What's your beauty resolution for 2017? Look groomed/expensive? Princessing?

Hello,

I have 4 stone to lose (see another thread!)

But my resolution for 2017 is to put into practice the advice on the princessing/look groomed/look expensive type threads.

In particular:
Keep up with skincare regime
Wear make up, perfume
Style hair instead of just leaving it to dry and then ponytail
Stick to natural fabrics in neutral shades with just a "pop" (hate that word!) of colour
Get enough sleep
Iron clothes and clean shoes!
Neutral/light pink nail polish

What are you aiming for in 2017?

Golden...I would also describe myself as a feminist and frankly my feminist self cringes about the fact that I want to lose weight for my wedding (for example).

I guess I've just accepted this is the one way in which I'm a 'bad feminist', none of us are perfect at anything after all!

Try cream eyeshadow to avoid the creasing...I can recommend the cream eyeshadow that Bobbi Brown does which comes in a few quite subtle colours. I wear a very light cream coloured one, doesn't really look like I'm wearing anything but opens up my eyes a treat.

LittleOyster · 26/12/2016 21:07

In 2016, I did the following:

  • Pretty much cut out refined sugar and, latterly, booze.
  • Wore makeup, perfume and jewellery almost everyday.
  • Began a proper skincare routine, inc. applying a stand-alone SPF daily.
  • Started getting my hair trimmed every eight weeks.

In 2017, I want to:

  • Avoid gluten and other grains.
  • Lose 1.5 stone, get fit and toned (will re-commence Slimming World, running and bodyweight exercises).
  • Dramatically improve hair condition.
  • Work out how to do eye makeup properly.
  • Iron clothes, polish shoes and lay them all out the night before.
  • Stop being so lazy about flossing.
  • Smile more. I have an extreme case of resting-bitch-face.... Angry

Good luck everyone! Smile

NoJimmyProtested · 26/12/2016 21:40

LittleO pleeeeeeeease tell us all about the amazing benefits of cutting out sugar? What has improved? How hard was it to do?

Also, no need to start flossing, I have done it for 20 bloody years (!!) until this year when after an in depth study, American dental experts announced that it actually doesnt do anything at all. I have stopped. My teeth feel exactly the same. Confused

AteRiri · 26/12/2016 21:42

Lose 50 pounds.
Dress up better. Put more effort.
Continue simple but working skincare regimen.

That's it really.

AteRiri · 26/12/2016 21:43

Oh, and use my water flosser regularly.

Nojimmy that is very interesting about flossing, it seems that interdental brushes are the way to go. I absolutely hate flossing, but always do it. I will switch to just interdental brushes and I do like a water pik.

minnymoobear · 27/12/2016 07:45

Better dental care!
Skin care regime of some sort
Laser hair removal - complete cycle on face
And go from size 16/18 to size 12 - joined gym again and doing park run on Saturdays from next week
Have ears syringed and do footner

Grumpbum · 27/12/2016 07:59

Sort hair out, growing out pixie cut and home colouring to have properly done on the 30th!
Stop buying clothes for the sake of it, walk away plan it into an outfit first.
Weight - lose 18lbs, going to cut out alcohol first then refined sugar and up protein.

KathyBeale · 27/12/2016 09:22

I am a massive feminist and feel I must add my opinions to this!

Firstly I am absolutely of the view that there is no such thing as a good feminist or a bad feminist. I am also of the view that being feminist doesn't mean you have to stop wearing make-up or nail varnish.

I can't quite describe the way I feel but in my opinion there is a world of difference between making yourself feel confident with nice clothes and a good haircut etc, and doing it because you have to (like the female staff at the Dorchester being forced to shave their legs). I realise there are arguments about society forcing us to look a certain way, and women are undoubtedly held to higher standards of personal grooming than men. I like getting dressed up and wearing make-up, but I'm equally comfortable slobbing about in scruffy jeans and no make-up. So basically what I'm trying to say is, wear nice stuff if you want!

Having said all that - I also hate the phrase 'princessing'!

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 27/12/2016 11:14

I want to start painting my toenails again. I used to always have them done, as nobody could see, but my dad found out and I stopped

Well as a feminist you could stop giving a fuck about any man's opinion on whether you should paint your toes!

