or is this actually fashionable?

www.next.co.uk/g5434s5#454851

Went to pick up some school uniform from a store yesterday and saw this Shock There were other equally hideous items too. Wolf fleeces next?

Everything's gone incredibly 90's fashion wise. That's not that bad though. I wouldn't wear it but I wouldn't be Confused if I saw it on someone.

I was left a Next catalogue a couple of weeks ago and the whole thing was batshit. No idea who did their styling but they were either stoned or couldn't be arsed and just threw things at the models.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 08/09/2016 20:39

I had a Next cardigan that looked almost identical to the one in the OP in 1989! Cost me a fortune back then ( when Next was expensive)

WasDat · 08/09/2016 20:46

I take your jacket OP and raise you this. What's going on Next?!

I had to take a picture to send it to my mum. She clearly remembers wearing something like this in the 70's. The feel of the fabric was nasty too.

Have Next completely lost it?
fiorentina · 08/09/2016 20:49

I think it's nice and it's pretty on trend.. I found a few good things online and had some sandals from there this summer that were very commented on. I used to hate it but am now on a much tighter budget!

Foamies · 08/09/2016 20:55

Next is worse than M&S.

There, I said it. I feel better now.

EddieStobbart · 08/09/2016 21:01

Whoo, did you mean this by any chance? Harry Enfield's wife's company - they've just started doing boys clothes and I got the catalogue yesterday. I didn't really look at but your description made it highly likely given the general £££!

Top Shop seems to be favouring a cut-away shoulder this season - is this a general thing at the moment? Or just a Top Shop thing?

MerlinsScarf · 08/09/2016 21:02

I think the Street Style line under the jumper kind of sums up the problem. They're trying to chuck around the sort of trends fashion bloggers might wear and fusing them with practical school run essentials.

(Ahem, I like their jeans and plain tops though)

WellErrr · 08/09/2016 21:05

I love it! I'm ordering it!

DinosaursRoar · 08/09/2016 21:06

WasDat - next do rather love a fake layered item, they had a top that was made to look like a t-shirt with a cardie on top, but just one top. They never let go of the "fake shirt under jumper" look when everyone else did. Who buys this stuff?!

I found some nice jimjams last time I was in there, but that's about it...

Lweji · 08/09/2016 21:15

I'm not in the UK, but I see them worn everywhere. Mostly in over 30s, even in over 50s. Or maybe that's when I notice them.

ILiveForNachos · 08/09/2016 21:16

I have this jumper and LOVE it. I was surprised it's next as its the most fashionable thing I've seen in there ever (I'm usually only in there for the baby clothes).

Like Monkey, I'm not old enough to have worn it first time round either though (just)....

KoalaDownUnder · 08/09/2016 21:17

I love it. Blush

I was coveting all the colourful silky (okay, polyester) bombers in Zara and TopShop on the weekend. Esp a black one with embroidered Chinese dragons and cherry blossoms.

Had to remind self that am 43 and would look like total try-hard. SadGrin

DinosaursRoar · 08/09/2016 21:18

Lots of "cold shoulder" tops around here, looks universally trashy.

minatiae · 08/09/2016 21:19

I like all of it and it's close to my personal style anyway.

PacificDogwod · 08/09/2016 21:20

Oh, the whole cold shoulder trend should just.... go away - so unnecessary.

Love a silk bomber jacket though - I coveted one last time round, never had one and feel the need for one coming on Grin

tictactoad · 08/09/2016 21:26

dd has lots of granny chic tops and now seems to be investing in early 90's reboots. I think it's a case of 70's and 80's seams having been mined to extinction and the 90's being ripe for plucking. I'm now just waiting for her to appear in a pair of mum jeans Grin

EmpressTomatoKetchup · 08/09/2016 21:29

koala Mary Berry wears silky bombers. She probably a teeny bit older than you.

MylaMimi · 08/09/2016 22:43

Cold shoulder, done right, can be very flattering! It looks trashy on anything tight or stretchy, but on a chiffon top or floaty dress it can definitely add an extra va va voom... Laura Whitmore for example has worn cold shoulder stuff to great effect. (in my opinion)

EddieStobbart · 08/09/2016 22:54

Going by my skim earlier, i don't think Laura Whitmore is currently designing for Top Shop...

MylaMimi · 08/09/2016 23:10

Eddie Ok, I think you're right! Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/09/2016 07:45

You can only really rock a granny chic jumper if there is no conceivable way you could actually be a granny.Smile

southeastastra · 09/09/2016 07:48

i have a sweatshirt like the one in the op but black with brownish flowers from French Connection, it's very nice! I also have a silk bomber jacket from them (2 years old) it was very different then so a bit peed everyone is wearing them now [

RockinHippy · 09/09/2016 08:02

DD is coveting a similar but better cut bomber from Pull & Bear atm, its on trend - & said above its a rehash of late 80s/early 90s styling

Next never get it right for me though, don't think they ever did

Floisme · 09/09/2016 09:19

There are some pretty extreme reactions here to a fairly inoffensive sweat shirt.

As for the 'second time around' cliche..... I'm going to sound like your great aunt Flo now but hey, that's me. There's nothing original in the shops and there wasn't anything in the 90s either (ok maybe lycra). Every look is recycled. The first time you notice it happening, you think 'no, can't do that again, yada, yada, yada.' The second time you try and find a way of wearing it differently. The third time you think, 'Fuckit, who makes these rules anyway?'

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 09/09/2016 10:55

I have bought a pair of the offensive embroidered trousers from Next that were linked up thread. I love them!
