Damn these indestructible chin hairs!!

So on my chinny chin chin I have some hairs that are like WIRES. As they grow they cause a spot, a bump, a full on red lump, they are trapped, I cannot get them out, they end up raw, scabbed and scarred. Repeat every few weeks...

Been plucking them for years - they have not got the message.

Am successfully using a Phillips laser hair machine on other body areas where it's working a treat - just not on the chin.

I look absolutely awful - I've got three very obviously red lumps on my chin at the moment and they're even difficult to cover with make up as they are so lumpy and flaky.

Now I know that lasers work on hair where there is a contrast between the colour of the hair (needs to be dark) and the colour of the skin (needs to be light). The only thing is, these blessed chin hairs are white (Jesus, can the ageing process be any crueler?!).

I wonder if this is why its just having no effect.

I am wondering if electrolysis would be better. I did buy a Rio machine but the tweezer do-dahs are so thick that I can't grasp the hairs. The way the machine works is it's switched on first (with current flowing) then you grab the hair - so I'm dragging the tweezers all over my chin and electrolysising my skin in order to try and get hold of the hair - so it's all a bit of a mess and I just can't use it successfully.

If it was the case that salon electrolysis would work, I'd have to save up for it but at the moment I look a right state and can't go on like this.

Did anyone else persevere with laser for this and if so how long did it take to work?

Did anyone with white wiry chin hairs try salon electrolysis and if so did it work?

Oh, and before anyone suggests it, no type of exfoliation works - absolutely none. I get ingrown hairs all over my body and have wasted countless money on every possible type, and form of exfoliation known to man - it just doesn't work. I've got to kill the hair off at the root.

Thanks!

Yup, laser needs a contrast to work so light skin and dark hairs. If you go to a salon for laser and you even have fake tan on they won't do the treatment.

I use this every day. Works a treat. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01DANIPVE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Pollyanna9 · 03/01/2017 19:23

I knew at least two men I'd like to use that on Liiinoo (not specifically for hair removal mind, more for torture - the very painful kind).

I've bought some tweezermans for my purse in case I'm caught out.

Pollyanna9 · 10/01/2017 19:47

Yes, you don't want a rogue one catching you unawares!

Specially them super fine break off as soon as you touch them ones that seem to not be there but 3" long the day after!!!

It sounds like you have folicilitis, (sp?!) I have previously been on oxytetracycline for this, 6 month prescriptions at a time. Clears the skin and inflamed spots , you can then tweezers the bastards out or get threaded. Try your gp, my face goes from a red lumpy painful seeping mess to normal skin in under a fortnight, it's very effective.

Gazelda · 10/01/2017 21:21

What's the etiquette if you catch sight of one (or more) when glancing in the rear view mirror just as you're about to do the school drop off? Do you tweeze in full view of the school population, or do you brazen it out with your whiskers a-waving as you saunter towards the classroom?

I seem to have a matching pair either side of my chin. They grow, I tweeze, they grow the other side. And repeat.

And there's a bloody annoying one At that bit right under the chin where it meets neck, that is only apparent once or twice a week when no-where near epiliation supplies. Bastard.

stiffstink · 10/01/2017 21:40

I've been thinking about making a pact with someone I trust so that they are in charge of plucking duties in the unlikely event that I break both arms.

statetrooperstacey · 10/01/2017 21:45

You brazen obviously! I have tweezers and a magnifying mirror and a special end of the sofa where it gets the best light. I also have the spiteful stealthy ones that grow in between chin meets neck crease, my neighbour has a full beard it is easily 3 inches long and thick and coarse and wiry, I cannot take my eyes off it.

Pollyanna9 · 10/01/2017 21:52

I'm on the same schedule Gazelda - have you been peeping into my bathroom?!

Stiff I've already told my 14 yo DD that I expect her to come to the nursing home and extract them for me!

God, there are so many details - which tweezers, how close to the mirror, which mirror, which room, natural daylight or enhanced illumination?!

My only tip is to wiggle, not pull the hairs. Wiggle madly for hours which will loosen the little sods up enough to slip out.

