*Pores- no one fussed about open pores,in fact the only place you read about them was in a science paper at school.

*Cellulite- it was just 'dimply legs' if you were a bit fat, then suddenly magazines made it a 'thing!'

  • The right colour foundation- there were only about 3 shades back then and no one made a fuss if you had the wrong one as everyone didGrin

  • No one cared about the damage Sun In and lemon juice did to your hairShock

  • No one waxed their eye brows,we all went at them like crazy with a pair of tweezers!

  • 99% of people had pubes!

I was contemplating this around Tesco earlierGrin

Permed hair which you had to try with the diffuser attachment on your hairdryer. Not sure I have seen a diffuser in quite a while.

Fenjal bubble baths, my mums favourite, the smell of that bath would waft all through the house. Oh, and Moon Drops.

Pears soap and Lifebuoy, we all used bars of soap in those days, none of this shower gel. You could tell if dads birthday had just been or Christmas, as there would be Old Spice soap on a rope hanging in the shower. We used Body on Tap shampoo and Herbal Essence. Not in UK, not sure if you got these brands.

Still use soap, still use apricot kernel scrub!

We did show some leg in the winter - between mum jean cuff and argyle sock. I see that look is back again - I loved it.

I had my children in the 80s and one thing I've read about on here which I would never have worried about was my downstairs area and what the doctor/midwife would think. I don't think we did much about it then apart from the bits which might stick out of your swimming costume.

On the other hand, maternity clothes were shite, all voluminous dresses for DC 1&2 although by the time DD arrived in 88 I was sporting a Dash tracksuit or two Blush

Imperial Leather soap if you were "posh"!

Avon soap collections - three in a box, in the shape of ducks or bonnets or whatever Grin

Body Shop Raspberry Ripple Bathing Bubbles... ooh the smell, gorgeous!

I was totally in my prime in the 80s and one of my favourite things was my Cover Girl contouring set. It had a matte, darkish powder blusher and a lovely pink highlighter/blusher. I could layer them with the dark shade below and the pink one on top. They gave me cheekbones like Kate Jackson and when you added my Farrah Fawcett curly perm to that I was a Charlie's Angel.

I also had a tiny waist, smooth skin and a flat stomach. Did I appreciate them? If only.

Most of my beauty products came from the front of magazine!

228agreenend I had the Maggie Philben book. The only things I really remember from it where diagrams of how to cut your own hair (piece of sellotape across your fringe to act as a template for the scissors) an d that in the bit for boys at the back she reluctantly recommended that any boy with curly beard hair used depilatory cream on his face rather than shave, so he would avoid ingrowing hairs getting infected and slicing the resultant pus-filled face lumps open with a razor every morning. She did acknowledge that immac on the face would smell a bit though and fumes might sting your eyes a bit.

I remember creating my punky spikes with sugar water and a can of Insette spray, then spraying patterns on my 'do' with Streak 'n' Tips in pink and blue.

Foundation was Max Factor Pan Stick in Nouveau Beige (I never went for the pale and interesting look)

Rimmel used to do a big pot of bright white highlighter which was verrry shiny.

We smoked Sobrani Cocktail fags or More Menthol cos they looked cool Hmm

I genuinely didn't think you could shave off or trim your pubes. I don't know what I thought might happen if you did though. Then the nineties happened and getting a stranger to rip it out by the roots became a thing. I miss those simpler times when I never gave my lady garden a second thought Grin

Loving this thread. A good trip down memory lane.
I was blessed with (still am) with dark hair above my upper lip. I used Jolene facial hair bleach, it bloody stank.
I bloody ended up with a white tache. Which looked fucking marvellous with my olive skin. I was furious.
Nevermind, I dusted my shoulder pads off, spritzed my hair a bit more with Silvrikin, applied my Heather Shimmer and headed down to the Red Lion for half a lager and lime and a Silk Cut to make it all better.

I was a child of the Eighties...

There might be a few photos of me, taken on my 16th birthday - wearing mint green cotton trousers, matching jacket, and a frilly white blouse with a diamante brooch (the size of a dinner plate) pinned at the neck...eyeliner was electric blue, as was mascara...lippy was Twilight Teaser (for when you want to look like you're in early stages hyperthermia)...hair carefully crunched/scrunched dried with Vo5 Copper Tint mousse.

I look like a feckin Space Clown.

My boyfriend at the time was known to wear a powder blue shirt, tucked into baggy white cotton trews and co-ordinating powder blue slip on shoes - his fringe was carefully hair sprayed into a rigid flick.

He drove a white Fiesta XR2 with red/black sports strpes.

The horror...the horror...

Sunday it's really funny when you think back to the moment that you realize your pubes can actually be trimmed and that in actual fact you look a whole lot better when it doesn't look like your smuggling a family of spiders down your knickers! 😂

people were obsessed with cellulite in the 80s, well interested rather than obsessed. they sold that green and white plastic scrubber thing. i think you put a soap in it and used it in the shower

I was a child, but everyone loved my blonde curly hair.
I was busy from age 11 onwards trying to straighten it with my mum's iron until those crappy plastic straighteners first came on the scene - and did my hair more damage than my mum's clothes iron.

Now, nobody wants to see the curls. Nobody seems to want to line up for a spiral perm either! I remember when everyone wanted to look like the woman from Tpau and Kylie in Neighbours, haah!

As for foundation, because i was pale i never wore it as they all seemed to be orange or tan. I was finally able to locate a good match for my skin 2 yrs ago and i am 43 now.

They've certainly learned how to get us all to part with money to fix hitherto non existent beauty problems that play on our self esteem.
