How do you display your perfumes?

At the moment, I store mine on my dressing table in front of their original boxes. But my collection is growing and so I need to think of an alternative solution - maybe a shelf or display unit?

I have never even thought of displaying them...

I agree that the bottles are often gorgeous but I keep them away from the light to make sure they last as long as poss. I love lots of perfumes but for the scent, not the bottle so I'm more interested in keeping the scent fresh than displaying them.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 12/11/2016 12:24

LOL at one scent being classy Grin

I'm pretty sure I don't need your advice on being classy.

PenguinsandPebbles · 12/11/2016 12:30

I'm extremely classy and I have five

I have lots to suit my mood :) DP eyes light up if he walks in and smells certain scents

I keep mine on my dresser but I will put them in my walkin wardrobe from now on I think I do love seeing those pretty bottles

DrScholl · 12/11/2016 12:32

oh god how naff - out on display
boxes too - eek

Bluntness100 · 12/11/2016 12:44

I use the one perfume, it's on my dressing table, which is out of sunlight and also because it's easy in the morning or when I'm getting ready to go out.

When I was in my early twenties before I moved to just having one scent at a time, I had them on display, but I agree it's a bit naff now. I moved to shoving them all in a cupboard, then chucked theml Who is it you are displaying them too? Just you? Because you like yo look at them? If that's the case then sure a shelf out of sunlight where you can personally look at them is the way to go.

As said, it's not my scene, they just collect dust, and often the perfume gets a bit old if you've got too many. But folks collect all sorts of stuff and like to look at it.

swimster01 · 12/11/2016 13:03

I display them for me!

My dressing table is in a dressing area, out of direct sunlight, and have never had a problem with perfumes deteriorating, although they are regularly used so probably not kept long enough for that to be an issue. My growing collection of samples are kept in a drawer though as they just aren't as nice to display.

Then just put a small shelf up somewhere.

mowglik · 12/11/2016 13:36

I love displaying mine most are in gorgeous bottles so why not. I've had some of them over 2 years and they still smell fine

I display some of them on a decorative glass plate surrounded by a string of pearls I never wear, some on a glass shelf in my bathroom and others on a glass shelf next to my wardrobe behind everyday jewellery which is displayed on vintage plates - looks stunning and they do double duty as scent and decoration

mowglik · 12/11/2016 13:36

Roll eyes drscholl

BishopBrennansArse · 12/11/2016 13:37

Yep I keep mine in a dark cupboard to stop them spoiling.

JanetStWalker · 12/11/2016 13:55

I have two large, stacked wicker boxes - roughly divided into spring/summer and autumn/winter, perfumes are stored in their boxes. I have a draw for decants (10mls) and a separate box for samples.

Pleb that I am, I have a lacquered tray on top of a dresser to display my Amouage/TF/Malle/Chanel Exclusifs, just because looking at them grouped together pleases me immensely.

The thought of limiting to myself to a 'signature scent' is depressing beyond belief and harks back to my grandmother's day when one sad little bottle of 'scent' was wheeled out for special occasions.

BeaLola · 12/11/2016 14:18

I do not have a dressing table much to my dismay as I quite fancy siiting down & doing my make up at one.

My perfumes are in the family bathroom as it has a large shelf all the way along one wall. I have grouped them on one side - a mixture of lovely bottles & a couple are in the boxes they came in (Chanel Gardenia) - they are easy to access and make a pretty display.

Yes I have a few because I wear perfume everyday & my DH buys me some, friends have bought for me or I have bought for myself. No plans to change it.

Doobigetta · 12/11/2016 14:40

I keep the empties on a shelf because they're pretty, and the full ones in a drawer so they don't spoil. And stick to one summer daytime scent (Armani Code), one winter (Laura Mercier Fresh Fig) one for evenings (Prada Infusion d'Iris) and Chanel no 5 for when I feel Chanelly. Don't know why anyone cares enough what other people do to sneer about it though, how bizarre.

Alexa you sound like a real joy. It's S&B on MN!!
Your posts reveal so much about you, and none of it pleasant.
Stick your 'signature scent' up your arse.

Florathefern · 12/11/2016 17:17

I only have two and a couple of the same ones in boxes as DH sees them as an easy gift to buy in airports I think. I keep them in the bathroom cabinet.?

AlexaTwoAtT · 12/11/2016 17:19

"DrScholl

How rude.

Florathefern · 12/11/2016 17:22

I just RTFT to see if I should store them elsewhere and this is a very weird thread indeed.

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/11/2016 18:01

I have about 30 perfumes, ranging from cheap (eg, Rive Gauche) to more niche (eg, Frederick Malle, Heeley) and keep them boxed on a shelf in an alcove. I think on Chanel 19 as my "signature scent" as I've worn it for years and have had numerous bottles, but I love fragrance and I love having choices.

FrustratedFrugal · 12/11/2016 18:13

I find the idea of a signature scent tired beyond words...

The Aqua Allegorias are fun light perfumes, but some of them are really just glorified body sprays. So if you are wedded to them for a lifetime, you are really missing out. And the most famous one of them is extremely divisive: because of inborn quirks in our olfactory system, many people perceive its sulphurous top note as cat wee Wink

Now that will leave a lasting impression Wink

TheDowagerCuntess · 12/11/2016 18:31

Alexa - you have been rude, so don't be surprised that people have responded rudely back.

I have a scent that I've been wearing since I was 21 (half my life time ago) that I was matched to by a perfumier. I always have a bottle of it on the go. But I love perfume and so have a rotation of others that come and go, some of which are repeated, and some of which aren't.

One perfume for the rest of your life? How dull!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 12/11/2016 18:40

One scent only? That is being classy. It suggests a level of discernment that those with a "collection" do not possess.

Bless!

Bertucci · 12/11/2016 18:45

Shoved in a drawer in the dressing room.

When I was a teen, I used to display them on my dressing table. My parents have kept my room like I just left (20 years ago) and they are still there!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 12/11/2016 18:46

To answer OP though, no I don't display as such because I worry they will turn in the sunlight, but the ones I use currently are on my dressing table.

The rest are kept in the basement.

OohhThatsMe · 12/11/2016 18:48

So many bottles and their packaging are so beautiful and well designed, it would be a shame to hide them. Some of the replies here are very odd.
