Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Turmeric is awesome (to be drunk as a tonic/tea Numi do a really lovely one or in your food) or mixee in veg juice. I like getting fresh stuff if I can and throw it in the slow juicer (usually with other orange veg and fruit, very boring that way). Also love matcha tea in a green juice, great antioxidant and loads of other benefits due to its high concentration of nutrients but usually drink a cup of it (traditionally whisked with bamboo whisk) too.

Is it the HA 2% + B5 one, Lorelai? Others have had drying issues with that on here and successfully sent it back to TO.

Wow just wow. Shittish week ever. Skin never better.

No longer pregnant, had to have a erpc on Friday sadly but means I can hit that stronger stuff TO. Can't talk too
Much or take sympathy as a bit raw so clasping at life's positives which in my case is my improved skin.

After about three years of tight flaky dry and Blemished skin I sought help from you lovelies .

I bought and have used for 10 days the LRP toleraine and Clinique THDO ! Wow. My skin is no longer sore post washing and the acne is clearing. I have mostly
Lost the fine lines and you were right my skin was dehydrated and not dry.

Off to find an oil this week to start Improving more but seems facial wash was stripping
My skin and not removing makeup like I assumed.

So oil suggestion? For combination/ slightly
Sensitive skin? Acne scarred and pigmentation issues? Oh and plummeting hormones post the above health shit.

Tia!

Stress so sorry FlowersFlowersFlowers
You just keep hanging on to the positive stuff. When I was very very sick I also derived a lot of pleasure from skin care, as silly as it sounds, but it really helped.
I think you would really like Clarins Lotus Oil. Just ask to try it plus a sample though from my experience it's cheaper on line. You can alternate that with rice oil like bo is doing and for the scaring introduce TO vit C in the AM and eventually their retinol 2% in PM.

Bo give the EL a try (one in the tube not the solid one in the pot). It has more coverage than YSL or those other pens but not super high and never creases on me. You can also build up or touch up in the evening. I use light medium.

bo Do you still have the space nk code please?

Report
botemp · 18/12/2016 18:18

Enid, have PMed you the code.

Stressville, my rule for oils tends to be don't spend too little, don't spend too much. Pay more for blends and/or organic active oils. Over £50 really is the oil addicts territory so avoid until you've sampled enough to know what your skin likes and doesn't like.

Have you ever tried rosehip oil? The Pai one is very good and it will help with the scarring a bit as well with balancing, skin tone, etc. It also is reasonably priced and you should be able to get a sample easily. The only thing I'm not a fan of with the Clarins is the presence of fragrance, it's very individual how we react to that so sample that before buying if you're interested in that.

Stressville, was just browsing on the Pai site and they have this Instant Radiance Duo special for Christmas which has a mini Rosehip oil and mini Kukui & Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator (A very gentle physical exfoliator, the only one I really rate but use very sparingly) for £14 (think UK shippins is free). Otherwise Naturismo will sell the sample sachet for the Pai oil and I think if you contact them directly they're also good with dispensing samples.

So have pretty much tried every concealer on my face (and popped some millia as a result Shock) but have narrowed it down to the Burberry Cashmere Concealer which is the perfect colour but seems to be sold out and unavailable online, I fear that specific colour has been discontinued already Sad and the Laura Mercier Candleglow Concealer (also bloody sold out) but I'd need 2 separate colours. Bloody hate my unique colouring right now and where's my fecking Stila Palette when I need it?

Stressville I've got an unopened full sized bottle of Pai rosehip oil if you want it? Just pm me your address, if you do, and I can pop it in the post on Wednesday. Xmas Smile

Just wondered if anyone had tried the Cure Aqua Gel ("best selling exfoliator in Japan!")? It sounds odd but clearly some people love it.

Report
botemp · 18/12/2016 20:20

Hmm, I've looked into the Cure Aqua Gel before but any chemist/cosmetic formulator/etc. tend to all write it off as nonsense. It is strangely very popular though.

