MrsW - I'd go for Option B, too.

My DF had dementia for 8 years - I can help/ advise or console in equal measure.

Rosebag · 17/02/2017 17:19

I tend to be more of the "give them enough rope..." variety. Karma, but I might be inclined to make a bit of a deal of it with their line manager if I wanted blood....

I am having A Moment. DD has been on train alone to Victoria for quite some time and is due in soon. Very wobbly.....

Lalsy · 17/02/2017 17:22

Rose, soothing big breaths. Is there anything in particular you are worried about?

MrsW, I dunno. I definitely wouldn't rise above it but I have always wanted to have something on someone - like Jeeves and Eulalie underswear in PG Wodehouse.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 17/02/2017 17:23

Holding virtual hands with you Rose - I feel your worry - but she (and you) will feel great when she manages it successfully and next time it will be easier and the time after that easier still etc etc. Will she call you when she arrives?

Hmmmm Mrs W - hard to say without more details. If their actions harm you either now or in future then B, if not then C.. I think women are often far too quick to "be nice" and that this is often a BIG MISTAKE.

motherinferior · 17/02/2017 17:23

FlowersRose.

My PFB is off to a gig in Shepherd's Bush. I am also facing the fact that perhaps she's not that different from me at 16 in her partying habits as I thought. "Well, I do drink ciders. A bit"...

bigTillyMint · 17/02/2017 17:38

MrsW, my immediate reaction was b, but then I thought I probably wouldn't do that in RL! But where I work, we are very much a team so if someone new came in attempting to back-stab or big themselves up at my expense, I'm not sure...

Rose, is she contactable on her phone? Keep texting with her till you know all is good?

We have had DS's medical meeting and it was positive. However, DS is now taking that to mean that he doesn't have to stick to the medical plan so closelyConfusedAngryHmm!

CointreauVersial · 17/02/2017 18:03

Rudy - glad you got away. could you have assisted in dealing with the shit storm in any way? If not, best off out of it.

Good news, BTM, but sneaky bugger thinking that's an invitation to relax the rules!

Oooh, office politics, MrsW - I really can't be bothered to play the long game, nor could I rise above it - I'd definitely go for B too. I hate all that crap, but luckily I don't have to deal with too much of it where I work. My assistant finished today, so I sent a text to about ten local/mum friends, asking if they "knew of anyone" to replace her, and I've already had three people contact me. Including one person I know vaguely from NCT days, and she'd be good. But I have to think carefully about the "fit" because there are some strong characters around.

Anyway, thanks for birthday wishes! It's been lovely so far - breakfast in bed, three bunches of flowers (including an unexpected one from DB), chocs from the DCs and vouchers (Swarovski and Jo Malone) from DH (he's learning). DM has given me a Champneys spa day for two, with heavy hints that she's rather like to be my plus one. Grin She and DSDad came over for lunch, which was rather more leisurely than we planned, so we didn't get away for our overnight jaunt until mid-afternoon, then got stuck in Friday traffic. And we are in.....Winchester! Nice oldy worldy hotel, with four-poster bed and enormous bathtub, meal booked at nearby restaurant which gets good reviews if only I hadn't been such a pig at lunchtime And in time-honoured tradition, DH is having a little pre-dinner snooze on the bed beside me.

Tomorrow we will do some shopping, some strolling on riverbanks, more eating, maybe visit the cathedral - no need to rush home to the rat race.

Rosebag · 17/02/2017 18:04

Thanks all. She's done fine and we were in touch although I was holding off bombarding her with texts every few minutes -although I wanted to--
Firsts with DD have always been special and left me In pieces with anxiety, but she's way more capable than I give her credit for. She's been using public transport since the top of primary school and goes on the tube with friends. This was her first solo intercity type journey. Time for a G&T I think.

BTM that's good news overall. I guess DSs growing confidence might make him want to move on too quickly but it's in the right direction. Smile

I am waiting for John Lewis to deliver. Oh the excitement.

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 17/02/2017 18:14

Well done Rose-let.

Mrs W, I would go for (c), but with a heavy dose of 'I know and I'm watching you'. I would also ensure that the backfiring was of monumental proportions and that everyone knew, through quiet 121 interventions. But I can't stand that kind of thing in the workplace and I like to see it implode quickly Grin.......

Cloud, I can recommend BD as a very 'non batshit' dog sitter!

Lalsy · 17/02/2017 18:17

Aww, well done the Rosebud. Those firsts can make minutes seem like hours.....

BTM, that's good news, I hope ds sees sense.

