Hairdresser disaster! Help please

I had my hair highlighted yesterday and it's terrible. I usually colour my own roots, have done for several years, then have foils every few months
I use wells koleston blonde 12/11
The person who did my hair is on maternity leave so I tried a mobile hairdresser, she cut my hair a couple of weeks ago and its nice so I thought I'd get her to colour it, bad move.
I'd normally have foils in a lighter blonde/ bleach and a dark blonde
She suggested just having bleach and having it more ash as it's quite warm. Sounded ok but I've ended up with yellow roots about a good two inches then really light, the top is really bad doesn't even look highlighted
She used foils but the top and sides were done with what looked like a spatula with a comb at the end. She seemed a bit panicky by the time the top was being done and I think the bleach h can't have been in my hair more than five minutes
When she'd finished and she showed me I didn't realise how bad it was because I was sat with the light behind me so although it wasn't what I was expecting it didn't seem that bad but seeing it in daylight it's horrible

I really don't trust her to sort it out now. What can I do? Could I use the 12/11 on the roots to lighten them? I've washed it in silver shampoo but it made no difference
Ive also got a dark blonde colour 6/0 is that any use for anything, don't normally use it but it was sent by mistake
I've got my hair in a ponytail as it looks such a dog and short of wearing a hat I don't know what to do. Please help x

Right don't have a shit Fir just yet.

Yes she fucked up, but this can be fixed.

I've had many a hair disaster through years of bleaching - often with results like this Grin

Silver shampoo can make your hair turn lilac so I'd avoid that. I would however get a toner - they aren't that expensive. You can get them in Boots/Superdrug. Possibly a big supermarket.

Obviously don't use her again. Least it's cold so you can cover it up with a hat Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 11/02/2017 22:21

*shit fit

Gingerbreadmam · 11/02/2017 22:22

purple shampoo will take out the yellow tones but the hair isnt light enough so it still wont blend in.

you definitely need more bleach on and i would let a professional sort it.

pp who suggested dry shampoo is on the money. a touch of silver one is good for this problem ive had to do it before

Tessticklesyourfancy · 11/02/2017 22:23

Yes I paid £70 for these highlights., without a cut It's around the going rate here
I've used silver shampoo today but it hasn't made any difference

Try a toner tomorrow?

Mermaidinthesea · 11/02/2017 22:32

Yes you need professional repair, complain and get your money back, you really must.
Not as bad as mine two years ago she died my hair the colour of a tangerine instead of blond, it looked god awful on me.

TeethDrama · 11/02/2017 22:34

You can't buy toner from a supermarket, I've tried. Not even a wash in/out. I can't see what that would do?? A toner will not lighten the yellow roots. Only something with bleach can do that. i really think you need highlights and lowlights to break it up and blend it in, you can't do that yourself.

Give the dry shampoo a go. It does make hair lighter temporarily, powdery but lighter.

WaitrosePigeon · 11/02/2017 22:36

Yes the ideal thing OP needs is proper bleaching - just thinking of something she could do in the interim before Wednesday.

Batiste dry shampoo is really good Smile

EweAreHere · 11/02/2017 22:38

You need to call her, tell her that in the light of day, it's a really poor colouring job and you need your money back so you can have it fixed professionally.

Send her the pictures of the extremely different colours in your hair. She cant argue with the pictures.

Tessticklesyourfancy · 11/02/2017 22:38

As it was done at home I couldn't see just how she applied it but she had two bowls one tub of powder bleach one tube of something but I've no idea what it was but both I'm sure we're Indola plus two bottles of peroxide but I don't know which. The top section of my hair was what can only be described as pulled through the spatula comb thing, she said that ithis is great for doing highlights of one colour but no good for two? I looked at her website and Facebook and there are loads of great looking hair dos but unfortunately mine isn't one of them Hmm I'm going to stick with the ponytail until I can get it sorted I'm just so annoyed and fed up, I can't do the twist and plait things as I think I'll make myself look an even bigger prat seeing as how I'm almost 50.

You need to contact the hairdresser and ask that this is fixed, or get your money back.
I can highly recommend Toni & guy model school for a low budget colour - £20 for half head highlights by fully supervised trainees. Never had a bad colour in 15 years I've been going.

TeethDrama · 11/02/2017 22:45

Waitrose - I wasn't meaning to found like I was addressing you directly, sorry if it read like that!

I have a long history of hair disasters and have found that tinkering with going lighter myself is really hard. The only thing I do myself is keep a box of light ash brown dye in the cupboard so if there's a strand or two of blonde highlight which is too chunky or obvious, I put a tiny bit down the strand, using a baby toothbrush, to break it up 🙂 And that's it! I once tried 4 home dyes one after the other to rectify a gingery cast to my highlighted hair. It didn't work and eventually I just thought - stop. Leave it alone. Accept it'll look crap for a few days and then go to a hairdresser!

TeethDrama · 11/02/2017 22:46

On the plus side, op, the ends are a nice shade 🙂

Tessticklesyourfancy · 11/02/2017 22:49

I'm more Disney blonde than tangerine 🍊, think Alice in wonderland or rapunzle so at least I should be grateful for that Grin

Tessticklesyourfancy · 11/02/2017 22:51

Yes the ends aren't a bad colour just a. bit too much for me, I'd rather have some darker blonde in there too,

Bleach is the only thing that will lift the band of yellow. I'd suggest finding a salon and possibly going for a mixture of bleach highlights with a low peroxide and beige toned lowlights to even it up. I'd ask the other hairdresser for a refund or to cover the cost of getting it corrected.

WaitrosePigeon · 11/02/2017 23:13

Don't worry Teeth I didn't read it like that! Brew

Tilliii · 11/02/2017 23:13

If it were me I'd just do some highlights on top but then I always do my own hair and have for years so know how it responds

mumofthemonsters808 · 11/02/2017 23:21

Id ring her and tell her how unhappy you are, I certainly wouldn't be paying any more money out on products or visits to another hairdressers. You've already paid seventy quid and it's not right, she needs to fix it and if she doesn't know how to, you want your money back.Try not to worry, it will get sorted.

PickAChew · 11/02/2017 23:35

Bloody hell, I think it would cost less than £70 at a good salon, round here, for a proper job!

But you definitely need someone professional to rescue it from the brassiness. Are you naturally quite dark, because you seem to have quite dark roots underneath all the yellow?

lyricaldancer · 11/02/2017 23:36

I wouldn't advise letting her have another go, or a diy job.

tobecontinued2000 · 11/02/2017 23:41

I would get an 11.1 or 12.1 toner to lift that out.

Your hair would be really light but it would remove the brassiness.

Tessticklesyourfancy · 12/02/2017 08:42

I'm going to email the hairdresser today and send some pictures and see what she says. My natural colour is brown but I've had it blonde for over twenty years and only once has it been yellow on the roots but not as bad as this. I'm not sure about toners as I wouldn't know what colour to get and if I'd end up with blue hair that's already light, knowing my luck that would happen.
Like I said at the start I don't feel I can trust her to sort it so I'll take some convincing that's even if she admits responsibility to it
I'd much rather preferred to have been able to put my usual 12/11 on top and sort it but I know that I can't. Thanks again for your help x

Gingerbreadmam · 12/02/2017 08:54

a toner wont fix it. if the ends are bleached theyre the lightest of the light. a toner wont lift your dark roots just take out some of the yellow.

definitely email the hairdresser. even if you can claw back some of the money it will go towards getting it fixed elsewhere.

it really does need a professional to fix it properly. you could probably make it look slightly better yourself but not right if you get what i mean.