Quoted from the comments section here:

The balls are formed as the water evaporates and the acrylates polymer comes out of solution. (Some products like this claim that the “balls” are actually the dead skin cells but that’s not true.) I suppose the balls could give some degree of exfoliation but I wonder if they’d work as well as particles specifically sized for that task.

Stress I agree with bo (obvs Xmas Wink). The Pai rosehip is also great and quite "glow enhancing". I have both that and the Clarins (and ehhmmm a few others). Go slowly with the Pai in the first few weeks as it is quite potent and some people have to built up a bit of "resilience" to it.

Poor bo I'm so sorry to hear about your concealer woes. But you reminded me of the lovely glowy Burberry foundation which I did sample once. It was really lovely!

Also agree with the consumption of nuts (and avocado) and turmeric (very therapeutic). All those oils and anti inflammatory foods are great for your system and guts and obviously for your skin.
What is the difference between a normal juicer and a slow one?

Report
botemp · 18/12/2016 21:03

In all honesty, the slow juicer propaganda will have you believe it is better at extracting nutrients because it's pressed rather than extracted, that it stays more vibrant with nutrients for longer, blablabla but the science of it says there's no difference in the end product. The main reason I went for a slow juicer is that it handles leafy vegetables and herbs (I actually add a lot of herbs to my juices) a lot better than a centrifugal juicer (where it just ends up in bits flying around the machine). I have a cheaper model that's a little bit more compact which means you do have to chop things a little smaller but it's not much effort in all honesty.

Yeah, I feel Burberry is one of those massively underrated brands simply because they don't court the vlogger/blogger community. Their foundations are lovely though (and fragrance free) and I've been meaning to look into them again for forever. The Cashmere foundation which is a bit higher coverage and semi-matte also looked lovely, it really is one of those no-makeup makeup brands. Their eyeshadows are lovely too (if barely there) and they have a lovely barely there blush too, earthy I think it's called. Basically if you're a fan of a lot of brown you'll like Burberry Beauty though they have some stunning vivid lippies. Think I'll pop in again sometime this week and try the slightly darker colour concealer and see if that'll work for me too and maybe some of the other bits and bobs. Thankfully I cleansed my face as soon as I got home and the millia are now gone again. Pretty sure it was the Sensai or Nyx that was to blame.

They were handing out some discount coupons in Douglas for their online shop, Aurora, in case you're in need of anything Grin. €5 off with a minimum €30 spend, code is 112CHNL

Yeah all those brown Burberry eyeshadows are pretty amazing though I've never really gotten around to buying one (they are also pretty expensive obvs) and I do use a lot of brown eyeshadows lately.
Thnx for the Douglas tip but I really don't need anything as you well know Xmas Wink besides my lost blush and that palette, of course. Xmas Grin

Evening all....struggling to keep up with thread a bit just now as in full-blown holiday prep mode with the added Christmas twist....
have at least, done my decants for travel, so, you know, at least the skincare is sorted, which is obviously the main thing!!! Grin
Miraculously also finding the time to plot my trip wish list re skincare, initial needs are:
Will be running out of SPF whilst there, so will finally make a decision on a replacement
am not taking serozinc as too big so will look for one of those nifty mini sizes that aurora has
Also in the market for a toner of some kind, don't know what
Have virtually no cotton wool, so will get some there (cheap but quality and lots of choice)
Need a travel size thermal water spray
Expect many, many reports back from the shelves....

And thnx for the juicer info. I'll look into it though I'm not really allowed raw veg (i told you I'm also a PITA, or like a friend of mine decided already many years ago - the princess and the pea Xmas Shock) so a bit pointless and we have a good liquidizer.

Forgot to say that for those trying to cut sugar nut butters (almond, hazelnut and my fav- cashew) can be a great help - a few teaspoons or spread on bread cracker or rice cake can help with the craving in the PM (when of course it's the hardest to be strong). If anyone is interested I also have a recipe for sugar free chocolate spread (not calorie free, sadly). Haven't made it in a while but used to make it for DC so I could have some myself Xmas Grin
