Am I the only woman in the Western world who doesn't wax their fanny?

That's it really. Just reading the thread about a woman debating whether to wax and have a manicure before giving birth and there were loads of responses on the subject of nails but hardly anyone saying "For the love of God, woman, why would you choose to deforest your fanjo before it resembles a war zone?". Since when has denuding your lady garden been a mainstream activity and not something confined to sexploitation movies?

I get mine Hollywood waxed - all off.

It's a bit addictive once you start. I've been doing it for about 10 years.

Wayfarersonbaby · 01/03/2017 23:40

I don't at all like the plucked-chicken shaved/waxed look. I tried it a few times in my 30s, but thought it looked grim - makes the body look really unbalanced in terms of proportion IMO and not at all sexy.

I used to trim occasionally, but since become pg with DD have not bothered at all. I didn't give a monkey's what anyone in the hospital thought when I was in labour Grin

GraceGrape · 01/03/2017 23:43

I had to have part of mine shaved before an EMCS, but certainly not the whole lot. And I had let it grow extremely freely in the latter stages of pregnancy!

toffeeboffin · 02/03/2017 00:55

No.

I'm in my 30's, no need for that shenanigans nowadays Grin

UpYerGansey · 02/03/2017 15:17

I have tried waxing, but don't like the in-between time when you have to leave it alone. Can't be doing with shaving ugrhh!
So I've had it lasered. I do it for me, and for me alone.

I like how it looks, and I love feeling smooth. DP likes it too, which is just as well, since I don't do it for his benefit.

I am over 45 btw.

daffodil10 · 02/03/2017 16:50

Upyer. Just to cover all bases you should have said "and not a porn star"!!!!

MaQueen · 02/03/2017 17:11

Yes, have been regularly waxed for the last 10 years, or so. I have what my beauty therapist calls a thorough Brazillian which involves me getting on all fours on the couch (ahem). Also have a half leg wax and forearm wax regularly. I'm not hairy at all, to be honest, but I just like to be smooth. I've been having it done for so long now that I have little in the way of regrowth anymore.

Interestingly, my teenage DDs have zero interest in being waxed and heave at the very thought.

HeirToday · 02/03/2017 17:13

Nope. Never ever done it and never will.
Slight trim round the edges and undercarriage with blunt scissors if it's getting out of control.

HeirToday · 02/03/2017 17:15

My mum's generation was shaved in the 1950s but I gave birth in the mid 80s and shaving was not the norm. I had stitches too.

Thefitfatty · 02/03/2017 17:19

Done it. A few times. Sooooo painful. Will never do it again. Now I do the bikini area with a razor and nair. But the rest is Au natural

bananafish81 · 02/03/2017 21:37

Used to wax, but regular waxing means it stopped growing back, so wasn't really worth the time or money. Same with legs. I'm not very hairy and the hair was so sparse it was ridiculous to pay for a wax for a few remaining hairs. Got a Philips Lumea for home laser - it's great.

Loved the silky smooth feel of a freshly done Brazilian - esp round the back of the undercarriage (ie the bum beard!) Can't laser fine downy hair, plus I daren't shoot hot laser beams at my perineum!

Personal preference - some people like it all off underneath, others don't. As long as you're happy with your fanjo, that's all that matters!

bananafish81 · 02/03/2017 21:39

Oh and it never hurt me once I started going to a decent waxing place. Not just regular hot wax - but a salon with lycon wax. That stuff is magic! Even when lying with my knees hugged to my chest as she whipped off the wax from the base of my vulva, I'd say it was less painful than having my eyebrows threaded. Which I don't find painful BTW

SoulAccount · 02/03/2017 21:51

Nope, I have never had any waxing done.
No need
No desire to spend the money
No desire to be hugging my knees while someone rips hair out of where it is designed to grow, from the point of pain or dignity.

Freshprincess · 02/03/2017 22:03

TwicE. First time before my wedding, I went to get my eyebrows done and she talked me into the works. It hurt a lot. Second, was a couple of months later, when she persuaded me it doesn't hurt he more you have it done. It does.

Now I'm single, there's no prospect of anyone seeing it, I don't bother. Last time I did was when had a smear in November. and me crying like a baby waaaaaay more embarrassing than my hairy fanny/ legs.

MoonlightMojitos · 04/03/2017 23:06

bagel I find it actually hurts more on the front than the underneath surprisingly. Also more on the left hand side than the right....

28 year old year, have waxed or shaved it all off for 10+ years. I only do it every few weeks though so regrowth in between. I feel not clean down there when it gets too hairy. Currently pregnant and timing it so will have a wax 2 weeks before my due date in the hope that'll time about right! I wouldn't like to be really hairy, hot and sweaty in summer and bleeding post birth.

Liiinoo · 05/03/2017 01:51

I am in my 50s. I have the occasional side wax before a beach holiday to tidy up but apart from that I don't bother. I like the additional friction that pubic hair provides during sex! I also dislike the prepubescent look of a hairless mons.

I think this is a generational thing though. My DDs and their mates all consider regular waxes to be essential maintenance.

Robynmasters · 07/03/2017 21:35

Definitely a generational thing. I'm in the 40+ remove-round-the-edges-trim-the-middle-bit group.

busyboysmum · 07/03/2017 22:22

It just wasn't a thing when I was growing up. It was never mentioned by any of my boyfriends. It would never even have crossed my mind that it would have been a thing to do.

HolgerDanske · 08/03/2017 06:33

No.

Iris65 · 08/03/2017 06:38

Au natural too.

Thattimeofyearagain · 08/03/2017 06:46

I'm going to get a bikini line wax before my next holiday, but my bikini line extends a good 2 inches down my inner thigh. Rest of it Can have a trim. Id never do all off, but I doesn't bother me if others do, personal choice, innit .Smile

Yeahfine · 08/03/2017 07:12

I dont know where people get the all fours wax done. In my salon they only seem to want to do the sides and look quite put out at being asked to do anything underneath. One therapist said, Im no good at this Confused.

Iamastonished · 08/03/2017 07:15

Same here busyboysmum. I won't see 50 again, and I didn't know until I joined mumsnet that it was a thing.

Becibec · 08/03/2017 21:13

I had an elcs last week. Waxed beforehand. I was given the choice of waxing/ shaving myself or them doing it on the operating table. I chose waxing as it takes longer to regrow and potentially wouldn't have stubble in a new wound. As it happens they cut higher than i expected so it's not actually in the pubic hair.
The other reason for me was having had a natural birth first tim round with no waxing, the hair got very tangled and uncomfortable with a lot of blood loss. I actually lost enough that i needed a couple of blood transfusions and a week in hospital, getting up for a shower was not an option for the first few days.
So no - I don't normally and I certainly.didn't care what anyone thought it looked like, but for me there were pleanty of other reasons I wanted it done.
