Where on earth do you dry your hair?

Okay. So I'm American and while I love my adopted home, one thing that really really annoys me about this country is the lack of real plug sockets in bathrooms. (Honestly I could just as easily fill the kitchen sink with water and drop my hairdryer in it if I wanted to off myself... the "safety" issue is a bunch of bs... rant over).

Anyway. Where do you dry your hair?!?

I wash and dry mine every morning. And right now my hair dryer lives in the kitchen (yuck).

I desperately want to use the bathroom mirror but would have to run extension cords through the house.

Suggestions please! :-)

Ok Confused

Not sure of the voltage of sockets and appliances in the US but in the UK there is a very good reason why three pin plug sockets are not in bathrooms that contain a shower and/or bath, ditto flick light switches. Not so much to do with dropping an electrical appliance still plugged in into a sink full of water (in which case you knacker your hairdryer and fuse the electrics) or into a bath (knackering your hairdryer, fusing the electrics and probably killing the person in the bath), more to do with the sealed unit surrounding a pull cord, electric shower unit and 240 volt two pin socket stopping water getting in and causing damage.

I'll keep using mine in the bedroom.

PacificDogwod · 24/01/2017 20:12

Ha! I have been bemoaning this very issue since I move to the UK 24 years ago Grin

Millions of Germans have sockets in their bathrooms, using hairdryers and (Shock) radios with impunity and they are not dying in their droves...

Anyway, yes, hair drying lives in the hall or spare bedroom.
It's a pain, I agree OP.

BazingaBaby · 24/01/2017 20:19

I dry mine in the bedroom, but then during the week it is just me and ds so no one else in my room to complain. Smile

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 24/01/2017 20:22

I dry mine in the bedroom as well. The rather bizarre irony being that we have sinks in all of our bedrooms. And sockets near them!

NennyNooNoo · 24/01/2017 20:24

Communal hair dryer on the landing.

Horsemad · 24/01/2017 20:25

My DH is usually asleep in our room too but that matters not, I just do it ! Grin

Boogers · 24/01/2017 20:25

Sinks don't generate the same amount of condensation that a hot shower or hot bath does.

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/01/2017 20:31

Bedroom. DP snores away and doesn't stir.

chloechloe · 24/01/2017 20:41

In the bathroom Grin, I live in Germany!

And when we had the bathroom fitted I got them to put the socket in the vanity drawer so I can leave it plugged in and shove the tangle of cable unseen into the drawer. Unfortunately my toddler has now discovered how to switch it on Shock

derwoodgirl · 24/01/2017 20:47

PacificDgwod - I completely agree with you!

Never understood UK bathroom regulations on electrics and proximity to water as the rest of Europe manages just fine.

The Germans even manage to have washer and dryers in their bathrooms (not separated by walls). Smile

ynkee0107 · 24/01/2017 21:05

Spare bedroom is the husbands study (read: video game room). If anything I think this thread has highlighted i spoil my husband too much! Thanks for the suggestions. Think when the bathroom gets done eventually I might have to have a plug installed outside the door in the hall.

Hairdryer lives in the bedroom except when I am on an early shift and I too, endure the joys of drying my hair in the kitchen!

I just can't envisage ever wanting to dry my hair in the bathroom though, it's damp and humid when I get out the shower, my hair would turn to frizzConfused

I dry mine in the hall, right by the front door. It's where I do my make up too as the light is just right there.
We do have a double plug socket right outside our en suite though.

PacificDogwod · 24/01/2017 21:30

If condensation is likely to somehow damage our electrics, we are all doomed! Grin

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 24/01/2017 21:30

The point about having a socket next to sink was about the water being a hazard not the condensation.

wobblywonderwoman · 24/01/2017 21:32

We have a walk in wardrobe and I have moved it around so that I can fit a narrow dressing table. But I shower and dry my hair at night as dh is alseep when I leave for work

SummerSazz · 24/01/2017 21:33

In my dressing room Grin

Thegiantofillinois · 24/01/2017 21:35

My bathroom would be too small, anyway. I do it on the landing, I. Front of a tilty mirror- kids can't hear the telly if I do it in the bedroom.Hmm

Fruitcocktail6 · 24/01/2017 21:37

Spare bedroom, which is actually my dressing room. my hair takes forever to dry and straighten so I tend to do it in the evening.

Iamastonished · 24/01/2017 21:38

"They also don't realise you may need to hoover the bathroom floor and the stairs and landings. I've seen many a five storey house without a single plug socket within easy reach of the stairs."

We have a double socket just outside our bathroom and I can vacuum the stairs and all of our upstairs rooms from just one socket.

I wouldn't want to dry my hair in the bathroom because the mirror would be too steamed up from the shower, and it is only a small mirror. DD and I just use the socket next to the full length mirror in our bedroom.

wowfudge · 24/01/2017 21:49

Bedroom. I do my make up at my dressing table. I think it's weird to stand in the steamed up bathroom doing my make up - especially when the bathroom is shared with others.

guest2013 · 24/01/2017 21:52

Bedroom. But I do it at night as my husband would be asleep too, just freshen it with curling tongs and dry shampoo.
I'd have to get up at 5am to wash and dry my hair in the morning.

Scrowy · 24/01/2017 21:57

There is an entire room in my house solely dedicated to my hair styling.

It's happened purely by accident rather than design Grin

JassyRadlett · 24/01/2017 22:02

Boogers, Australia has 3 prong plugs, 240 volts and power sockets in bathrooms.

The British regulations are way OTT, as I never tire of telling DH as he complains about my hair dryer in the bedroom. We are living in his country, he has to deal with the impact of its fear of electricity.
