearlynight · 19/03/2017 21:58

Used to have it and loved the look and the speed of having it done (no faffing with fouls) but now I am about 35-40% grey (and v grey around hairline) and am my hairdresser suggested that I go back to highlights to blend in the greys. Highlights don't have to look stripy - just depends on who does it.

aniceearlynight · 19/03/2017 21:58

Foils, not fouls! 😳

Glossolalia · 19/03/2017 22:14

Rastel38 I've just checked out her instagram Shock really good work on there! I think I might book an appointment with her.

OneSockOn · 19/03/2017 22:26

I love this look, and asked my hairdresser last time. She said I would need a colour correction treatment first, which I was surprised at. My hair is mid brown a semi all over, with a few red highlights underneath. Last time I did colour correction it really damaged my hair.

Blankscreen · 19/03/2017 22:41

Yes I went fpr a balayage about 15 months amd not looked back. So much nicer and my husband says sexier.

I've got blonde tones ams it is pretty similar to the picture posted up thread.

Definiteltu looks good messy- sea salt spray is good ams doesn't make it greasy.

Rastel38 · 20/03/2017 07:11

Glossolalia Look at the work of Konstantino's on Insta too. He works at her salon and is also amazing.

I'm not sure how well the colour comes out in these pics but here is mine. I asked to it to be really subtle and natural for which I think it is.

Looks great Tartle

rosybell · 20/03/2017 15:35

I spontaneously booked an appointment for balayage and a trim tomorrow. Now worrying my hair isn't suitable! It is mid / mousy brown, a pretty straight. All photos I have seen are of luscious long waves. I just like the idea of natural low maintenance colour..

JamesDelaneysHat · 20/03/2017 15:55

I'm planning to have it done on my straightish hair, rosybell. Which is highlighted at moment but naturally mousy brown. Talk to your hairdresser, I'm sure they'll put your mind at rest.

JamesDelaneysHat · 20/03/2017 15:57

Tartle's above doesn't look overly wavy? Looks great though!

Mominatrix · 20/03/2017 15:59

I've always had this done to my hair - it is straitish and very thick. I only have to have it done 2x a year and there are no obvious roots.

Tartle · 23/03/2017 11:29

Bit late to reply but my hair is pretty straight and I think it works. Would love to see pics of other posters if you've decided to take the plunge.

PonderLand · 23/03/2017 13:14

I'm hoping to get it done with a lob, it looks so much nicer than the usual highlights!
