Best face cream for 50+ year old

Wanted to treat myself to some good face cream in Boots today but was completely overwhelmed by the vast range of products. Can anyone suggest something suitable for a tired looking, mid-50s face? Happy to splurge but don't want to waste my money!

Is you skin dry, very dry, combination, greasy? Sensitive? etc.

Try a facial oil. I'm 50 and I'm hooked!

Estée Lauder revitalising supreme is excellent imo - v expensive though

I'm jumping on this thread as I'm coming into my 50th year this year (Nov) and my skin is looking and feeling dreadful at the moment.
It's dry, red and flaky on my forehead and red/patchy around my cheek area.
Of course, it would be lovely to be in a position to receive weekly facials/purchase some incredible skin care product, but sadly, I'm not that person, so I'll watch with interest!

I'm a recent convert to facial oils - rosehip oil has been a revelation.

And the Bodyshop's Oils for life facial oil is divine, if not cheap at £26.

My current oil is Aesop's Damascan Rose facial treatment. Not cheap but it makes my skin look plumper/smoother/softer instantly. So, so worth it!

I also think that my cleansing regime of Bioderma micellar water in the evening and Clarisonic in the morning is great. Highly recommend as super effective and super easy.

After years of expensive creams/oils I am a recent convert to Astral. Cheap as chips and my skin has never been better, It is very "rich" though so probably doesn't suit everyone.

I have sensitive skin and recommend Hope in a Jar, by Philosophy - got some as a gift and it is great.

Facial oils are lovely
Just depends on your budget and what suits you
Decleor do a good range and the in store counters are usually very helpful and will offer advice and often a facial where you pay say £25 but then this is redeemable against any purchase
Elemis pro collagen marine cream is also good. Very light but does moisturise well

I suffered badly with acne in my 20s and early 30s so slapping moisturiser on my face still goes against the grain a bit!

I don't have many wrinkles apart from around my eyes - probably a result of years of oily skin. I still get the occasional spot on my chin but the rest of my face is quite dry - not flaky dry but would feel tight if I didn't moisturise after washing.

I've been using No 7 but it seems to sit on my skin a bit. I don't like a shiny look so am not sure about oil - not on a morning anyway. Happy to slap anything on at night!

Oils sink in and do not leave skin shiny or oily

Isn't Astral the one Joanna Lumley swears she uses?

A good cleansing balm is also a starting point as this preps the skin for any moisturiser

Loreal cell renew is good.

I'm 50 and also a recent convert to Astral, cheap and lovely, has made a real difference to my dry skin. Would not recommend if you're at all spot prone but for dry skin it is wonderful. Takes a minute or 2 to sink in but then it gives a great base for make up (I only use tinted moisturiser) and it gives a lovely plumping and blurring effect. Try it, nothing to lose, if you don't like it, it's a great cleanser or body moisturiser.

I am a bit older than you, op, but I really rate Hylamide SubQ anti-age serum from Boots . It has significantly improved my skin . Even my dd has noticed, commenting that my skin looked fab and "dewy".
Take fish oil capsules too, they make a difference .

Do you use a moisturiser as well gonegrey?

Yes, I use Ren's Ultra Moisture Day cream as well (just around my eyes), and in the evening use a few drops of Trilogy Rosehip oil (bought in John Lewis). Together with the Hylamide SubQ serum, my skin looks really good for my age . No breakouts from these products either, sounds like we have similar skin . Finally mine is clear, very few lines or wrinkles, so the trials of having an oily skin have some benefits eventually. Don't be put off using a facial oil , the product gets absorbed well. Hope this is helpful to you .

I'm addicted to Neal's Yard Frankincense Nourishing cream. Have used it for about 3 years now and still love it. I can really see a difference if I don't use it.

I also use oils but only at night, usually the Frankincense or Rose oil

I'm 56 and my skin has gone from mega grease bomb to Egyptian mummy over the decades. It's always very sensitive though.

I've tried lots of things from Clarins (disappointing), No 7 (not fab on me), Clinique (nightmare), samples of Estee Lauder (itching and red).

I've now found a combination that really has sorted out the flaky patches at the side of my nose and the tightness everywhere else.

I cleanse (any old thing for sensitive skin), tone (same) and then use almond oil followed by L'Occitane Shea Butter (25%) moisturiser. My skin looks the best and healthiest it's looked for years. If your skin is just normally dry L'Occitane do a 5% Shea Butter one. The assistant thought I'd be best with that but I went with the industrial strength one and am glad I did. Oils definitely don't cause shine and greasiness on me. I can't use them on their own though as not moisturising enough for my Ancient Egyptian skin.

What's your budget?

I bought a tub of La Mer from my local House of Fraser and it's the best face cream I've ever used , I absolutely love it despite its price tag.I use that in the morning and at night after cleansing and toning I apply Clarins Blue Orchid face oil.

I'm 48 btw.

Another vote here for Estee Lauder revitalising supreme, it's so lush. My mum uses L'occitane immortelle and loves that.
Cheaper ones I like are No 7, Avene & some L'Oréal ones.

Boots no 7 protect and perfect. Fantastic results :)
