I've tried PawPaw cream, Clarins lip oil, vaseline, neutrogena stick thing and the flipping things are STILL dry. Is there anything that absolutely works for very dehydrated lips please? I can't use things like Carmex as I'm allergic to them. It's not a deficiency as my iron/thyroid are fine and I take multi vits and iron supplements from GP.
TIA

Ah x post, you're already using Sensodyne.

MopedManiac · 06/12/2016 23:29

Oh sorry OP - hope I didn't miss that by not reading the full thread Blush

If no shared ingredients with carmex then I'd go for blistex though it's quite 'tingly' feeling too from memory so may not be suitable for your sensitive skin...

Good luck x

8 hour cream here too (and it's also lovely on cuticles and nails if you can bear the individual aroma) it is fabulous for chapped lips.

I used to use Blisteze/Blistex and also use Burts Bees but I'm pretty sure the one I have has menthol in it (BB lipsalve).

Lansinoh lanolin n nipple cream. Slather it on at night and it'll soothe and heal your lips in a couple of days. It's by far the best thing I have ever used. I no longer get chapped and split lips every winter since discovering it. Not even slightly.

Also as pp have said, check your toothpaste, especially if it's a whitening one, they can cause dry lip problems. Perhaps carefully rinse your lips and pat dry after cleaning your teeth.

EnidButton · 06/12/2016 23:42

The main ingredients in 8 hour cream are petrolatum and lanolin. You'd get the same result by layering pure lanolin with Vaseline on top. Minus the salcylic acid which I can't imagine putting on sore lips tbh. But as Vaseline just creates a barrier and doesn't add moisture or oil, I'd definitely try lansinoh before the 8 hour cream.

PickAChew · 06/12/2016 23:44

Natural oils - yy to lanolin, otherwise simething veg based like lush ultrabalm or quantum super lysine coldstick (which is what I use exclusively, now, as I'm also coldsore prone and it really does chase them off - usually into my nose!)

FrustratedFrugal · 07/12/2016 04:37

I use Aquaphor for sore, cracked lips and a beeswax based lip balm (a cheap one from the natural store) for daily maintenance.

3luckystars · 07/12/2016 04:42

Are you using wipes to clean your face? If I use wipes, especially baby wipes, my lips peal off.

dailymaillazyjournos · 07/12/2016 10:23

3luckystarts nope, no wipes here. Have just made the connection between lips getting dryer and the new medication I'm taking for overactive bladder! They appear to be drying EVERYTHING up! Now I think on, they've definitely been worse since I started it about 3 weeks ago. I have ordered Aquaphor off Amazon on the basis it sounds very gentle. I think I have tried Lansinoh in the past actually and lanolips! I honestly think I have special, moisture repelling lips.

Pure Shea butter. L'Occitane do a tin of it or Body Shop do a big stick.

PerfumeAndCatsAndBooks · 07/12/2016 13:52

I feel your pain. I have been in tears last week as my lips are so bad at the moment (i have Sjogrens). I have cracks at the side of my mouth that hurt if I even smile a small amount. I am eating and drinking through a straw! And I've got a load of mouth ulcers too, so fed up

I tried Blistex two days ago and it does seem to be making a difference. I can recommend it.

I hope you find something that works for you. Definitely try the Blistex!

BagelGoesWalking · 07/12/2016 14:29

I knew there had been another thread about lip balm. Here it is, perhaps there are some other tips that will help

dailymaillazyjournos · 07/12/2016 14:45

Oooh thanks bagel. Will have a read.
