A grown up, put together look...am I chasing here?

22 tomorrow and feeling a bit down in the dumps about myself. Have a 14 month old so do look a bit weary and am super busy with one thing and another but just want to look put together and a bit more polished ! (And also quite a lot more grown up , sad I know).
I have my hair in a short pixie shape (a bit like Frankie from the Saturdays) and am a size 8 with smallish boobs- I'm looking for a nice mid range watch as I've heard accessories make or break an outfit , as well as super comfy black ankle boots for winter.
Want to get out of the rut of New Balance with jeans that slump around my bottom !!

Also don't really wear make up and want to get into that more Xmas Smile
Thanks

Be sure to insure your watch if you do buy it.

honkawonka · 12/12/2016 19:06

I just want something that I'll have for a long time which is really special , I've had a pretty dreadful year by all accounts and I'm wanting a little joy in my life!
Bought a car earlier this year to help me with learning to drive which has been beyond useful and a great investment.
In no position to buy in my area which I'm tied to (DS's dad is local to here so need to stay for contact purposes-south east).

In terms of boots need an ankle boot with a slight heel (chunky if poss) and probably in a black colour. Had some nice ones from dune but they were like suede and get dirty.

Rolex and £60 boots 🤗 - I do love end of term!

honkawonka · 12/12/2016 19:15

Aha if only!
No idea when the school even finish around here.

I'm saying that about boots as they will obviously not last a lifetime, nor will I sell them on if I'm in financial trouble.

Would be more helpful if people posted their favourite heeled boots of all budgets but there we go ... Hmm

Look at Clarks for boots, or pay a bit more & go for Russell & Bromley.

I'm not keen on that watch as I think it's a bit blingy looking with the diamond surround. I love Cartier watches. I have one that I don't often wear ( use a Fitbit now most of the time) but I will be able to wear it for years-love the signature sapphire cabochon on the winders)

You're very young but If you're feeling in a rut, 8d recommend getting your colours 'done'

honkawonka · 12/12/2016 19:27

I've got some Russell and Bromley loafers in black which are nice but too flimsy for everyday use (walk a lot of pavements)

I'm a bit Hmm too at the skimpy budget for boots and 'nor will I sell them on if I'm in financial trouble'
Wouldn't the first thing to go be a/the watch??

Anyways...I have a few pair of hudsons and a Fossil watch- which have lasted well

I have a few unworn pairs too if you're a size 5 and looking for a bargain Grin

🎉🎁🎂🎉🎁Forgot to wish you a happy birthday🎉🎁🎂🎉🎁

Hope you find something you like

ChishandFips33 · 13/12/2016 00:16

also curious about the car you bought

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 07:58

Thanks for the birthday wishes - sadly the car I bought was an unexciting Honda Jazz! And it was second hand before anyone accuses me of spending £££ on a new car.

I'd just love something really special

I don't know anyone who wears a watch any more apart from my dad.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 13/12/2016 08:20

Watch situation aside (I have no clue on decent watches and that's your choice anyway), Fairfax and Favor boots are amazing. I know you said ankle boots but their Reginas are gorgeous!

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 08:23

I'd also really like to stop having to hunt around in my bag for my phone for the time , or just have to have it in my hand at all times too so that'll be useful to have a watch. My grandparents both do , my DP and my mum do as well. I think it'd be a nice classic gift to myself.

Thanks for the boot suggestion, I don't wear heels (as in stilettos) anymore except for every day shoes

I mean I have met people who struggle to tell the time on a clock face as apposed to digital , doesn't mean watches should be phased out though.

sortthetacheoutbernard · 13/12/2016 08:40

Woah the price of that watch!?!!
Two rolexs is almost a deposit on a house for you and your 14 month old. I know where my priorities would be. Jeez

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 08:44

Not around here it isn't! If only it was I would be straight into a house deposit (although no mortgage as I'm not working at the moment).

If I were wanting a grown up put together look an expensive watch would not be top of my list (I'm not sure it would even be half way down). Good quality basics are far more important. Decent boots (which I doubt you would get for £60 unless you are lucky in the sales) a decent coat, some well fitting trousers and classic jumpers or cardigans.

I've got no problem with you wanting a Rolex at 22, but it has very little to do with a grown up, put together look.

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 08:48

I did read on another thread that a nice watch helped the "put together look" somewhat but maybe I'm wrong about that.
Ok no budget for clothes and footwear if we're going to be pedantic about it , I'll be in London on Boxing Day so ideally placed to get sales stuff presumably.

OP posts:
sortthetacheoutbernard · 13/12/2016 08:51

Put it towards a deposit and save for the rest.

That's an insane amount of money to spend on something frivolous for yourself when you've got dc. I am not normally one to frown on looking after yourself but when you've got dc your priority has to be to give them a good life and secure future.

Once you've covered that off, then knock yourself out with a rolex or whatever but I think you'll regret this .

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 08:55

Probably committing all of my money forever on DC then, as their financial needs never end (I haven't had anything paid for me in years but there we go).

niceupthedance · 13/12/2016 08:57

The Hermes Apple Watch looks lovely. I'd also go for some items from all saints along with your boots.

honkawonka · 13/12/2016 08:59

So I've had boots , and biker boots and various clothes from All Saints over the years but I don't find them terribly well made for the price actually.

I did get great customer service the other day from my local store which pleased me immensely as I've had less than perfect service over the years
