Do you think there comes a point where jeans just don't work ?

I'm a size 10/12 sick to death of buying jeans in all shapes and sizes that don't do anything for me.
Am goi g to try leather leggings which frankly I'll be buried in at that price if they are keepers, but I think me and jeans are done

I miss Gap Long and Lean too! I want something that's got a medium to high waist, a slim leg and is made of thick rigid denim (anything stretchy just seems to emphasise my largish thighs!)

poppym12 · 12/10/2016 11:17

sorrel, some of the asos branded ones are proper denim but you have to search through and read all the blurb. The last ones I bought are really thick, 100% cotton. I love proper denim when it's been worn and washed a few hundred times.

Completely off-message, but Umberto Eco had this to say about jeans:

Loved that! Thanks so much for sharing! Not off topic at all.

Ages ago I read on MN that stretch jeans need to be really (lie down to get the zip done up) tight when you first put them on otherwise as the day goes on they bag and lose shape.

I found this works pretty well for me but it does make the logistics of trying jeans on in a fitting room a bit of a nightmare, now I tend to try the size larger on for fit and then actually take the next size down home, this only works for decent jeans though imo otherwise they are going to rip.

The jeans that I have on today were tight first thing and there was a bit of a dance in the bedroom to get into them but by about 11am they were fine.

Pisssssedofff · 12/10/2016 14:11

I've done that today too bird, the kids were pudding themselves laughing

I want jeans that look good on muscly legs! I'm a size 27 in uniqlo so not big but I look completely daft in skinnies. I need proper tough denim too.

mrssnodge · 12/10/2016 14:34

I'm not fussed on tough denim now-, so Asda jeggings are my best buy so far- got them in black, grey, dark and light denim- £12-£14 depending on the style- some have zipped pockets. some don't- quite high waisted, never go baggy, never fall down, skinny right to the ankle and super soft and comfy- available in two leg lengths, I get the short ones though I;m 5ft7, just on the angle with no bunching at the bottom. Totally recommend and so cheap!

SorrelForbes · 12/10/2016 14:45

Thank you poppym12, I'll take a look. I'm thinking of trying the Levi 712 as well. I just hate looking like a parsnip.

imelda3 · 12/10/2016 14:52

I wish they would bring back Levi Bold Curve

HubbleBubbles · 12/10/2016 15:00

I actually really like the M&S jeggings, I'm a 12 but I buy them in a 10. I like the fact they are neither low or high rise waist & they are properly skinny on my leg. Tempted to try Uniqlo now I've read this thread. I can't justify spending ££££ on jeans (save that for boots & bags Grin)

brodchengretchen · 12/10/2016 15:13

I think everyone is looking for that perfect pair of jeans that costs £5.
I never have, but I tried a pair of black NYDJ (in about 2 sizes smaller that I normally take according to the 'vanity' label), and would you believe it? Someone else's much, much nicer lower body was looking back at me in the mirror. Reader, I bought them. End of shopping trip as budget was gone, but one happy and comparatively pert looking behind later I don't regret it.

Just don't put them in a tumble dryer, it puckers the cloth.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/10/2016 16:29

I've just bought a pair of Topshop Jamie Real Authentic Denim jeans - they were £38, I think. They sit really nicely on my natural waist and so don't give me muffin top, and they are nearly skinny enough - they're slightly cropped and the edges stick out slightly around my ankle, but I'm 5'2" with very skinny ankles shame about the rest of me and I got the 30 inch leg, so if you were taller or had slightly less spindly ankles it would be properly skinny, I think. I should probably have got a shorter leg length but it was a Saturday and I was already annoyed by being unable to find most of the different washes in anything bigger than a 25 inch waist, so I wasn't going back to look for 28" leg.

IsItGinTimeYet · 12/10/2016 23:37

I once took 18 pairs of jeans into the changing room in Debenhams. DH had to help me carry them all but ONE pair fitted perfectly. I seriously need to build up the courage to do the same again soon but losing weight and reluctant until I am where I want to be.

DistanceCall · 12/10/2016 23:45

Esprit make really good high-waisted jeans AND jeggins/leggins/skinny-sort-of-things.

For example: www.esprit.co.uk/search?query=high%20waist

JanetStWalker · 12/10/2016 23:50

Cheapo jeans are so much better than they used to be mainly because of the huge variety of different cuts and rises and what have you, but also cause of all the inbetweeny sizes they do now. I'm a 27 in most places, which is the equivalent to a size 9, only the designers used to offer that. Most brands also offer different leg lengths now which for is an absolute boon.

I always find a pair or three by ASOS, their own brand jeans have saved me a bloody fortune!

Yakitori · 13/10/2016 11:51

My 77 year old mum just bought some boot cut stretch jeans which suit her very well.

I hate any clothes including jeans that don't have stretch in - I need them to fit me every day of the month.

Underparmummy · 13/10/2016 13:45

I was really hoping for some leather legging recommendations when I opened this thread!

CallarMorvern · 13/10/2016 13:55

I find I far easier to find jeans these days, and can't comprehend that lycra makes them go baggy. That's not been my experience at all. Would hate to go back to the days of stiff rigid jeans. Jeans are all I wear pretty much, my favourites are Sainsburys though they have just discontinued my best ones. I'm a tall 14/16, hate skinny jeans and only wear skinny kickflare.

ClaudetteWyms · 13/10/2016 14:05

Yes I opened this for leather leggings too, I really want some!

PterodactylToenails · 13/10/2016 14:31

I am fed up of my jeans going at the thighs. I am a size 10/12 and it doesn't matter if I buy expensive or cheaper end they always end up wearing inside the thigh?! My thighs are quite slim too so not sure why it happens.

CruCru · 13/10/2016 15:40

I don't have any leather leggings (to be honest, I am much too fat to make the commitment to them). However, I have seen both of these recommended elsewhere.

FlopIsMyParentingGuru · 13/10/2016 15:48

Another one saying Sainsburys jeans are surprisingly good. Only downside is that apparently if you are a size 8 then you don't need a short leg length Hmm

I'm currently wearing a pair of Boden ones which have Lycra in but haven't sagged too badly. But worth waiting for a discount code.

BennyTheBall · 13/10/2016 18:00

I bought the M&Sskinny jeggings the other week - about my 5th pair over the last 2 or 3 years.

What have they done to them? They look fine when you put them on, but after about an hour they slide downwards and look bloody awful.

I have the Hush leather leggings. Expensive but so worth it. They are ridiculously flattering.

P1nkP0ppy · 13/10/2016 18:06

My current favourite jeans are M&S £15 cheapy denims, so don't always assume expensive is best!
