You have 8 pairs of shoes. What are they?

Our shoe storage is ridiculous so I've decided to try and limit myself to one half of the shoe cabinet, which takes 8 pairs of winter shoes. Boots don't fit in there so I also have a pair of Clarks long black boots with a chunky heel, and a pair of brown biker boots ditto Clarks ditto chunky heel. I also have trainers (but they are muddy and not stylish at all so wear them only for running/exercise/Guides) and walking boots.

So if you could only have 8 pairs of shoes, what would they be? For weekends, work, and going out?

In my case I work in an office but not too formal, weekends mainly consist of running around after the DCs park/soft play/shops and going out is once in a blue moon and usually with mummy friends, and in winter mainly slightly nice dress with opaques and black boots anyway.

And I like fun shoes, unfortunately!

Waterproof sheepskin boots
Leather
Converse x2 (black and tan)
Sparkly converse
Teva chunky leather shoes
Chelsea boots ( tan)
Canvas Converse
Walking boots.
But that doesn't include exercise stuff...hmmm...I thought I wasn't a shoe person...

ThirdTurd · 13/10/2016 14:12

(1) Warm and waterproof snow boots for winter
(2) Brown ankle boots for autumn
(3) Trainer type of shoes, like Converse but I hate Converse. These have to be a bit funky (pattern or colour)
(4) Everyday, cheap dog walking shoes (£8 trainers from ASDA)
(5) Smart black flats
(6) Flats in another colour that can be dressed up or down. I'd go for red
(7) Black strappy sandals for holidays
(8) Peep toe sling back flats ideal for formal-ish stuff like graduations.

JamieVardysParty · 13/10/2016 14:13

I actually only have 10 pairs of shoes in total.

Tall Chestnut UGGs
Black biker boots
Black suede OTK boots
Oxblood Chelsea boots
Nike Air Force Ones
Nike gym trainers
Brown lace up brogues
Black pointy strappy flats
Navy loafers
Black Gandy thongs

ViolettaValery · 13/10/2016 14:18

Good thread! I probably have about 30 pairs of which I wear 8 regularly anyway Blush and they are:

Nude patent ballet pumps
Smart black patent ankle boots
Brown weekend ankle boots
Trainers for gym
Black smart heels
Tan heels
Gold sandals for summer
Interchangeable flip flops, generally get through 1/2 pairs a summer.

But tbh that's a bare minimum because there's nothing in there for weddings, dressing up etc - I have several pairs of dressy gold/white/red/purple etc heels for that. I probably have way too many multiples of those sorts of things and don't do enough regular updating or polishing of the staples.

drspouse · 13/10/2016 16:15

Oh dear, now you've all made me think that actually I don't have a black ankle boot shaped hole, in fact it's a nude flats shaped hole. Or champagne-ish? Patent?

What are the pros and cons of nude flats? I had a pair before and maybe I paired them with the wrong tights because they made me feel a bit old-lady-ish. What tights do you wear them with?

This has got me thinking. Work from home so no everyday need for smart.

  • two pairs long black boots (size 8 and heel hater so need to keep what I have)
  • two pairs ankle boots : one about to collapse and non repairable. Again, given limited choice I need to keep stock.
  • one pair walking boots
  • two pairs everyday trainers

That's it apart from older ones for decorating/garden.

I know that's ten, but just can't do 8.

Ox blood red brogues
Ox blood red loafers
Tan brogues
Tan loafers
Knee high brown leather water proof boots
Black brogues (hardly ever worn)
That's it for work. I have others for non work, such as red leather trainers, brown and black ankle boots. That's it!

ChippyMinton · 13/10/2016 19:56

I have:
Blue suede brogues
Oxblood leather brogues
Liberty print Superga
Black suede Chelsea boots
Black suede kitten heels
Uggs with chunky heel

I need to sub in some trainers for the Superga, trying to decide between Puma Classics, Stan Smiths or Gazelles, in red ❤

Pointy ankle boots for work
DMs
Birkenstocks
Ridiculous silver heels that I can't walk in
Brown smart-ish sandals that don't go with any of my clothes

Plus gym trainers, walking boots and two pairs of knee-high boots, one smart, one casual.

Ive got about 8 pairs.
Biker boots
Smarter lace up boots
Chelsea boots
Long flat boots
Higher heeled long boots (notice a theme)
Hobbs kitten heels

chocolatecheesecake · 13/10/2016 20:13

Tricky!

Leopard print slip on trainers
White trainers
Purple suede low heel ankle boots
Brown ankle flat boots
Black heeled ankle boots
Yellow loafers
Leopard loafers
Black ballerinas

But I would also like to include some high heels. As I only wear them in the office do they count? I hope not! Like you I'm ignoring the slippers, running trainers, garden crocs and wellies

usernumber007 · 13/10/2016 20:21

Ok so I currently own:
One pair Black ballet pumps
One pair of gold ballet pumps
Black court shoes
Ugg boots
Crocs flip flops

I did own some converse and trainers but never wore them so they are now in dd's possession. I'm struggling to think of another 3 pairs I would like to own. Maybe some Mary Janes, or brogues or smart winter boots.

MaryMarigold · 13/10/2016 20:26

Great question!

Nike Air Max
White converse
Suede ankle boots
Biker boots
Black courts
Silver courts
Leopard print ballet flats
Uggs

Easy!!

MaryMarigold · 13/10/2016 20:28

Oh no, forgot flip flops! I'll swap the biker boots for Havianas.

WipsGlitter · 13/10/2016 20:38

Black ankle boots
Black high boots
Adidas Stan Smith
Flat sandals
Bakery pumps
Black high heee
Asics trainers

This is my actual list of shoes I own.

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 13/10/2016 20:41

I actually only ever wear 3 pairs of shoes.

  1. Actual shoes
  2. Sandals
  3. Winter boots

I wear each seasonally. I also have a pair of black brogues but I never wear them as they aren't very comfortable. I'd probably wear them if I had a job interview or something (as my usual shoes are brown camper peu with red laces).

So I'd have to add to my shoe collection to get it to 8 pairs. But I hate shoe shopping and new shoes always hurt a lot (I have odd feet, small, wide at the toes, narrow at the heel and with high arches).

OhTheRoses · 13/10/2016 20:45

Black sensible lace ups
Black suede loafers
Navy leather loafers
Black smart heels