MrsWobble3 · 17/02/2017 18:18

So the consensus so far seems to be b. Hmmm. The risk is that I get characterised as hysterical or over emotional and the chaps all stick together. I only found out at lunchtime today so no harm in mulling over the weekend. I like the Eulalie analogy - but I think the success of c is dependent on whether he thinks he did anything wrong - I need to try and find out more.

motherinferior · 17/02/2017 18:24

I SO hate that way of characterising women as 'difficult' or 'taking it personally'. AngryI mean I probably am difficult but I also am quite good at what I do.

Blackduck · 17/02/2017 18:32

Oh Beachy maybe house/dog sitting is an alternative career......

Lalsy · 17/02/2017 18:34

I know, MI Angry. It is usually a straw man too - calm down, don't go in all gun blazing etc etc, when a woman wants to stand up for herself or someone else in a rational and reasonable way that would pass unnoticed when a man did it.

And, while on my feminist high horse, why the hell does M and S colour code its sports bras on different floors? Cos obviously sporty women don't care whether it does the job, they just need it to match their leggings Angry.

Lalsy · 17/02/2017 18:37

As in, you have to go to two floors to look at the tiny number of high-impact bras, because they think our tiny brains will think aha lime green, that'll work for me. Right, I will shut up now.

Good luck to Crem and BD with job applications.....takes so much energy.

Happy birthday, CV! I love Winchester. Enjoy! And am I too late to wish WAF happy birthday? Thanks

Re your dilemma MrsW - I am probably "too nice" but with that disclaimer I would go for Michelle Obama's "When they go low, go high". I was brought up a Puritan so I do very much like to hold the high moral ground. Grin

herbaceous · 17/02/2017 19:37

On a bus, so a brief note. Only semi- trying day with aged Ps, trying to sort finances. Dad worse than ever. DS a total star. He charms the pants clean off everybody.

Still ill. Have narrowed it down to plague or mumps. But have drugged self up and am meeting old chum who now lives in Chicago.

We appear to be in the throes of adopting two kittens. I wasn't bothered about them, until other people showed an interest! One fluffy and tortoiseshell, one black short haired. Boy and girl. Rescued from a Mr Trebus-type hoarder. They'll fit right in.

Collymollypuff · 17/02/2017 19:43

Herbs, I am very fond of kittens and may feel a need to visit you. Naturally I will come bearing gifts for the felines and a big bag to steal one in

Collymollypuff · 17/02/2017 19:44

I am sorry you've got the plague, though. Sad

bigTillyMint · 17/02/2017 20:09

Just been watching TOTP 1983 and was excited to note I had seen 4 of the bands featured (Orange Juice, Big Country, Altered Images and Nick Heyward/Haircut 100) plus another in the charts at the time - Addles favourite (Blancmange). DS and I also noted that had I have met DH back then (ignoring the fact that he would only have been 14), I would never have been remotely attracted as the only band he showed any interest in was Toto - and their (only?) hit - Africa Shock

Herbs sorry you have the lurgy but the kittens sound cute. Glad things were better than expected at DPs.

Collymollypuff · 17/02/2017 20:25

BTM, just want to chuck in here that I have a friend who does French tuition in our neck of the woods, if your ds got really desperate about his French GCSE. She is a very funny and lively woman and is hilarious socially. Here's her website:

www.lucymartintuition.co.uk/

Collymollypuff · 17/02/2017 20:26

PS I have no axe to grind at all though - just thought it might come in useful. x

bigTillyMint · 17/02/2017 20:32

Thanks Molly Smile
French is actually the one subject I can help him with as I speak French reasonably fluently (though getting less and less practice Sad) and did A level French! Sadly neither DC has inherited my love for the language.

Cremolafoam · 17/02/2017 20:42

BTM are you sure you should be boasting about seeing those particular bands?Hmm lol 😎only joking.
Herbs, mucho jealousEnvy of kitten acquisition. Careful they aren't completely fera given the provenance We can't seem to make any progress here. 🐈Plague definitely plague. Maybe mumps tho'Hmm
Sorry you is poorly.
Mrs W, I would read the riot act, but in seething, controlled and completely by the book terms. Warnings, verbal followed by written firmly ready to be slammed on table. I am also of the Michelle O school. Get it said and done quickly, then move on.
Well done wee rosebud. So glad she managed on her tod. The only Crepey child we will never have to worry about is the future mini-Herbs. Grin
When dd was 5 she started flying on her own and by 14 was travelling without assistance, including solo train journeys. She never had any fear. I on the other hand was a basket case who texted breathlessly every 10minutes and had real time webcams up on the computer trying to track her.BlushGin

So, in daily decrepitude news, I have now been told I have an under active thyroid, just to add to the picture up General Deficiency. I now don't care what you call it. All I know is I'm grouchy and feel like an elephant is sitting on my body by 2pm in the afternoon. Gah!
