Anyone else find their skin looks better when they DON'T take their make up off at night?..

Hi,

Just that really.

I started getting into a proper night time, beauty regime, with double cleansing, sometimes facial massage and then add a few drops of EL ANR and a face mask twice a week.

The last couple of weeks, to be perfectly honest, I just couldn't be arsed! New puppy and not sleeping well etc has turned me into a zombie, so I have just falling into bed.

Weirdly, I've noticed my skin looks a little brighter the next day, once I've cleansed and put my make up on Confused

It's very odd. Anyone else noticed this?

Thanks.

It sounds like your cleansing products are not suitable. I can't otherwise imagine that sleeping with all make up and daily grime on your face can be beneficial

largepinot · 19/02/2017 19:06

I know Kat, it really makes no sense. I guess everyone's skin is different.

Oh no if I do this I get really congested skin

Thirtyrock39 · 19/02/2017 20:09

When I can be bothered I'll do a hot flannel at night . Used to do the lot but find my skin is better with less fuss although everything I read says should be exfoliating at night to get rid of the layers of crap that hang around as skin ages

hollieberrie · 19/02/2017 20:29

No, but my skin does look amazing when I cover my whole face in Sudocrem before going to sleep. Wake up and ta dah... lovely, fresh and clear Grin

ParadiseCity · 19/02/2017 20:34

I wash my face each morning in the shower and then moisturise, I do nothing in the evening and my skin is happy that way. I don't wear foundation though.

In another case of being a total rebel, I never eat breakfast in the morning except for the occasional chocolate bar. And I'm the skinniest person in my office. The rest munch away on fruit yoghurt and porridge telling me how unhealthy I am...

absolutelynotfabulous · 19/02/2017 20:39

I haven't taken my slap off since 1981Grin.

My skin is fine. I cleanse and moisturise properly each morning.

thenightsky · 19/02/2017 20:42

My skin looks no different if I just fall into bed without washing my face. However, my mascara ends up like panda eyes next day.

Hangover skin... I look like shite... massive purple/black bruises under my eyes that no cover-up cream can hope to disguise.

LittleEpisode · 19/02/2017 20:49

I've always suffered with my skin and am meticulous about taking my make up off at night - but back in the day when I had a life (pre-kids) on the odd occasion where I'd end up crashing at someone's house and not taking off make up my spots would literally fall off the next day! Maybe it's a dehydration thing? And maybe I should finish this bottle of wine tonight and recreate the effect .... purely in the name of research!

Little, what were your findings?....

I remove makeup with coconut oil or argon oil or whatever oil I have to hand . Slather on my face and wash off with hot damp cotton pad or soft cloth . My skin never feels stripped or dry and it is glowing when I wake up . I have only fallen asleep once or twice with makeup on and my skin looked terrible in the morning so I'm inclined to think you could you be using product that is unsuitable if your skin looks better with last nights makeup residues on !

spankhurst · 20/02/2017 22:11

I had proper flu once and did absolutely nothing to my skin for a week. It looked fabulous.
I cleanse gently at night and splash with lukewarm water in the morning and have pretty decent skin at 46. I don't like the feel of stale make-up so have to take it off, but do it as gently as possible.

MrsMeeseeks · 21/02/2017 07:29

I would genuinely rather have spots than go to bed with a dirty face!

cosytoaster · 21/02/2017 07:40

The less I do to my skin at night the better it is. I never bothered cleansing etc & my skin was fine but a couple of years ago decided that I should have a proper regime, complete with expensive products...the result was skin chaos - took months to get back to normal. Now I just moisturise in the morning and occasionally at night.

Bluebellevergreen · 21/02/2017 07:45

This is even weirder. I had bery dry skin, moisturise at night and in the morning but always dry.
I ran out of moisturiser and became lazy and I havent used it for 3-4 months.
😮 My skin is not dry now!!!!
But I am pregnant 🤔

poppym12 · 21/02/2017 08:12

I don't do much to my skin and it's never been problematic. I 'cleanse' with cheap superdrug facial wipes when I've been wearing tinted moisturiser and eye makeup mainly because as I've got older, if I wear mascara for too long my eyes get sore. I splash with water in the shower next morning.

This last week I decided to have a go with serums and eye cream stuff. Bloody spots at the side of my nose and around my chin. I feel conned! Hmm

FunkinEll · 21/02/2017 08:17

I'm the same, don't wear make up daily but only wash my face in the morning with water. My skin is pretty good but I do get hormonal spots sometimes and always get spots if I start a new skincare routine.

No one from any company is going to promote this way because it won't make anyone any money.

allegretto · 21/02/2017 08:18

I do take make up of but I have noticed that everytime I have tried to start getting into the habit of a cleanse, tone and moisturize routine my skin looks awful. It's just too much. Now I take off eye make up with a cleanser and wash my face a bit with water (or sometimes I don't bother). This seems to work a lot better!

Check if the serum contains silicone: it can block your pores.

Laiste · 21/02/2017 09:12

Me too.

I was a counter manager for Dior and then Clinique for years. Banging on about day and night skin care routines to all the customers.

Have i ever cleansed before bed? Nope Blush

Is my skin good? Yes Grin I'm nearly 50 and have NO wrinkles.

(I have a morning cleanse and moisturise routine which i've done since i was about 15 though).

I think the problem is that traditional cleanse tone and moisturise routine really upsets the natural balance of your skin, hence why I use oil to clean my makeup and I don't moisturise as because I am not stripping my skin I don't need to.

largepinot · 22/02/2017 10:39

sher, you're probably right. I remember my best friend growing up, used to cleanse, tone and moisturise from about the age of 10 and he skin was bone dry. She was clearly just stripping away all her natural needed oils.

SwedishEdith · 22/02/2017 11:58

I never take off my make up. Take it off in the morning with any old oil but wash that off with hot water (as otherwise the new make up would slide off) so I do need to moisturise as well.

murphys · 22/02/2017 13:17

Seriously, this is a bit of a revelation.

My eyelid started drooping quite badly from about last year, I always used an eye cream in the morning but then ran out and didn't bother buying any more. My eye droop did get worse I think. So I looked up how I should be doing it, bought a rather expensive eye cream and have religiously been cleansing, serum, moisturizer and eye cream at night. The other side is just as droopy now too...Hmm

Strangely enough, OP my reasoning for letting it all go was because I also got a new puppy and he is pretty exhausting... so have been to bed with a full wad of made up face a few times in the past weeks. The other eye, isn't as droopy now Shock. Its not from lack of tiredness I can assure you as I am knackered and been up in the night with pup.

What is going on??

ps.. if anyone has tips for eye lid drooping, the first eye isn't really any better
