The Perfect Dog Walking Boot For Winter - the search is on!

PacificDogwod · 21/09/2016 21:41

I need the following boots:

  • waterproof: this is Scotland. It may never stop raining again Hmm
  • comfortable: DHound likes to walk for miles and miles...
  • warm, but not too warm: I am refusing to buy winter AND summer boots
  • longlasting: I had Hunters, they have now sprung a leak over the uppers of both boots - I am NOT impressed!

I am prepared to invest, but need to be convinced that I am getting a good product for my moola.

So, Aigle? Muckboots?? Back to Hunter? Natural rubber? Neoprene? Leather??

Any recommendations much appreciated Thanks

Slim calves means I can only wear Le Chameau - have had mine nearly 4 years after three years of wearing out one pair of Hunters per winter. I use boot liners when its cold.

My Dubes have been through all sorts of conditions, and are still going strong.

Question for Dubarry wearers: I quite like the look of them but they look like they would be a bit clippy-cloppy, being all leather. Do they make a hard leather sound on the pavement or is the sole more rubbery than it looks?

Eastpoint · 24/09/2016 12:05

The sole is a quite hard-wearing rubber, no slapping sounds

Whatslovegottodo · 24/09/2016 12:12

Ariats here but have had Dublin river also.

needastrongone · 24/09/2016 13:57

I'm late to the party here as usual Smile.

Ariats. 100%

2 spaniels. 2 hours walking a day. 1 pony. Another hour a day. Then most weekends. More comfortable than any boots I have ever owned.

By accident I left them outside last week and it peed it down all night. They were dry inside...

I dub mine when I remember, but not as often as I ought.

Good luck.

Do Aigle boots have a style for fat muscly calves?

Bubble2bubble · 24/09/2016 17:26

The Parcours Vario have room for sportyfat calves Wink and still have space for tucking your jeans in.

BensonBunny · 24/09/2016 18:37

I have the Aigle with the outlast lining, supposed to be better for year round use than neoprene, I happily wear mine in the summer so I think it works! I'm slightly chunky of calf and appreciate the side vent for tucking trousers in. I did look at Dubarry and similar a few years ago but was concerned about the width of the boot and trousers. The walking boot type sole on the Aigle is also fantastic.

I'm looking for the perfect dog walking coat, need pockets with zips and waterproof but not too warm, with a hood...

We've moved onto coats. I'll put North Face out there but I've just got it so can't report on all four seasons but so far so good

Flatcoatfan · 24/09/2016 20:47

Just saw the North Face thread. Hope I'm not disappointed Hmm

Muddledupme · 24/09/2016 23:47

I love my Arita grassmere they are long waterproof and very comfy.

Difficultyear2015 · 25/09/2016 08:33

My ariats are amazing

Leather, goretex lined, comfort some. Perfect for staying dry, warm and comfy in winter.
And they look stylish too and hold up better than dubarrys

Difficultyear2015 · 25/09/2016 08:34

Coat wise I have a north face three in one with works perfectly all year round when I need it to.
I've had it years.

Nepotism · 25/09/2016 17:55

Neoprene lines Parcours, size down, thick socks def not needed. I have slim calves and the boots could do with being a bit narrower.

Another customer in shop was wearing them and said she had worn them daily for ten years. I found them on Amazon for £120. Most expensive piece of clothing I've ever had but worth it.

PacificDogwod · 30/09/2016 21:59

Well.

I am a very happy dog walker today - my Aigle Parcours 2 arrived and they are fab.
Was an eBay purchase, one careful previous owner which is fine by me (the tread of the sole is pristine) and v warm and comfy.
I love a bargain and my feet were warm and dry - I may never take them off!

Excellent news! Enjoy :)

KazSheep · 26/10/2016 14:50

I'm so envious of those who are loving the Aigle boots. I ordered the Parcours Iso hoping they'd keep me toasty warm this winter but when they arrived this morning they're ridiculously wide and I'm sending them back. So disappointed as they felt really comfortable.

ilovecherries · 26/10/2016 16:04

My brasher walking boots are 20 years old. Wouldn't risk hill walking in them, but they are still waterproof and used daily at lower level walks. I love them. And I'm outside Keswick, so a similar weather profile! Can't be doing with wellies.
