Help me with my packing list (weekend break)

2 night break in Edinburgh and need to travel light as I'll need to carry it all the first day.

Plan is Christmas market and sightseeing first afternoon/evening, walk up Arthur's Seat Saturday morning followed by a wander round the city. Dinner out (Whiski Rooms) then home next morning.

I'll wear a big parka and I know I want to wear my dark blue skinny jeans for the dinner.

What else can I should I take that I can mix and match?

Can I do Arthur's Seat in trainers?

Depends on how light you're prepared to go and how much you want to dress up in the evening.

I was going to say it was me I would wear skirt, opaques, nice top and warm jumper. I would wear sketchers sweet pea go walks (look like ballet pumps but built like trainers). I would carry wash kit, Spare top and changes of underwear.

But I don't know Edinburgh and having just googled Arthurs seat, I'd wear jeans and walking boots and carry an additional posh pair of shoes or shoe boots and a skirt. I would make sure the top goes with both jeans and the skirt.

I'm hoping to do Arthur's Seat in trainers but may need to do some googling to see if that's possible.

Flat ankle boots and skinny jeans for dinner with a "naice" top but need to work out what to do coat wise as I don't want to wear a parka to dinner but it'll be early december so I can't have an evening out coat less even as a hard geordie

You shouldn't need walking boots for Arthur's seat. Trainers will be fine. Jeans, trainers, and a parka is what I would wear for Arthur's seat, then something a little dresser with maybe a nice wool coat?

Would a coatigan/poncho type thing work for the evening? Just thinking it'd pack down a lot smaller.

Oh that's lovely! The Dome is gorgeous in December, but very very busy.

Do you mean you need to trek your bag around with you on the first day? There is left luggage at Waverley station, could you ditch it there?

We could, yes, we get in at 6pm and will head out to our hotel (outskirts of city) about 11pm. Is it pricey?

Edinburgh is bloody freezing, I wouldn't just have a coatigan! Skipping arthur's seat would make packing lighter!

I honestly can't remember - sorry - but if you could take one medium case for the two of you it might be worth it? (It will be pitch dark and v cold by 6pm so you might find you want to go to your hotel sooner than 11! How far out is it?)

I'd wear the parka. The coatigan would only be for the dinner on the second night.

We planned to wander round the Christmas market then pop into a pub for a few beers with one of dh's friends.

Are you coming by train? I'd get the tram to the hotel, ditch the bags, then come back in.

Remind me how much sightseeing time you have? I wouldn't bother with Brittania. To me the best thing in Edinburgh is walking through the old town - Mary Kings Close is good, and the Vaults tours. Walking down the Mile from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood is always fantastic.

The gallery of modern art is also a nice place to go

And Botanic Gardens, and Museum of Scotland on Chamber St
