How do you display your perfumes?

At the moment, I store mine on my dressing table in front of their original boxes. But my collection is growing and so I need to think of an alternative solution - maybe a shelf or display unit?

Are at what appears to be average folks in the Perfume Shrine.

I wonder what Elena's opinion about herself is.

Arf even.

Did someone say vintage Dior? Grin

My boxed ones (FBs) are in a wicker basket, but kept resolutely in their bottles. My samples, decants and phials are in another box in the wicker basket. I was only thinking yesterday I need another solution.

Those who have a signature, can I ask what it is?

VintagePerfumista · 13/11/2016 11:12

Awww, Frugal, that old thread is fab. I think I spot you in an old (and beautifully scented) disguise Grin

Vintage, my signature is Fracas, half a spritz into the air. I don't wear it to very day it's too strong, it's not great on really hot days too. I've been wearing it since I was 16 and will probably never stop. I think all this talk of just having one perfume is foolish though. There are so many beautiful exquisite scents. Why limit yourself to just one?

VintagePerfumista · 13/11/2016 13:28

I have a very very small bottle (3 ml I think) of vintage Fracas. (I only acquired it because it came in a pair with what I have decided is one of my all time loves Vent Vert (vintage))

I need to retry Fracas, because it definitely wasn't, as they say, easy to love, on first sniff!

AlexaTwoAtT · 13/11/2016 14:30

How old is what people are calling "vintage" perfume? Surely it goes off and surely there must be bacteria swimming around in it?

VintagePerfumista · 13/11/2016 14:35

Not if they've been stored properly.

Technically, over 20 years old. Generally speaking, earlier formulations (ie most of them) Many reformulated perfumes smell nothing like the originals, for various reasons. (usually EU banning of certain ingredients) Take any of, say, the 80s big hitters (Obsession, Rive Gauche, Paris etc etc)- all changed over the years.

Classic staples like Chanel 5/19. All been reformulated.

VintagePerfumista · 13/11/2016 14:37

Top notes can "go off" as they are the most volatile.

I opened a bottle of vintage Diorissimo that I snagged on ebay the other day and the top notes have definitely "gone". It still settles down into perfect lily of the valley beauty later though.

Mine used to be in the bathroom cabinet but I was told it wasn't a good place because of the heat from having a bath/shower etc. So now they are on my dressing table on a vanity tray and I keep the really expensive ones in their boxes. I like having various scents to choose from because some of the ones I own are too heavy for the day or during summer.

Kel1234 · 13/11/2016 14:41

Mine are just on my dressing table, but the sun doesn't shine in the bedroom window because of how the house is.

coffeetasteslikeshit · 13/11/2016 14:58

I only have one - not because I'm particularly classy, more lazy, as in I found a perfume I liked at 17 and stuck with it. To be honest, I hate most perfumes that I smell, almost as much as I hate artificial smells from airfresheners, cleaning products and washing powder. I wonder if I have some sort of smell allergy?!

I keep it on a shelf in the bathroom.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/11/2016 15:02

In a drawer so they don't spoil.

hollinhurst84 · 13/11/2016 15:37

Mainly in their boxes on a shelf. Decants in a 4160 Tuesday's tin!

I keep mine in a drawer - by the way, I bloody love Angel!

Sticks chin in the air and walks away defiantly Grin

MaisieDotes · 13/11/2016 20:05

Sorry blue! I didn't mean to offend. I was just making a joke about the shape of the bottle and I got carried away!

dudsville · 13/11/2016 21:27

I like the shapes of the bottles and if I had a range I suppose I might like seeing them. As it is, I only wear one perfume. It goes on before I dress, along with my deodorant and therefore sits in a utility spot atop a dresser in the "dressing room" (large walk in space). So it's not a very elegant "display"!
