I'm 36.

My skin has always been greasy and spot prone so this has been my main concern. Zit zapping.

Never bothered wirh moisturiser (as skin so greasy anyaway), never worried about wrinkles (as didn't have any).

Toady in the mirror I realise I do have wrinkles, around my eyes, and a HUGE one between my eyes!!!

Skin looks a bit crepy and for the first time in my life a bit DRY!!

So what should I do?

I have been out toady and bought a moisturiser for combination skin.

Am thinking of getting the estee lauder night repair, is that any good?

Any other nigt creams?

Still prone to balckheads and spots so can't have anything very greasy.(Idon't look quite as bad as I sound)

I know I should have thouhgt about this 20yrs ago. but I didn't. That's me, everything last miute.

I think this is all exacerbated by finding a grey pube last night!!! I'm getting old

go to the clarins counter or another similar dn see what they recommend. Youdon't have to buy but they will give you an idea of what sort of product you need and then you can go cheaper/more expensive depending on your budget

SmileysPeople · 13/02/2007 15:34

Is clarins a good one to go for then?

I have ventured near these women in department stores before and have sniffly rejectd their salespitch dressed up as pseudo scientific claptrap.

But now I need them!!! I need to belive in their pseudo scientific claotracp, or I'm doomed!!!

Also considering botox or chemical peel (have no money and not told DH yet, but I'm neurotic and desparate today) anyone had these done?

yaddayah · 13/02/2007 15:38

clinique 3 step system has always done the business for me .. go to the counter (if the're not too scary looking)

Estee Lauder nightrepair is fab on my skin, but its fairly dry (my skin not nightrepair!)

Would have thought an eyecream would be more helpfull , must admit to having the wrinkle in between the eyes .. has softened due to massage and dabing with good old fashioned vaseline (my friend's a dermatolgist and she swears by it.. even use it as an emergency eyecream as well but can puff your eyes if you use to much

Botox .. much too scary for me.. chemical peels not brave enough

Its not too late

Clarins . i used after my skin was "perfect" if i need helo i'm back to clinique as it seems more "pseudo scientific claptrap"

yaddayah · 13/02/2007 15:41

icod .. what happened to your eye ???

SmileysPeople · 13/02/2007 15:41

I have tries clinique (tried a few just lazy and never persisted). I couldn't use their moisturiser though as skin too oily.

I'm serious about botox and chemical peel.

what was your eye whooha cod?

have used Boots Time Delay Microdermabrasion kit twice now and skin feels better, but doesn't look that fab yet.

have used Clinique in past, found it stung and was pretty horrid.

am going to get some Neal's Yard roseoil stuff, on recommendation of number of people here.

tried dh's frankincense cream last night - also Neal's Yard - but alarmingly it only had myrrh on the label, no frankincense

SmileysPeople · 13/02/2007 15:45

Yes.
You can now see why I'm panicking.

Anyone had laser treatment?

OP posts:
incy · 13/02/2007 15:53

They do sell mild peels over the counter which can be good to use - I used the lancome one after seeing it reviewed in the Saturday Times and I was impressed.

  1. LANCOME RESURFACE PEEL £95; available nationwide

CLAIMS TO Improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, as well as enhance the skin?s radiance.

HOW IT WORKS The peel contains glycolic acid to dissolve dead skin cells; the cream contains rose extract and shea butter to soothe the skin.

TESTER?S VERDICT ?The instructions were easy to follow. The peel dried quickly and, after I removed it with the towels provided and applied the final nurturing cream, my skin looked clearer and felt smoother.? 5/5

yaddayah · 13/02/2007 15:53

it takes your skin something like 21 days or a month to renew itself, so you really should try and stick with whatever you choose to do (gawd sorry i sound really school marmish there .. don;t mean too ) I'm sure oily skin does need some sort of moisturiser as you can have oily but dehydrated skin .. there are oil free moisturisers around .. neutogena do a clear skin range which i've heard is quite good.
Laser treatment , the only time i've seen it is on 10 years younger .. i think isn;t that where they burn off the top layer and you can't go out for a week without scaring small children ?? Sounds painfull and expensive, but heck if you want to do it .. go for it

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 15:56

go talk to them - they have all sorts of creams and lotions to fit your skin. estee lauder, lancome, they all ahve pretty much the smae stuff, although clinque is pretty harsh I think.

elimis is my new fav

yaddayah · 13/02/2007 15:58

just realised in original post you said you'd bought a moisuriser

Off to dip my face in chip fat

SmileysPeople · 13/02/2007 16:02

No yadda come back, I need schoolmarmish...this predicament is all my own silly fault.

pubes turn grey

I have never even given that any thought!!

yikes.... more wonderful stuff to look forward to !!!

SmileysPeople · 13/02/2007 16:09

I don't know I'm not that old yet!!

I have no grey hairs on my head, but one grey pubic hair and a grey eyelash. strange.

Also one pubic type hair on my otherwise blonde head. It's thick and wiry and a bit freakish.

Get thee to Debenhams/Boots (or similar skincare emporium)

Flail arms wildly in manner of demeted woman

Wail someone HELLLLLLPPPP MEEEEEEEE

If they don't call security (frankly I would) then see what they say.. some of the swanky ones have thermal cameras where they can assess skin damage.. thus causing you to spend several hundred pounds on there expensive cures

I really think you should go that route first (perhaps not with so much wailing and knashing of teeth) rather than the semi surgical route ..

School marm out (kids yelling.. not good for stress wrinkles)

SmileysPeople · 13/02/2007 16:12

Oh I'm happy to throw money at the problem.

Dh might not be.

I will have to explain the urgency..does he want a wrinkly wife??

Hello all,

I just love these threads. Perhaps I ought to start my own little beauty corner!

I'm a beauty and skin therapist so here goes:

Even if you have combination skin you should ALWAYS moisturise! The moisturiser you use will be milky and watery as opposed to someone with dry skin.

You should cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day. Not by slapping it on and dragging it all off with a bit of cotton wool, but by using your fingers (all of them) to gently massage the cleanser in an upwards motion over your face.

I absolutely and fundamentally do not agree with home microdermabrasion kits, skin peels are good and as incy mentioned, the Lancome is the best over the counter one available. Although a little pricey!

You should gently exfoliating your skin once a week to every 10 days as you have oily skin, as this will help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and help to regenerated cell production. This will also help remove blackheads.

Go for a lancome night cream, you can't beat them. I'm not so keen on their facial products, I prefer Estee Lauder or Lancome for over the counter. If you're feeling flush, go to a beauty salon who does Dermalogica treatments. You can't beat their skin care range.

In answer to botox - it's bloody brilliant. They should give it out on the NHS!

Went to boots yesterday and a lovely lady did my make up and gave me skincare advice. I have greay skin. She recommende the N07 sorbet moisturuser for ily skin. Has 'microsponges ' in it(?) to absorb excess oil. Not tried it yet, but will when i run out of what I 'v got.
Tried Clinique left my skin raw.
Lia Earle stuff is good as well.
