Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether previous threads are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Oo yes, I am here and yes I have been giddy with excitement over new horse, as bo so aptly put it...will pop back shortly

miffy2 · 29/03/2017 16:01

Lego I tried too and got the same error. My google translate won't translate that page so I am stuck. :(

RubyGoat · 29/03/2017 17:25

Miffy - apparently Google Chrome has an auto-translation feature which may help. You just right-click on the page. I'm not sure if I'm entering my address incorrectly, if it's an issue with Amazon Pay, or it's a compatibility issue with my tablet (suspect not as we've tried it on my phone, little laptop & DH's big laptop as well - no luck). I also can't get the PayPal icon (or any other payment options) to appear when I open the basket, & the international postage won't add on (it should do it automatically). I've emailed Mussler so we'll see what they come back with.

Meanwhile I'm going to order the COSrx BHA instead. For my annoying nose.

I've tried the Hibiscrub for my back. Early days yet, but at least I can confidently say it's not irritating my skin with daily use. It's not too expensive & a little goes a long way.

Skinfulnappies46 · 29/03/2017 17:40

Just thought I'd mention that I am hailing the Lush ultralbland cleanser as a miracle product. I had a dreadful area of eczema on my hand for many months which had not responded to nothing, not even creams prescribed by GP. I bought the Lush cleanser and just took a notion to rub a little onto my hand. Low and behold I felt immediate relief from other itching...it just felt soothing and sank in nicely. Within 3 days of applying it maybe 3/4 times per day( just a little) it had cleared up completely. I also used it on a dry area on 3 year old dds chin and again, it cleared up over 2 days.

Hi wheat, I'm not one of the clever ones on this thread, I just follow to learn so no advice for you sorry. But whilst you wait for someone far more knowledgeable than me to get back to you, have you read the cheat sheets that bo created and linked to upthread? If not, might be worth a read just to get an idea for how your routine might need to look Smile

mintmagnummm · 31/03/2017 06:39

Where is everyone on this thread?? It seems to have gone a bit stale for want of a better word!

Tsmummy08 · 31/03/2017 07:30

Mint I guess people are happy with their skin at the moment - or busy! And I've been diverted by work and one of my other hobbies - nails... The ones on the ends of your fingers, not the ones you hammer into things Grin Lots of practising acrylics, deciding what hard gel system to try next and looking at impossibly complicated nail art!!

I won't offer advice again, only my opinion/experience, unless it's v general i.e. use SPF year round, especially if using actives.

Tsmummy08 · 31/03/2017 07:52

Well here's a question, slightly OT maybe: is anyone else going through the perimenopause at the moment and how has it affected your skin?

I've figured out that a range of symptoms probably means that I'm perimenopausal - feeling hotter at night (and sometimes during the day), insomnia (different pattern - I can't get to sleep whereas it used to be waking in the middle of the night), irregular, heavier periods, increased anxiety/irritability that extends beyond normal PMT, v slight weight gain etc. Went to my GP this week and she wasn't helpful, just said "well yes, your hormones are probably changing". I'm 44 in a couple of months.

I'm wondering whether a reduced oestrogen level may also be responsible for the reduced volume and increased dryness/crepeyness of my skin in the last year or so?

RubyGoat · 31/03/2017 08:08

I think Botemp may have something on at the moment, she mentioned being a bit busy a few days ago. Hope that's all it is & she is ok.

I hope mussler are able to reply to my email - I sent it in English as my German is not nearly good enough...

Ollivander84 · 31/03/2017 08:22

I'm here, I'm just on morphine so a bit... Hazy? Grin

MarjorySunshineDust · 31/03/2017 08:53

Hope no one minds me jumping in, I've read the first thread and a half and have picked up some great tips already!

My question is about Clinique City Block. I have been using this for years (spf40) and love it but wondering now if it is good enough. I'm using it as a morning moisturiser and spf in one. Is this ok or should I look for something else? I tried LRP anthelios last summer (the light one) and didn't really like it, think it gave me spots. Am considering Biore watery essence. My skin is dehydrated but can be spot prone, particularly around period. Just worried I'm not protecting my skin enough, I'm 33 and getting lines on my forehead (must grow my fringe back!)

Skinful, I love Ultrabland too, another thing I have used for a long time!

Tsmummy08 · 31/03/2017 09:04

Oh yeah I forgot my most annoying symptom: forgetfulness/lack of concentration Grin - got on the wrong train on Monday and forgot a massage on Wednesday which cost me £££ Blush

Another fan of Ultrabland here...

Marjory I use the Biore SPF and relly like it but will probably move to Anthelios in the summer as Biore isn't sweatproof - I'm not so keen on the Anthelios texture (even the light one) but need something that doesn't slide off so easily, it's always a compromise I guess...

Olli any news on treatment yet? Enjoy the haze :)

Ollivander84 · 31/03/2017 09:05

Ringing the consultant today to chase up the letter. They're 99% sure it will be surgery

mintmagnummm · 31/03/2017 09:07

Tsmummy have you tried the anti shine dry touch gel/cream version of the lrp anthelios? You have to apply a little to each section of the face and rub in rather than applying all over in one go as it dries quickly but it doesn't slip or slide off.

Olli can I have some please Grin

mintmagnummm · 31/03/2017 09:09

Ok so I have been a naughty girl and ordered the face theory regencalm serum (retinol and vit c) I received it, opened it that evening to use and then heard bo in my head screaming at me to stop so I didn't use it ha ha!
Does anyone want it? I opened it but never used any.

RubyGoat · 31/03/2017 12:46

I use the Biore SPF for general daily use, but it's not sweatproof so I'll swith to LRP in late spring. Need to find an alternative to the Biore though as I don't like the look of the 2017 reformulation... maybe the Shiseido or that Swiss brand, Daylong, would be interested in Bo's thoughts on the Daylong as it's a bit cheaper than the Shiseido (I think).

EnidButton · 31/03/2017 13:51

TS They should've checked your hormone levels. If they didn't, go back. She sounds rubbish! There are vitamin deficiencies and thyroid issues that can cause all of those symptoms. Plus a few others. Maybe is hormonal but you need proper numbers to confirm.

Tsmummy08 · 31/03/2017 15:49

Enid well you know what the NHS is like! I'll keep an eye on things and go back if it carries on/gets worse... locked myself out this afternoon, twice in a week, and apostrophised "hers" in a text !

MarjorySunshineDust · 31/03/2017 17:16

Thanks folks!
Is there any love for city block around here? I really do like it but willing to try something else if it's not doing much to protect my skin. May try anthelios again this summer if Biore isn't great for hot weather. I walk a lot with the kids so am often a sweaty mess in the summer!

wiltingfast · 31/03/2017 17:23

If you are dehydrated Marjory, you may not like the biore. There is a lot of alcohol in it which I found v uncomfortable.

Are you using acids? If not your city block might be sufficient ? Have never used it personally. Am using anthelios. Can't say I adore it but it's fine.
