It's no good saying don't go. I've promised now

Going out with DD1, 2, and 3 for DD3s 19th birthday. BFs going plus couple of mates. Probably cocktail bar then club. They all wanted me to go with them last year but i chickened out and they were :( DH is staying home with DD4 (3) saying ''go - enjoy!'' Arrgghh!

Kids won't give a shite what i wear - lovely young people - but i'm flustered. Haven't been clubbing for 10+ years.

So - late 40s, good legs, good bum, good tum, BUT massive matronly boobs and not keen on my arms. 5'5''. I'm thinking dark skinny jeans, heels, and .... that's as far as i've got! Help!

Oh my God Laiste that's something else isn't it? Grin

I especially like Fit: as expected. Smile

PurpleNurple69 · 27/01/2017 20:08

I like the second one you posted ginger. Not at first but once I saw it on the model you could see it properly.

Might look for that in town tomorrow for work..... Like I need more clothes.

Gingerbreadmam · 27/01/2017 20:36

Oh good! Well happy shopping purple hope you find it. You can actually check stock on their site if you're that interested just for info ha!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 27/01/2017 21:40

Little black silky/zippy thing from Allsaints.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 27/01/2017 21:42

Or jacquard top also Allsaints.

Sadik · 27/01/2017 22:14

Apologies for my failed angel wing link - here it is though it wasn't really a serious suggestion.

I'm also late 40s and I would suggest going for cool (temperature) over any notion of cool (style) if you're going to be dancing.

My gig outfit these days is a Bench dress with asymmetric top to bottom zip that undoes at both ends - I start out utterly respectable with tights & all zipped up for pre-gig coffee/hanging out. Once its too dark and everyone's too pissed to care I lose the tights and unzip as far as I feel I can get away with top and bottom Grin

Sadik · 27/01/2017 22:25

I really like that Adaline top in red. I've got the opposite problem to you though Laiste in that I'm utterly flat chested (hence suggesting all the tops that I'd love to wear and can't!)

PacificDogwod · 28/01/2017 13:28

How about St Bustier? - good for those of us bigger of bust Grin

The dresses are fab too in case you change your mind re jeans+heels+top, and their sale is still on until tomorrow.

What about something like this?

SymbollocksInteractionism · 28/01/2017 14:51

I have a body suit similar to this but without the cold shoulder and it's flattering with the ruching.
Covers arms and V front?

Another thanks to all - it goes on...

RIGHT. 2 weeks to go - I'm so glad i started this early - i've changed my mind and decided against the skinny jeans ensemble. I just cannot find a top i'm ok with. The ones which truly suit my shape (I need longish, bit clingy, deep neck line, sleeves) and are within budget all either look too try hard OR as if i'm just mooching out to sainsburys.

So I'm thinking a dress. What do you think of this one in the plain black? I own this one and you don't have to have your boobs hanging out! You can pull the wrap higher. I'm ok with a needle and thread and i've actually taken off the flap across the skirt so it has just a plain tube skirt. Sorry i can't make it link directly.

KRISP® Womens Knee Length Midi Dress Cross Over Jersey Wrap Front Pleated Bodycon V Neck Officewear

I know it's not 'clubby', but i have a good bum and legs (it's clingy) and i feel i could relax because my arms would be covered and the v suits my bust.

And would you do tights or not tights? If tights - nude or black? And shoes? I've got nude heels very much like these (but not this make) :
www.shoecloset.co.uk/high-heels-c3/ladies-e1-nude-patent-court-shoes-p4744

Or these Zara ones in black patent:

Your continued advice is much appreciated. I'm getting there Grin

The zara block heel one.

OP posts:
PurpleNurple69 · 30/01/2017 13:11

I like the dress Laiste but I think it's too plain for a plain shoe and definitely not nude. If it were me I'd wear a sparkly or very colourful high heel sandal. By colourful I mean Irregular Choice colourful! I'll have a nosy on t'internet for some links.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 30/01/2017 13:48

Not RTFT but saw you mentioned wrap tops, Hush has a few in the sale (still a bit spendy but look good):

here

Floisme · 30/01/2017 13:58

Black dress sounds fine provided it doesn't mean fiddling with the neckline all night. I'd go for the Zara block heels if you can wear them that high. I think they look more modern than standard heels.

