Which watch do you have and do you think it's worth buying a decent one or not?

I took my watch into a jewellers yesterday who tell me it could cost ?155 to repair, they're sending it off for an estimate. If it does cost that much I'm not sure I'll pay it, I'm not mad keen on my watch anyway, have had it 7 years and have gone off it in that time.

So, what watch do you have? Can you post a picture?
Why do you have that one?
Do you think it's worth spending some money to get a decent one?
If so, which one?
If not, is there a cheaper one that you'd recommend?

TIA for all views. my old watch

Mine's a bit poncey tbh (second one down and with a plainer bracelet) but I've had it 14yrs. It's a rubbish timekeeper but that doesn't really matter nowadays as my eyesight is getting so bad I can't see the time without my specs anyway.

Bozza · 31/01/2007 14:32

I just wear cheapy ones and mix and match. I got two new ones (wasn't intended that way) for Christmas. So I have 4 on the go atm.

Oati · 31/01/2007 14:43

buy an inexpensive one and put the rest in your pension fund

expatinscotland · 31/01/2007 14:44

None.

I've never owned one in my life.

I'm not a watch person.

HEIFER · 31/01/2007 15:51

I've got this one (difference colour face) - which was bought for me when I left my office in Oxford..

It cost £100 which is far more than I had ever spend on a watch before...

this one

Love it, wear it every day and I still thinks it looks smart enough for evening wear...

tirnanog · 31/01/2007 15:54

I don't have one,and like being 'watchless'.

NorksBride · 31/01/2007 16:20

I have a Dunhill baby facet which is tough, understated yet quite elegant and I would buy another one. Just realised it must be nearly 8 years old,

paulaplumpbottom · 31/01/2007 16:25

My DH bought me a rolex as a push present. I thought it was tacky at first and wouldn't wear it but it has grown on me and now I wear it all the time. It keeps excellent time and looks understated. Its not gold or anything. I do feel the need for a good watch as I hate being late for anything and life is hectic. I would only go without a watch if I was out for the evening or at a wedding, or something similar.

breadgirl · 31/01/2007 16:32

I have two Gucci watches. One was more expensive, metal type, that dh bought me 9 years ago.
The other i got 12 years ago and i still wear most days. It's simple, understated and elegant, although i need to change the leather strap now.
I think it's worth buying a decent one

WideWebWitch · 31/01/2007 16:45

ha ha Oati, well, quite!

Interesting looking at people's watches.

I don't have a watch either. I just use my mobile phone display if I want to know the time.

mosschops30 · 31/01/2007 16:50

this is mine here

i love swatch because they have a two year guarantee, mine normally break within the two years due to heavy wear not crap product and then I just get a new one. Think this was £32 which is quite reasonable

Tutter · 31/01/2007 16:51

i have a tag heuer but it sits in a drawer getting scratched because i don't like wearing watches

spykid · 31/01/2007 16:55

I have this one. 'cristallized with swarovksi'.

lOVE it

roseylea · 31/01/2007 17:01

Longines. Had it about 10 years and still looks brand new and lovely. Only upkeep is batteries. Boring Accurist for "jobs" and a Swatch for beach/pool. I love my watch - it's the first one I've worn regularly.

gingermonkey · 01/02/2007 15:01

Rolex datejust with a copper face and stainless steel strap. It's very lovely, I don't need to wind it or replace batteries and it will last forever (and then when I'm old DD can have it!).

berrycherry · 01/02/2007 15:13

GM, I have a Rolex Oyster Perperual, I have had it for 10 years, lovely watch etc etc, but ROLEX watches do not keep very good time!!! On saying that I would not be without it

expatinscotland · 01/02/2007 15:14

My lotto fantasy watch is a Cartier stainless steel tank watch.

suedonim · 01/02/2007 15:50

I'm glad other Rolex owners have come out of the closet! Mine is dreadful at keeping time, Berry, though dh's in better. Mine has been repaired/cleaned/serviced several times in 12 yrs (sooooo expensive ) but dh's has never been done.

breadgirl · 01/02/2007 17:01

Few years ago my dad got out an old watch and told us should he pay the £70 to get it fixed. Thought that was expensive till we had a look and it was a Rolex .. he'd had it before i was born! I told him he should get it fixed.

Jessajam · 01/02/2007 17:03

My watch was purchased from Lidl...less than a fiver...suspect I can't really bring anything useful to this discussion

futurity · 01/02/2007 17:20

mosschops30: I have that exact watch and it has just broken. I didn't think anything of it but just read your message about the guarantee and so phoned up Swatch and they said to post the watch to them and they will either mend it or (more likely) replace it! So thanks for your post as I would never of even thought of doing that!
