Breaking up with your hairdresser

Would love some feedback from people on the reasons they decided to find a new hairdresser.
I've noticed I've lost a few loyal clients recently and can't help take it to heart.
Would also like to hear from other hairdressers on how they deal with this.

I changed hairdresser after 5 years recently. The main reason was they had two salons but closed one to make one bigger one - this resulted in a fifteen quid hike in prices across the price list, a crammed salon with nowhere to sit when waiting and a total shift in the culture and feel of the place. You could see the staff were not comfortable with new set up - some of the "new" stylists totally took over the place and mood of the salon: what was a lovely few hours I was happy to spend £90 every two months on became an awkward, unhappy experience. I felt really sorry for "my" stylist, the new staff spoke down to her and the salon manager just seemed to be worried about recouping his building/refurb costs by hiking the prices and cramming the customers in/overbooking. The last straw for me was my last visit - they'd overbooked again, I had to sit with foils in for half an hour on what was essentially a row of seats like a bus stop on the main walkway section of the salon (me and two other women) in everyone's way waiting to get hair washed. Once washed, my stylist's chair had been commandeered...So we had to go out to the extension - a separate building in the rear yard! - which they used for wig fittings for privacy - to finish my appointment! It was a farce. I actually started laughing it was so ludicrous - sat in a shed on a freezing November day surrounded by wigs!

Now found a lovely salon where it's relaxing and a treat to go to again.

I miss my old hairdresser. I think I had been to her for at least 5 years. I followed her through one salon move, but then she was moved again, and it was just too far Sad. Her son must be at uni now.

For me, it's normally not being able to get an appointment when I want one. I have long hair which doesn't split much so doesn't need cutting very often. I work full time so haircuts have to be on a Saturday. I had a lovely hairdresser, but she reduced her hours to only Thurs and Sat so was just too much in demand. My cut isn't particularly complex so I switched to someone with more working days and so less competition for her Saturday appointments.

Thomas that's really annoying re you booking online and then the stylist moaning she didn't have time for lunch etc!

My hairdresser the other day (friend) I was there whilst it was "quiet" and she was getting online bookings through Wahanda or some online booking app - but it also gives the client a discount if they're a new client booking online. Hairdresser then complained about that and said "they get charged the full price next time". Well why use the online booking app etc if you don't like it?! Obviously it's free publicity, a draw in for new clients etc...

I hate to say but the more I've known my hairdresser as a friend (known her years on and off she emigrated etc) the more I know re her pricing etc. I wouldn't mind but being an ex-owner of 2 salons and co-owner of her current one she makes bloody good money.

What do you do? I literally have a T every 5 weeks and a full 7 weeks. The grey hairs sprout right at the front of my head within days of a dye. It's so bloody depressing! What do you all do? I've tried that brush hair dye from m&s it's really not great. My hair is naturally dark brown but have it dyed lighter to try and hide the buggers!

My lovely hairdresser, who I'd known for 8 years and always been loyal to, had to stop work last summer after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It's now terminal and it's heartbreaking, he's only in his thirties.

I've left because

  • one ruined my top with bleach / didn't tell me / the manager never called back when I returned to complain
  • one kept cutting her own hands = liability
  • one was too rough with my easily tangled hair
  • one I didn't leave but he was never available so I switched to someone else in the same salon.