And I'd wear black opaques which I'm sure would lose me style points but I really don't care. I think nudes or bare legs look ridiculous in February when there's every chance you'll be queuing outside at some point. (I would take a coat too Grin)

NewPantsforaNewYear · 30/01/2017 14:05

I think it is much more important to feel happy in what you're wearing, rather than whether the outfit is 'right'.

If you feel happy in that dress, then I think it's just what you should wear. It looks great and I can imagine it works very well with your shape.

I'd wear it with black tights and shoes - make sure they're comfortable to dance in. Perhaps some noticeable jewellery - long silver earrings?

Have fun!!

Laiste · 30/01/2017 14:53

purple those shoes are bloody gorgeous! I bet they're quite comfy too as not toohigh. I think i've stumbled across that brand before while trawling. Linked from a 50s fashion site. I was looking at some of the shoes further down my polyvore link after i sent it actually. Some of those shoes! The Dolce & Gabbana crystals ....

I have do a pair of shoes which my DD2 gave to me b4 xmas - she bought them too small for her and has never worn them:
www.pinterest.com/pin/552605816752411313/

the 'sexy wedding' first pic gold platforms. I was thinking they may be OTT - but perhaps i should do it! If i can't bare them on all night it wouldn't be the first time i finish a night dancing in bare feet.

Bernice the hush wrap looks really nice. I have my eye on a couple of their bits. When we're a bit more flush in spring (always skint in winter) i'm going to indulge.

flo - laughing at ridiculous bare legs in Feb. Yes! Mind you I fear i'm going to look faintly ridiculous all night anyway. I'll prob'ly pin the neckline. I can walk/dance in the patent. They're more comfy than they look. One condition of me going along with them was not to drag me from venue to venue too much. Car to bar suits me.

newpants - you've hit the nail on the head really. No one looks good and has a good time if they feel they look daft in their outfit. If i end up wearing a dress i own already and 2nd hand shoes i will treat myself to some sparklies.

Out of interest - all 3 DDs, when asked separately, suggested a 'nice blouse' and a mini when i asked them. No one said woolly dress. Silly me.

OP posts:
Floisme · 30/01/2017 15:08

I think that's a very good point about wearing something you already own. If I'm out of my comfort zone, then an unfamiliar outfit makes me feel even more unsettled. Better to wear something you know looks good and tweak it if needed.

And although part of me thinks it sounds hellish, another part is quite envious that your daughters have invited you. My son is lovely but it'll be a cold day in hell before he asks me to go on a night out with him!

Laiste · 30/01/2017 15:35

A big part of me thinks it sounds hellish too flo. But i am flattered they've asked me.

An amusing thing: Las night DD3 breezily said on her way past 'oh by the way mum - don't wrap up when we go out. These days we don't wear - y'know - warm stuff'.

Hmm

Last time i went clubbing i wore low rise jeans high heels and and A Bra. Nowt else. Money and a lipstick stashed up under the bra wires. Granted it was 15 years ago but ''We don't wrap up these days'' ... Jaysus!

I replied i was glad we were traveling by horseless carriage and not having to walk in the mud - like the old days Grin

I feel your pain Laiste. I'm very fulsome of knorkage (34G) with narrow shoulders - I'm always a baby-step away from looking either too matronly or like bleddy Nell Gwynn Hmm

I can't wear anything plunging, otherwise no bloke can look me in the face while talking...

Like you, I have good legs and a neat bum, and I'm fairly tall (5ft 7") but 2 c-sections have left me with a flabby tum Sad

I was 'out out' last Friday night, and opted for black skinnies, a long sleeved black lace top from The White Company (which crucially sits just below my hips) and heeled mink suede ankle boots (very neutral, but wanted to break up all the black), and a cocktail ring.

This is an almost identical top, except mine was black and long sleeved

Laiste · 30/01/2017 18:34

either too matronly or like bleddy Nell Gwynn

It's a miserable state of affairs but i am laughing at that Grin Yes!

Your outfit sounds lovely. Everyone else in the group is wearing jeans or a jamsuit for this do. I'll be the only one with my legs out but hey ho.

OP posts:
Laiste · 30/01/2017 18:35

Snort Grin jumpsuit!

OP posts:
RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 30/01/2017 19:21

Yes to the dress! I'd probably go with black tights and black shoe boots or ankle boots, to avoid it looking too 'sexy secretary' which courts or block heels might veer it into.
