Do you honestly care about what people think of your outfit?

I read someone post in an FB group that she won't purchase this certain jacket because there's a lot of fakes out there, and people won't think at first glance that her outfit is authentic. Just like there's so many fake LVs.

Which made me think because I don't really think about this, and certainly do not think other people actually wonder about what I am wearing.

Do people really care? Do you care about what other people think?

Nettle I judge people too, what I mean is I do care about how I look as I always want to look my best, and when I say I don't care what people think of how I look (previous post) I actually mean that I care what my friends think and people who know me and my style think but if it's someone I deem to have no clue about clothes or makeup then I don't give a damn what they think and actually find it complementary if they hate my outfit as they are so boring , so in this respect I am judgmental.I cannot abide someone who has no imagination for clothes or make up to judge me when I'm actually putting effort in.

BusterGonad · 24/01/2017 19:16

Oh and to answer the LV bag question, I think in reality you can tell if it is fake by looking at the person holding it! 😂

spankhurst · 24/01/2017 19:24

I cared much more when I was younger; one of the pleasures of being a bit older is that you acquire the confidence to generally not give a damn. I dress to please myself and I think I look nice most of the time. I don't notice labels on others.

museumum · 24/01/2017 19:26

I wouldn't think about a strangers LV bag. But an acquaintance - if they mainly wore primark clothes I'd wonder why they choose to spend the equivalent of years of my clothing budget on a bag!!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 24/01/2017 19:28

I care as much as have to look professional.

Apart from that, no.

Bags, I wouldn't wear a fake, because it's wrong.

BusterGonad · 24/01/2017 19:34

I wouldn't wear a fake because imo it's tacky, I wouldn't get a real one because I'd rather spend X amount on mid price dresses and buy loads of makeup and skincare with the money.

Madamfrog · 24/01/2017 20:05

I would never buy a fur coat, real or fake. However, it is very cold and dry where I live at the moment and so I have been wearing my grandmother's deliciously warm and comfortable below-calf length mink coat and hoping people think it is fake fur.

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/01/2017 20:14

Oh, I have a load of fake fur coats and jackets. I don't have any knockoff designer gear though.

ASeriesofFortunateEvents · 24/01/2017 20:16

Bluntness - the woman at the cinema was probably wishing you'd stop preening and get out of the way of the hand-dryer. Your description of her is unkind.

Kathmandu12 · 24/01/2017 20:25

Bluntness

Or maybe she was absent mindedly staring at you, thinking of things she needs to do. I sometimes do this.

Love clothes, and buy good clothes in sales mostly but surely, it's how you wear them? I wouldn't buy anything obviously branded and so, it's all about how a person looks in clothes and styles them.

neveradullmoment99 · 24/01/2017 20:48

I like nice clothes and like to look nice and make the most of myself. I have often pondered this question and I guess the way i sum it up is, when i make an effort I feel better about myself. I am not sure why I need too and when i am relaxing at home i deliberately make no real effort cause i like to just feel i am comfy for myself. Dressing nice i think makes me feel more confident. The thing is though, I don't really care what others wear but i do notice people who are quite put together and admire it. They just look like they care about themselves and I often admire what they are wearing or what they have combined. If people don't make an effort and just put clothes on without thinking what they wear, i dont care. Unless they stand out in a particular way - something lovely or something on that is awful [colour or shape] I really dont think about it. I could not tell you what some people wore to work today unless i really liked it.

Like PPs, I like to look "put together", I get my nails done every 3-4 weeks because I hate the sight of chipped nail polish, my make up is usually minimal looking, and I do like to look "nice". My best friend is exactly the same as me. I don't think I am as extreme anymore, but when I was at college I had a bit of a "thing" about not wearing an outfit to college more than once, I would try and change something be it the shoes/top/bottoms. I know the hundreds of people who happened to walk past me didn't care, but I some how did! Confused

I wouldn't care if someone thought my LV was fake, I know it's not, and anyone who knows me knows my stance on fakes! I do find myself judging people who buy fake designer handbags, especially painfully obvious fakes. I hate myself for doing it but with all the fake Michael Kors handbags floating about it just winds me up! Save up a little and buy the real thing! Imo it just looks tacky. The amount of fakes of a certain thing wouldn't put me off buying another LV or Michael Kors or whatever, that's just daft.

crazyspaniellady · 24/01/2017 22:43

and I would also like to say I have a "sixth sense" for fake handbags, it's a blessing and a curse, but I am very "passionate" about handbags

Kathmandu12 · 24/01/2017 23:17

Yeah. Sometimes I'm like that too - absentmindedly staring into something/someone - and when caught offguard, I get startled and embarrassed and instead of smiling, I tend to look away. :)

Aserious I think Bluntnesses description sounds spot on, I think the lady with zero fashion sense was either judging or totally jealous. Either way it was rude.

Floisme · 25/01/2017 07:40

God I love watching what people are wearing - it's how I get most of my ideas! At the moment I'm on 'ankle watch' to see how people manage to wear cropped trousers without freezing.

I don't see it as judging - I'm looking for things I like, not things I don't like and it's not as if I'm scoring out of ten! I only notice things I'm interested in so bags and nails go right over my head.

SnugglySnerd · 25/01/2017 07:59

I don't think I could spot a fake, or indeed a designer handbag even if it had a big neon sign pointing it out to me!
I think any clothes etc with branding on look tacky tbh plus my bags usually get trashed within a year so there's no way I'd buy an expensive one.

I think the best dressed people wear clothes that fit in colours that suit them. I am very much still learning this for myself. One of the most stylish people I know gets most of her clothes from charity shops. She lives in quite a smart area so her local charity shops probably have better quality stuff than mine but she always looks amazing.

BusterGonad · 25/01/2017 08:00

Floisme do not ever see someone in a hideous combo and wonder what the hell they were thinking! 😂

Trills · 25/01/2017 08:10

Of course I do to some extent, and I think that people who say they don't care at all are kidding themselves.

We care what others think of us.

What we are wearing makes up a large part of what they see.

What people see contributes to what they think.

Floisme · 25/01/2017 08:11

Well yeah, obviously I don't like everything I see Grin But I'm mostly looking out for ideas that I can nick for myself so anything else just gets filtered out. I don't really understand how you can like clothes and not notice what people wear!

Floisme · 25/01/2017 08:11

Sorry cross post - that was to Buster

myusernamewastaken · 25/01/2017 08:12

I don't like big obvious logos either....someone mentioned those MK bags..i think they are tacky fake or real...