Can I join too.

I had a bit of a style overhaul last year and went on a diet and dropped 3 stone.

I started wearing makeup and got a new shorter haircut but it didn't suit my hairstyle as I was having to spend far too long styling my hair so did the Amazon Brazilian blowdry treatment and had amazing hair for the first time in my life.

I had my braces off and had two implants in and whitening treatment so I finally have a full set of non gappy white teeth.

Then the depression kicked in and it's gone out the window. Gained well over a stone and stopped doing everything.

So my new plans are.

  • face care routine
  • make up
  • wear jewlerey
  • dental hygiene brush twice a day and actually use the water flosser.
  • go to the hairdresser more regularly
  • loose the stone I put on
  • treat myself to clothes that fit once I've lost the weight (not clothes that are 2 sizes too big)

Oh and buy a ladies electric razor and takkle my bear hair legs as a disposable won't touch the sides unless I use a 12 pack of blades

Golden I'm reading your posts like this - ShockHmm
If you want to shave your legs shave them, your armpits being hairy won't make a joy of difference to your legs?!
If your skin is so dry it's bleeding, bloody moisturise! Why would you do that to yourself?! What do you feel guilty for? What good comes from you having sore and bleeding legs?
If you like having your toes painted - paint them! They're your toes!

I can't get my head around your thinking atall
Without sounding like a massive twat (which I think I'm about to) - I think you'd probably benefit from some counselling more than anything?

In 2017 my plan is to -

  • get my hair cut more than once (seriously I managed it once in 2016 Blush )
  • get my teeth whitened
  • do something anythjng with my hair, it's either down or when it's greasy I stick it up in a messy bun, it's so boring!
  • get bras that fit!

That's all my goals - I'm realistic, I probably won't do half of them Blush

wizzywig · 27/12/2016 12:39

golden I too am a bit I dont what at the comment that you wouldn't use a moisturiser to make yr skin comfortable. I admit I know zilch about feminism. Is it not possible to be Miss World/ Universe and a rocket scientist/ the equivalent? Or have I gotten it all wrong?
I hadn't heard of the term princessing. Sounds very american. For me I just want the glow that being mentally in a good place gives you. A stones weight loss would be lovely too

How old are you Golden? Do you live with your parents?

Kateallison16 · 27/12/2016 13:38

Buy some home gym equiptment to use a couple of times a day. Knock this belly into shape.

Get my hair to the pure white shade I am after.

Use Plex hair treatments at least once a week so keep my bleached hair looking and feeling great.

Have decent hair extensions fitted in (Russian Hair maybe)

Take time every day to style my hair properly with big voluminous curls

Keep up good skin care and more regular anti aging creams.

Make use of all my lovely necklaces and earrings.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/12/2016 13:40

No plans actually Grin

1horatio · 27/12/2016 13:44

Princessing originated from the first thread which happened before Kate and Wills got married, so in prep for a wedding type of thing. It's not an anti feminist thing, or anything to do with feminism, religion, politics or brexit ;)

I think sometimes it's really difficult for people from different cultures and age groups to understand self care that other ages/cultures do. Ultimately we can all say do what you like it's your body/life but often social pressure or other does make things very hard.

We've just thrown out the second tranche of family and waiting for my father in law to leave, normality will soon resume.

NoCapes · 27/12/2016 14:34

Sorry Golden didn't mean to keep digging, I was just going to say that if you don't live with your parents and you're not allowed to show your legs anyway they'd never know if you moisturised them
Maybe just think about it

Thankyou, we're OK, or getting there at least SmileFlowers

I am going to:
-Keep editing down my wardrobe into just the items that fit me, flatter me & that I love.
-Find a brilliant hairdresser & maybe grow out my fringe.
-Keep going with my skincare routine.
-Try & get more sleep (I feel amazing on 8hrs but rarely manage more than 6).
-Keep going with my weight loss (2 more stone to go)
-Feel confident in August when I attend a friends wedding where my once gorgeous ex boyfriend will be in attendance (broke up 15 yrs ago & both since happily married & children but it was a messy messy break up and I cringe at thought of seeing him)

I think that's it?
