A grown up, put together look...am I chasing here?

22 tomorrow and feeling a bit down in the dumps about myself. Have a 14 month old so do look a bit weary and am super busy with one thing and another but just want to look put together and a bit more polished ! (And also quite a lot more grown up , sad I know).
I have my hair in a short pixie shape (a bit like Frankie from the Saturdays) and am a size 8 with smallish boobs- I'm looking for a nice mid range watch as I've heard accessories make or break an outfit , as well as super comfy black ankle boots for winter.
Want to get out of the rut of New Balance with jeans that slump around my bottom !!

Also don't really wear make up and want to get into that more Xmas Smile
Thanks

If I were in your position, no way would I be buying a Rolex. I'd be using it as a deposit.

Who says you need to buy where you are? Get a buy to let somewhere else.

I don't get this thread at all, sorry. You're young and slim with £10k+ to spend and....I don't know what it is you're asking. Sorry.

eurochick · 13/12/2016 09:04

This is a really odd thread!

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 09:04

I have enough for a big deposit but unless I could be certain about the rental gain (which would be paying the mortgage) I'd be a bit wary. My mum advised against it too (Cant remember all the reasons as it was January when I last discussed it ).
A real shame I can't move away from the SE to a more affordable area but there we go.

Really hit home this year that life is short and you just have to make yourself as happy as possible if you can ,

£120 boots will last much more than twice as long as £60 ones, and boots than were £200 but are in the sale will last longer still. My feet like Gabor, which isn't too dear but last for several years when re-heeled and re-soled regularly. Don't wear them on consecutive days, buy two pairs if you can find two pairs you like and alternate them.

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 09:09

I like the idea of 2 pairs which I alternate thanks!

That watch is a bit to shiny for me to be a nice classic watch, I'd go for something more subtle. And a GOOD pair of boots- honestly, good boots should last five years minimum if looked after and closer to ten. That is your entire twenties wearing these boots... start another thread for the boots with a budget of £2-300 and see what people think?

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 09:16

My partner wasn't too sure either at first but we both love it now , we were in there a while!

Rose gold isn't a classic colour, it's a bit of a trend and will look dated in a few years.

Watches on women make me think of prostitutes. Nothing against prostitutes, and I definitely don't think all women who wear watches are, it's just one of those instant associations for me.
Sorry watch wearers!

So if I was you I'd just spend a grand getting some new clothes and boots.

I'm young and frivolous but 10k on one item is stupid, unless your absolutely loaded. I'd rather go travelling when my child was a little older/do a masters/put towards a deposit.

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 09:35

Definitely not a prostitute ConfusedHmm

WTF? "Watches on women make me think of prostitutes"

irregularegular · 13/12/2016 09:43

"watches on women make me think of prostitutes". Eh? I've heard it all now.

All 40+ women I know wear a watch! And a lot of the younger ones too.

ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 13/12/2016 09:47

I'm not saying it's an entirely reasonable association.

It was from a conversation I had a few years ago, apparently escorts doing out calls always wear wristwatches so they can keep track of time with clients. And now it's stuck in my head!

No need to get all huffy.

hellsbells99 · 13/12/2016 09:54

Hi Op. I think rose gold will date - I would not buy that. They have lots of watches that look similar to that in Fossil for less a than £200! My sister has a lovely Cartier that she has had for years and never looks out of fashion. I have an Omega which I love.
Regarding boots, I like the leather ugg ones or fly ones.

Nineloves1 · 13/12/2016 09:56

Watches on women make me think of prostitutes. Hilarious!

I would be the frumpiest looking wannabe prostitute going if I hadn't misplaced my watch. (£30 from Next, to stop me checking the time on my phone and then falling on the internet and ignoring the baby. The statement it says about me is too tight arsed and practical to care what you think of my look.)

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 09:59

Xmas GrinXmas Grin I have some leather uggs as recommended to me on these boards !

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 13/12/2016 10:04

I'd spend less on the watch and more (much more on the boots) if you want to look well put together.

sleepwhenidie · 13/12/2016 10:11

Also Confused at the prostitute comment!

OP I think the watch aspect of the other thread was maybe looking 'expensive'? The trouble with the Rolex you like is that it is so out of kilter with how you describe the rest of your wardrobe that it will end up looking cheap too if that makes sense? I am 43 and have a very expensive wardrobe but wouldn't wear it, to me it's something a very glamorous and wealthy 70 year old would wear with her Chanel jacket (probably as one of several expensive watches she owns)! If you love it then it isn't up to anyone else of course but if you also have resale value in mind - which you are right about with Rolexes, it is a much more sensible financial investment than clothes! But due to the blingy/coloured aspect there's a risk it will date and not hold or increase value in the same way a classic datejust/oyster would.

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 10:16

I'm happy to spend a lot more on really nice clothes (which are still practical , does this even exist ). My DP wears his men's yacht master everyday with just normal polos and jeans etc but then he's a bloke soooo

OP posts:
Aderyn2016 · 13/12/2016 10:19

I'm not sure that more expensive boots = better quality. I have had some ankle boots from Clarks that I have worn virtually everyday for 2 years, bought in the sale and still going strong. I think you just have to look at things carefully, check zips, buy leather.
I like Jones the Bootmaker. They are having a sale at the moment I think. Have had some nice boots from there.

Now for the watch. I know you didn't ask for life advice but if you do want to one day buy a house, blowing 10k on a watch is not going to help you.
Personally I am not keen in chunky metal straps and diamonds. I don't think they 'go'. I would buy a chunky watch without the diamonds. I like the colour of the Rolex, but silver is a more classic colour. That said, if you are going to drop that kind of money on it, the most important thing is that you love it. Don't forget that you are also going to spend a lot of money on servicing it too. That does not come cheap.

sleepwhenidie · 13/12/2016 10:21

So your thread should really have been 'look at this watch I'm going to buy, I'm not interested in your opinions but please can you recommend me some boots?' ConfusedXmas Smile

WellErrr · 13/12/2016 10:48

sleep Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/12/2016 11:13

This thread is very odd - I wear a watch every minute of every day, even in the shower, and am definitely not a prostitute. Spending £10k on a Rolex is boggling my brain.

sleepwhenidie · 13/12/2016 11:54

But are you sure you're not a prostitute Judy Xmas Hmm?

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 11:55

Unless she got that exact information from either a client or a prositute then I think her ideas are unfounded Grin
