Is there some sort of face product that evens out irregularities in ton/e but that isn't foundation?

I think I might be looking for something that doesn't exist, unless someone more knowledgeable (ie, most people :)) can inform me otherwise.

I don't want a foundation or a primer I don't think - I do wear them (Bobby Brown) but I feel quite 'made up' in them and tend to wear only for going out. I've tried bb creams in the past but without much success. Same with tinted moisturizer or products like Clarins flash balm.

I think I'm looking for something very easy and quick to apply every day - so no faffing about spreading evenly or blending in, something that evens out my skin tone. I have it in my head that there used to be a product that you put on and it sort of acclimatised to your skin colour so you didn't need to worry about choosing the right colour - but I might have totally made that up!

Can anyone suggest anything please?

Hi girlies, sorry only just caught up on this, here is make up free pic, no foundation but I do have a little bit of fake tan on, honestly I swear by that Neostrata lotion, I started on the 15% Glycolic Acid & ive now moved on to the 20% strength. I'm 37 by the way ...

I used to have quite bad acne, lots of blackheads, I lived abroad in the sun for 10 years.

This cream has done wonders for my skin : )

Basically it just constantly renews your skin, Glycolic Acid is a natural exfoliant, but be warned it is very potent stuff, it's what a beautician would use for a chemical peel ( but in a higher concentration ) the lotion I recommended gives the same effect ( but using a smaller concentration over a longer period of time)

I also use microdermabrasion crystals once/ twice a week too... my skin is quite oily, I find that the microdermabrasion crystals ( bought from eBay ) shed all the dead skin so that the Glycolic Acid lotion soaks into new skin helping it work better .... honestly I tried every skin product there is & nothing works better than the Glycolic lotion, it also plumps up the skin too!

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser evens out my skin in a subtle way and gives a glow but never looks like foundation on me.

I now have the Effaclar BB Blur! I like the coverage and the evening-out aspect of it, but it's a little too matt for me - good for oil absorbtion, admittedly, but I prefer a bit of a glowier (sp?!) finish. I'll keep using it but maybe with a bit more highlighter than usual, and will try the Effaclar Duo Unifiant too.

I am a foundation-a -phobe, but seem to be getting on OK with Pixi flawless vitamin veil. It tones down my freckles and rosacea, and is light. It sort of dries to a thin/ invisable powder. I just put it on the bits of me that need it ( cheeks). It comes with a sponge applicator - but I just use my fingers. Its a bit more mat than I would choose, but my skin tends to shininess any way so that's no bad thing for me! I use the fair colour but it comes in medium and tanned as well. There is a small bag size available too. I think you are meant to use it under foundation - but I use it on its own ( with a light dusting of blusher only).

Oh Rosie - just seen your pictures, thank you so much. Your skin does look amazing. I wish I'd checked back last night because I went ahead and ordered a Neostrata product off Amazon! Can't remember which one now but don't think it was the 15% glycolic acid one.

The Erborian cream - yes, I've just been using my fingers to apply it. I thought it was doing a good job until something very strange happenened on Saturday - it sort of went funny on me in the rain and my friend thought my face was bleeding! I think that's probably more me than the cream though. Have worn it since but have avoided getting my face wet.

It's called Neostrata lotion plus -200ml ( it says it's a body lotion ) but I used it on my face for over a year & it worked fab, it's actually a bit more potent than the normal face stuff & that's why I used it on my face.
I always buy it from ' Life & Looks ' online store as it's the cheapest ..

Remember to build up your tolerance to this cream, use on a night time 2/3 times a week first, and try to exfoliate a couple of times a week too, that will help you get the best results. Oh and avoid eye area! Don't apply any harsh astringents / toners before applying this cream, its powerful stuff and it works best on bare clean skin.

You should notice more even toned, clearer & fresher looking skin after a couple of weeks, please report back progress : )
