Damn these indestructible chin hairs!!

So on my chinny chin chin I have some hairs that are like WIRES. As they grow they cause a spot, a bump, a full on red lump, they are trapped, I cannot get them out, they end up raw, scabbed and scarred. Repeat every few weeks...

Been plucking them for years - they have not got the message.

Am successfully using a Phillips laser hair machine on other body areas where it's working a treat - just not on the chin.

I look absolutely awful - I've got three very obviously red lumps on my chin at the moment and they're even difficult to cover with make up as they are so lumpy and flaky.

Now I know that lasers work on hair where there is a contrast between the colour of the hair (needs to be dark) and the colour of the skin (needs to be light). The only thing is, these blessed chin hairs are white (Jesus, can the ageing process be any crueler?!).

I wonder if this is why its just having no effect.

I am wondering if electrolysis would be better. I did buy a Rio machine but the tweezer do-dahs are so thick that I can't grasp the hairs. The way the machine works is it's switched on first (with current flowing) then you grab the hair - so I'm dragging the tweezers all over my chin and electrolysising my skin in order to try and get hold of the hair - so it's all a bit of a mess and I just can't use it successfully.

If it was the case that salon electrolysis would work, I'd have to save up for it but at the moment I look a right state and can't go on like this.

Did anyone else persevere with laser for this and if so how long did it take to work?

Did anyone with white wiry chin hairs try salon electrolysis and if so did it work?

Oh, and before anyone suggests it, no type of exfoliation works - absolutely none. I get ingrown hairs all over my body and have wasted countless money on every possible type, and form of exfoliation known to man - it just doesn't work. I've got to kill the hair off at the root.

Thanks!

I have NEVER been so frustrated about being stuck at work having found a tough, wiry chin hair that I've made an excuse to dash home and get a pair of tweezers to pluck the critter. I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS Smile
I now keep 'chin tweezers' in my desk, bag and car.

Pollyanna9 · 20/01/2017 18:45

I need to get the mirror and tweezers combo going on I really do.

It's not just the hairs though is it it's the cycle of trauma that your skin goes through. I was sat in a waiting area in order to into a meeting a couple of days ago and I could feel under the skin that a wiry one was trying to get out. And there was a slightly flaky layer of skin over the top. I just HAD to peel that skin off before the meeting - oh the peril! - hoping I'd manage to get it between my nails and be able to yank it off, without it then tearing and causing bleeding. Phew, I did it but how annoying.

Oh to only have one hair at a time! I could grow a beard if I left them I'm sureBlush I pluck constantly just to stay on top of them. They're OK if they pop through cleanly but often they appear through a wee red bump. Hate itAngry

woodhill · 20/01/2017 19:05

Awful, I had some facial waxing recently. Yes I do pluck them as well.

girlandboy · 20/01/2017 19:39

Tweezers are my best friend. My chin is getting hairier and hairier as I get further into the menopause. Unfortunately most of them are now white and my daughter's Lumea doesn't touch them.

Has anyone found a depilatory cream that actually works? I tried the facial Immac one and it nicely dissolved the fine hairs but left the wiry fuckers completely untouched! So they stood out even more.

My daughter is also on standby for plucking/shaving duties should I become incapacitated!

I have PCOS and mine are Japanese knot weed

BinkyBuntyFintyCunty · 20/01/2017 20:34

If we all save these plucked bastard fucker super-strong hairs, I reckon we could start a business making fishing nets from them.
(A non MLM business obviously.)

I have waxing chin and neck once a fortnight with a fantastic cheap beautician opposite my office. She uses a combination of hot wax and strip wax. I don't think it's mega expensive as I buy a course. It takes 10 mins max. As far as ingrowing hairs exfoliate every second day and wipe over with "no bumps" fluid -available from Amazon.

QueenoftheAndals · 20/01/2017 20:46

Ok what are the best tweezers for tackling the little fuckers? The ones I've used were either too sharp and broke them off or were too bulky at the tip.

reader77 · 20/01/2017 20:48

Tweezerman

The satisfaction of yanking the buggers out.

It needs a new words, like sporn.

Ab1000 · 20/01/2017 20:51

Tweezerman definitely. Although I bought a fab curved pair in France which are great

lapsedorienteerer · 20/01/2017 20:53

Tweezerman are the way to go (plus a magnifying mirror), I've found they do go blunt but can be brought back to life with a knife sharpener!

Malermalergoni · 20/01/2017 20:58

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but taking regular saunas is brilliant for loosening ingrown bumpy hairs. In the Uk it can be a bit tricky to find a good sauna, but some leisure centres do have them, and some private gyms. It really is incredible how everything pops to the surface after a sauna... Seems to soften the skin and loosen the follicle.

Binky I think your business plan could have legs I really do. Let's maybe see if we can get on Dragon's Den yeah?

Japanese knot weed RT - I'm laughing but I bet it's bloody awful.

Yes, one must take care of one's tweezers. These are my ones: www.lookfantastic.com/tweezerman-classic-stainless-point-tweezer/10307577.html?affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&gclid=CjwKEAiA8JbEBRCz2szzhqrx7H8SJAC6FjXXNeUS6-Do4pWc_kYNDQePI2yahGekeoQW6zzg1teBtRoC_Ofw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CLf-gN6T2dECFdCD7QodoU0GUg

Very good for 'scratching' at the top of them when they're stuck and you need to make some kind of break in the stretched skin in order to get them out. Yes, you must maintain your tweezers and gently re-sharpen them periodically.

Ab100 - I could apply pure hydrochloric acid to my chin, it wouldn't stop the ingrown hairs it really wouldn't. If you're prone to them then that's it - no amount of scrubbing, buffing, peeling, heat, cold, devices will work. I've even used Sand Turtle nail files to take the skin off - even that doesn't work. Maybe some more low grade sandpaper is in order...

In the last several months I started taking a complex b vit and I don't know if it's linked but my unwanted facial hair has stopped.

TheNoodlesIncident · 23/01/2017 23:11

No chin hairs yet but I have a hairy mole on my jaw which needs clipping regularly, I usually shave it in the shower every day.

I remember once at work I realised I had missed it for a few days and the hairs were horrifyingly long. I didn't have tweezers so I had to use what I had - my work secateurs. Well, I was desperate.

They didn't cut either, they yanked those bastards out. I was Shock

Sorry OP, no suggestions except don't try to trim them with secateurs.

Will avoid all gardening implements although I'm looking with some longing at the neighbour's lawnmower....
