Silk Pillowcases

Are they really magic? Will they make my frizzy hair sleek, will it stop me becoming wrinkled of face?
If so please point me in the direction of the most recommended brand or seller? I rarely sleep (glares at children) but when I do I wake up looking like I've been dragged through a hedge backward and with a crumpled visage.

I don't know if they make any difference but I love mine. £15 at Jasmine Silk.

Yes, my hair is smoother and less frizz prone. They don't work miracles but they do help. I've been using them for 4 ish years (?) and I notice a difference if I stay away and don't take one with me.

Yes. Ive got a couple of the SilkPerfect ones, plus the eyemask and when I use them I notice that my skin is less dry and creased and my hair is less ruffled in the morning. Theyre nice and cool to sleep on too.

Ooh, thanks for this thread, OP,

I'm considering one too, for the same 'limiting of lines' reasons.

Could those with experience please tell me:

(a) If the silk is hand-wash/ air dry only (and, if yes, does that mean a need to purchase 2?).

(b) How often you actually need to wash it?

(c) Does it absorb thicker, night moisturiser more than a cotton pillowcase? (Which may be counterproductive!!).

Marilyn, I wash them in the machine with the other bedlinen but silk dries a lot quicker than cotton (eg 30 mins outside, 1.5 hrs hung up indoors in the winter). I do have two but tbh it's not necessary in the same way as having multiple sets of cotton linen is.

I wouldn't be without my silk pillowcases having had them for the last 3 years, I'm just about to replace them as after such a long time they are not as white as they once were, and I'm wary of using vanish. My DP and I both use them, I have very long curly hair that used to turn into dreadlocks overnight on even a 600 tc pillowcase and a silk one was cheaper than going to 1000 tc so I went for it. DP has Afro hair and has also found it keeps the texture better than cotton pillowcases. I wash mine in the machine on a delicates cycle with special silk detergent, which is easy to get, the little sainsburys local near me has it and it's not expensive, and then air dry. Just get a coloured one rather than white! I now also sleep with a Silke turban on as my 5 month dd has started playing with my hair during night feeds and I can't sleep with it tied up not even when sleep deprived! Can't comment on the anti aging skin benefits as in only 22 but hoping it helps me look fresher for the sleep deprivation than without...

Defo worth it. I wash mine in the machine as normal, it is the only thing I iron though!

I'm a very restless sleeper and have curly hair and this really helps to stop it from getting really fluffy and mangled.

My hair stays smooth with mine and if I forget to pack one when we are away my hair is a knotty mess the next morning. Not sure about the anti aging but I have less lines than my sister who is several years younger than me. I have been using mine for about eight years and replaced them once. I wash them at forty with the rest of the wash and line dry.

Just ordered one from Jasmine Silk (re previous posters advice). Reduced to £13.50 - I got an ivory one. It's cotton on one side which won't be an issue and I thought I'd like to try how I get on with silk first with my curly bonce.
Also free postage in uk ! But lots of lovely silky things on site which have me seriously tempted.

I have silk pajamas which I wash in the hand wash cycle in the washing machine with non bio liquid, no problems and they come up lovely. I dry them on hangers in airing cupboard, or line dry (when we actually have good weather). Imagine silk bedding would be much the same.

Bit lethal once you start looking around the sites, though, isn't it? So many gorgeous silk sleep accessories available (I especially like the Liberty print, real lavender-filled eye masks).

Sadly way beyond my budget, as is this anti-ageing full face & body "sleeping cocoon"...a mere snip at £195 Shock

Arian one of mine is silk one side, cotton the other - I got it because the full silk ones can be a bit slippery, but having the cotton side face down stops it moving about so much. Forgot about that tbh.

if you already have a silk headscarf, (I get loads as useless corporate gifts), you can easily stitch it to loop on to your pillow. Then you can see if it works for you before investing.

I have one silk pillowcase and after the first few months of careful hand washing with special liquid, I now just bung in with the regular wash and tumble dry, and it doesn't seem to have done any harm. Pillowcases are too frequently washed to make a separate regime sustainable.

I was tempted on that site by silk boxer shorts but I am worried I may like them too much and then I become high maintenance Wink
I have a friend who washes all silk in regular washes and no harm is done, but I'm an old school hand washer of 'delicates'