Isn't it gratifying/horrifying to see how long they are under the skin.

DearTeddyRobinson · 11/01/2017 09:09

Ah my people. I've had the bastard dark ones for years but as I slide gently into my 40s, some white fuckers have appeared. They also seem to be growing more enthusiastically than ever so keeping on top of them is getting harder.
I have a particular bathroom mirror which magnifies and gets the daylight, so that plus the torch on my iPhone and my special tweezers usually takes care of them. But they are coming thick and fast these days (literally) and I'm getting more and more paranoid! The worst is when you can feel a bristle, I worry it with the tweezers till it goes all red then in all likelihood it breaks so I have to sit on my hands and wait for it to grow long enough to tweeze. The HORROR.

DearTeddyRobinson · 11/01/2017 09:14

Sorry no hints but just empathy Sad

reader77 · 13/01/2017 09:41

I have one stuck under the skin at the moment so it looks like a spot.

I catch myself gently stroking my chin in public sometimes, trying to catch the feckers. Then I realise what I'm doing and have to hastily stop. Blush

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/01/2017 10:51

I found an ingrowing hair on my cheek last week.

For chin hairs I use the bedside mirror and lean over with a mirror & tweezers.

A dermatologist on R4 said pulling hairs out restarts the growing phase 😞

Monkeybunkey · 13/01/2017 13:21

I'm guilty of that too!

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/01/2017 13:22

I've done that in the past! Blush

Pollyanna9 · 13/01/2017 17:04

I will look around me more in public and see if I can notice any other suffers silently stroking their chins lol!

I was sat at work today and I've got The Combination at the moment. You know, when there's a fair few just all happening to come through at the same time and they're quite soft ones, but in amongst them there's those wiry ones that you could rewire a plug with as well - urgh awful.

The descent into white hairs is really quite depressing. It'll be me foo foo next you watch, christ, is there no end to the decay.... I'm sure there was a range of vulval hair dyes at one point - should we get on this now, sourcing the products etc, because surely it's only a matter of time before those blighters renege on us as well?

Deathraystare · 13/01/2017 17:37

I tried the Nono out on my arms and that was fine but it damn well ignores the hairs on my chinny chin chin, I have a permanent shadow. Urgh!

Pollyanna9 · 13/01/2017 17:56

What the hell are these chin hairs made from?! I mean, they're like electrical copper wire for starters, but the bloody roots - if you superglued them into the root space they couldn't cling on with any more fervour! I have double ones as well - two hairs coming out of some of the same holes (round my nipples - oh, the shame!!). I even get bloody ingrown hairs there too!!!

OP posts:
snozzlemaid · 13/01/2017 18:04

Glad I'm not the only one losing the battle with these bastards. I struggle to find the right lighting at home but do pluck out the ones I can feel. They're so bloody thick though.
I feel content I've done a great job then I go into work and the bloody lighting in the toilets just shows all the buggers I've left behind. Then I'm self conscious all day and find myself covering my chin with my hand as much as I can.

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 13/01/2017 18:12

They're tenacious little fuckers aren't they!! Tweezermans, magnifying mirror and my phone torch is my toolkit ... most days :(

Imaac sorts my moustache out but doesn't melt the chin bastards!!

spinduffy · 14/01/2017 21:40

I pluck every day. I have told my husband that should I ever end up in hospital/ coma / incapable then he needs to pluck them. I'm being totally serious too as I hate them x

reader77 · 20/01/2017 17:56

I'm at work and I can feel two.

I have no tweezers with me. Wah!

BinkyBuntyFintyCunty · 20/01/2017 18:17

No advice, sorry, but I LOVE pulling these little feckers from my chin. Someone further up thread said how one day they'll be nothing and the next a massive big hair. I find this too. Definitely worse since menopause. I rub my hand daily over/under my chin and love the satisfaction of finding one of these tough wily hairs and yanking the bastard out with tweezers. Am verylucky that they don't ingrow or go red though. Almost as satisfying as removing a splinter.
